TRAGIC: Tiger Killed & Dismembered A 72-Years-Old Zookeeper In Italy.

Mauro Lagiard, a 72-years-old elderly zookeeper was ripped to pieces and eaten by his own tigers when he went to feed them. He was attacked from behind when he entered the enclosure at a closed down zoo near Turin in northern Italy.
In a horrific scene he was dragged 100ft while his wife watched helplessly, the remain of his dismembered body was later found after the Tigers were satisfied.
Mr Lagiard and his wife had cared for the Tigers since the small animal sanctuary was closed down in 2010 at the peak of the economic crisis.
The couple lived on site near the tigers' enclosure in a camper van. The retired zoo keeper was 'utterly fearless' and devoted to the animals according to reports in the Italian media. On Tuesday night, he went in to the cage to feed them chicken meatballs but the alpha-male Tiger, named Samir, who was in for a kill quickly followed by two others in the pack attacked him from behind while five recently born cubs watched hungrily from the sidelines.
The elderly keeper was dragged through the dirt to a clearing and torn to pieces. The wife called in medics when she heard his desperate screams but he was dead before help arrived.
Tigers rest in their enclosure at the private park in Pinerolo, Turin, where Mauro Lagiard was attacked. His 73-year-old wife who walks with the help of two walking-sticks, was powerless to come to her husband's aid and could only watch in agony from outside the cage.
Even after the ambulance arrived it was half an hour before the medics could get close to him. The tiger that attacked first was the one he loved the most, according to reports, even though the same animal had attacked him before two years ago causing him to spend eight months in hospital. At the time the faithful owner blamed himself, saying he was wearing aftershave which had confused the animal. It was a miracle' that he had survived, he said.
Even yesterday Mrs Lagiard still refused to blame the tigers, telling reporters: 'My husband and Samir did not get on. If I had gone it would never have happened.'But neighbors said the animals were malnourished and aggressive. They were fed just twice a week.
The couple had always been big cat lovers and originally kept both tigers and leopards at a villa outside Turin where they had a big garden. After problems with neighbors they were evicted and the cats were almost put down. But at the last minute the owner of an animal sanctuary called the Martinat Oasis came to their rescue offering them space at his park.
'My husband and Samir did not get on. If I had gone it would never have happened' - Carla Lagiard, Mauro's wife said.
The tourists would be able to see the tigers but the couple had to take care of their maintenance themselves, he said.
George Martinat said that he had taken them in because he had sympathised with their plight. He told Italian newspaper la Stampa: 'They said that the animals were their lives. 'Even though they were elderly and physically debilitated, I did not want to be responsible for separating them from their animals.'
A keeper who had worked at the animal sanctuary said Mr Lagiard was 'very sure of himself.'  He told the newspaper la Repubblica: 'He never took any precautions. He went in, he gave them their food and he left. He had no fear, even though in the past he had been attacked by the same tigers.'
Then in 2010 mounting bills and dwindling numbers of visitors forced the closure of the zoo.
New homes were found for the animals. The only ones to stay were the tigers, as well as one old leopard, now 24 years old. Mauro Lagiard was attacked as he entered the enclosure at a closed-down zoo, near Turin, in northern Italy. The couple had continued to care for them with love and a few families continued to trickle up the hill to see the big cats.
But local residents and animal activists were concerned by the keepers' advancing age and the aggressive nature of the tigers, who appeared skinny and malnourished. After the first attack on Mr Lagiard two years ago many believed the animals were dangerous. A few months ago five tiger cubs were born bringing the total number of tigers to feed to ten.
Finally, last week Mr Lagiard was asked to meet the mayor but the council was struggling to find a suitable home for the animals. They are currently in the care of vets while their fate is decided. Samir is likely to be put down, according to reports.

Egyptians Sack Bad Government: Are Nigerians Watching?

Posted: 04 Jul 2013 05:41 AM PDT

A Tunisian street trader who was in debt and tried to keep his small business afloat, set himself on fire on December 17, 2010, in protest at the repeated confiscation of his goods. This singular act by this frustrated lad was the catalyst that sparked street demonstrations which saw the Tunisian people turn out to protest against President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.

Tunisians rallied against unemployment, corruption and lack of freedom of speech and they remained on the streets protesting. This is despite clashes with the police and military...

Boy did they win! Well on the 14th of January, Tunisians proved right the saying, Vox Populi, Vox Dei, when president Ben Ali resigned after 23 years in power.

He is now wanted by Interpol.
On January 25th 2011, it was the turn of the Egyptians. These people demanded the outright resignation of President Hosni Mubarak. This particular protest was largely peaceful as thousands gathered at Tahir square in Cairo and remained there through attempts by the Government to move them.

The people of Egypt wanted freedom, elections as well as jobs, and on February 11, President Hosni Mubarak resigned after 30 year of running (or is it ruining?) his country.

Today it's Algeria. You know this is a country with a history of civil unrest.

In January this year, there were protest on the streets against high food prices and high unemployment. The government moved against this protest by lowering food prices.
Poverty is still a major problem as corruption as well as poor living conditions in Algeria. Know how Algerians took to the streets in protest?

Algerians defied the law against public demonstrations which is in place due to the country continually being in state of emergency and gathered in May 1 square in Algiers. There is no disputing what the outcome would be. They would not rest until they win. Wonderful, never say die spirit!

There is an uprising in North Africa! They have awoken!

When will we? You know i just sit and wonder why exactly these people have decided to revolt. What suffering they are going through that we have not gone through here in Nigeria a hundred times. They have now realized that they can shape their destiny..and they grabbed it!

Are we ever going to wake up to this reality in Nigeria?

Recently on my Facebook status I asked how many people would come out if there was to be a protest today, and I was amazed at the responses. Most people said they would not move an inch out of their houses.

The truth is Nigerians have really had it up to 'here'.This is a country where much abound and we live in penury. Nothing (in the real sense of it) works .

We have seen it all. In fact we are the best-best at taking shit, and of course shoving it down out throats. Plus, you know what? Our leaders do not even care what we feel or think. After all we all enjoy the way they treat us, or don't we?

Over one hundred and fifty million Nigerians being molested by less than a hundred thousand few and we do not even have the nerve to say NO MORE? chaaaaii! We are actually double the population of Egypt.

A country that has been languishing for decades. A country where thousands die by the day via road accidents and one man smiles to the bank with money meant for road repairs.

Ask a Nigerian and he tells you "leave them, na God go judge them"...hmmm.

A country that makes so much via crude oil, and her people wallow in abject povery. Housing is a mess. Joblessness grow by the day!

Should a country like ours still be talking about lack of power at this time when it is just a normal thing to most of our neighbours? Ask an average Nigerian and he tells you"e go better"..funny!

Even if the whole of Africa protests and revolt over the injustice meted out on them by their leaders, Nigerians, the citizens of the so called giant of Africa would not! Any time a few start to protest over, say workers' salary, most of the people start to beg the protesters to back down. Can you beat that? You get to hear disgusting words like "e don do now, no be ordinary salary? "Salary? Ordinary?..We need healing!" leave them, na only God go punish them"..Ever heard the voice of the people being the voice of God?

You know Fela was spot on when he sang that song about nobody wanting to die (for their rights). Is this how we intend to leave Nigeria ?Would our generations to come live this same way? Egypt, Tunisia and recently Algeria have all moved drastically to secure the future of their generations to come. Against all odds. Do you know that it's a taboo to protest in the Arab world? Well, these people did, because they could not take the injustice anymore.

For how long are we going to remain like this? These guys (our leaders) are actually living in paradise at our expense. Their children do not school here. They do not use the hospitals here, neither do they use our roads frequently.

How long more are our graduates going to roam the streets for jobs?

The three hundred or so people that died during this course in Egypt did not die in vain. They are heroes. Something's got to give!

Do you, yes you, want to (or think you can) live forever? How could we be so self centered and not think about our unborn generation?

As a child I shouted 'up Nepa". I still do after 29 years! Haba! E neva do???

I hope we all come to realize that we actually can change our country. We can make masquerades posing as leaders do our wish. We can have constant power supply, potable water, good roads, education, as well as employment and all the good things of life, IF we want.

I just hope we do not wake up late.

BBA House Mate to Be Sued for Having Sex In Public [Photo]

A number of Ethiopian lawyers are set to sue BBA The Chase Housemate, Betty Aberra, for having sex in public just three days after she entered the house with fellow Housemate, Bolt from Sierre Leon.

Unfortunately, she has been evicted from the show and back home to face the shame...
The lawsuit is not the only thing Betty is facing since leaving the Big Brother House, I hear she is also facing nationwide condemnation from groups who have asked the media and companies to boycott her for daring to disgrace womanhood as sex freaks.

It was gathered that if Betty is convicted, she could face up to six years in prison as it is an offense to have sex in public in the country.
What do you think about this move to sanction her?

Senators Exchange Blows In Abuja Over Jonathan

Posted: 04 Jul 2013 04:27 AM PDT

Nigeria's Senate was thrown into confusion on Wednesday after a fight broke out between members, at one point it turned physical as Senator Kabir Marafa from Zamfara State gave his colleague, Senator Paulinus Igwe Ebonyi state a powerful upper cute punch in the floor of the Senate...

Disappointed Senate President, David Mark, cried out, saying senators had always resolved their differences politely and not through fisticuffs.

"We are distinguished senators. We have ways of resolving issues not by boxing. We are elder statesmen; we can do all the talking but we should never resort to boxing. I want to appeal once more that we suspend the debate on this (State of the Nation Bill) for today (Wednesday) if nothing but, because of the way tempers have risen."

The cause of the fight was President Goodluck Jonathan's State of the Nation Address Bill.

Some argued that the President had no power under the 1999 Constitution to propose amendments to a bill passed by the National Assembly. But his friends, however, argued that he could.
President Jonathan, in his amendment proposals, rejected the section that makes it mandatory for him to present the address before a joint session of the National Assembly on an annual basis. He chose to rely on Section 67 of the Constitution, which makes it optional.

He also sought an amendment to allow him delegate the responsibility to the Vice-President, an amendment that the lawmakers rejected.

Kidney Disease Can Kill Anyone; See How To Save Yourself

Posted: 04 Jul 2013 04:17 AM PDT

Diseased kidneys                                       Healthy kidneys
These days, it has virtually become the tradition while watching prime time TV shows to have programmes interrupted for a few minutes, not for product advertisement but for funds solicitation.

Nigerians are now familiar with gaunt figures lying critically sick on the bed and plugged to dialysis machine begging for donations from government and kind-hearted members of public.

The solicited funds usually run into millions of naira to:
Cover the cost of temporary dialysis in Nigeria and subsequent organ transplantation overseas. The latest of such is the music producer, OJB Jezreel, who says he needs about N16m to treat his kidney disease.

Physicians say when it comes to size, the kidneys are small. However, as Kidney Specialist, Dr. Mumeen Amisu opines, "The kidneys may be small, but they perform many vital functions that help maintain your overall health, including filtering waste and excess fluids from your blood."

These organs maintain the balance of salt and minerals in the blood, and also help regulate blood pressure.

The online portal, webmd.com, warns that when the kidneys are damaged, waste products and fluid can build up in the body, causing swelling of the ankles, nausea, vomiting, weakness, poor sleep, shortness of breath, fatigue, confusion, difficulty concentrating, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, abnormally low urine levels, low blood flow to the kidneys and kidney cell death.

"If left untreated, diseased kidneys may eventually stop functioning completely. Loss of kidney function is a serious — and potentially fatal — condition," doctors say.

Experts warn that serious kidney disease may lead to complete kidney failure and the need for dialysis treatments or a kidney transplant when about 90 per cent of the kidney function has been lost. "Once you get a transplant, though, you will have to be on medications for life," experts aver.

Though effective treatments are available for many kidney diseases, physicians contend that kidney disease can often be prevented.

Amisu says apart from genetic or congenital causes — which are beyond the control of anybody — two avoidable leading diseases that can lead to kidney disease are hypertension and diabetes.

On how diabetes affects kidney health, family doctor, Olu George, notes that when someone has diabetes, there can be excess glucose in the blood. "When glucose levels are elevated for a long time, it can cause damage in the tiny blood vessels of the kidneys. Once this happens, the organs won't be able to filter out toxins effectively as they should," George explains.

Both Amisu and George say blood pressure is influenced by the kidneys and that how healthy your kidneys are can affect your blood pressure, and vice versa.

George explains in-depth, "Hypertension causes artery damage, and the kidneys are packed with arteries. Over time, uncontrolled high blood pressure can cause arteries around the kidneys to narrow, weaken or harden. When this happens, the damaged arteries will not be able to deliver enough blood to the kidney tissue."

Experts say damaged kidney arteries will neither filter blood well, nor regulate the fluid, hormones, acids and salts in the body.

Consequently, George says, "damaged kidneys will fail to regulate blood pressure. That is why we always advise people to manage their blood pressure, because it is an important way to prolong the health of the kidneys."

Amisu says kidney damage and uncontrolled hypertension each contribute to a negative spiral because, as more arteries become blocked and stop functioning, the kidneys eventually fail.

Those who use drugs indiscriminately should also receive instruction about the possible repercussions on kidney health. Experts warn that those who abuse drugs or alcohol are essentially going out of their way to poison their own bodies.

This concerns the overuse of some over-the-counter pain killers and using abusive drugs such as heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, etc.

"In the process, they are placing an enormous burden on the kidneys. This is because the kidneys act as filters; and, like the oil filter in a vehicle, the filter provided by the kidneys, though powerful, has limits to how much it can take in terms of impurities," Amisu says.

Kidneys can be injured when an individual has an accident that results in blood loss, physicians say.

George explains that, in various ways, "sudden reduction of blood flow to the kidneys, damage to the organs as a result of septic shock during a severe infection, or obstruction of urine flow can all injure kidney health."

Experts also say that acute kidney injury can result from pregnancy complications, such as seizures (eclampsia) and pre-eclampsia (characterised by high blood pressure and significant amounts of protein in the urine).

Another pregnancy complications that can lead to kidney injury is the HELLP Syndrome — a life-threatening liver disorder characterised by destruction of red blood cells (Hemolysis), Elevated Liver enzymes (indicating liver damage), and Low Platelet count. Low platelet count reduces the ability of the blood to clot whenever there's an injury.

And if you are a marathon runner or an athlete who don't drink enough fluids while competing in long-distance endurance events, you risk acute renal (kidney) failure that may result from a sudden breakdown of muscle tissue. "This muscle breakdown releases a chemical called myoglobin that can damage the kidneys," George says.

And women need to hear this: Multiple urinary tract infections can also damage the kidneys! Pregnant and menopausal women are very susceptible to UTI, physicians warn. They advise that to prevent it, women should drink lots of water every day, and urinate often instead of holding it. They are also advised to urinate right after having sex.

"How do we prevent kidney disease?" you may ask. Simple: by eating well.

A study by a group of scientists, led by Dr. Alex Chang of Johns Hopkins University, USA, reveals that people with normal kidneys who eat bad quality diet high in processed and red meats, sodium (salt), and sugar-sweetened beverages, and low in fruit, nuts, legumes, whole grains, and low-fat dairy are more likely to develop kidney disease.

In the study, published in the American Journal of Kidney Disease, Chang says: "Unlike family history of kidney disease, diet, smoking, and obesity are modifiable lifestyle factors that we can all control. By eating well, quitting smoking, and maintaining a normal weight, people can protect their kidneys and prevent future damage."

A word, they say, is enough for the wise.

Governor Amaechi Donates The Total N15m Needed For OJB's Kidney Transplant?

Posted: 03 Jul 2013 01:17 PM PDT

Information at the disposal of Olokunbolablessing.blogspot.Com is that the authentic Chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum, Rotimi Amaechi, has rubbished the "high level irresponsibility and selfishness" of many rich guys in the music and entertainment industry in Nigeria.
Sources say the governor has shown that he is indeed a man with a heart of gold as he has wholly donated the complete N15million needed to save OJB's life as a result of his kidney problems.

Some close friends of OJB, who have been disgraced by many celebrities they had approached for money, were said to have gone to a popular Lagos-based newspaper editor; the man contacted Governor Amaechi on OJB's behalf and he responded promptly.

Although Nomoreloss, who is in charge of OJB's donations is claiming ignorance of the development, but a say said Governor Amaechi will deliver the total money to OJB on Friday.
I say a big thank you to Governor Amaechi!
