Yet Another Brigandage In Rivers StateYet Another Brigandage In Rivers State

Posted: 12 Jul 2013 04:40 AM PDT

It is exactly 10 years today that some policemen abducted Dr. Chris Ngige from the Government House in Awka, Anambra State. The policemen led by the late Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Raphael Ige, simply ignored the immunity of Ngige as the state governor to carry out this infamy.
This act was, perhaps, the climax of the brigandage that reigned supreme in the state, which is home to many eminent and decent Nigerians.

On that occasion, the police was used by some actors who were close to Aso Rock...
To peddle influence and be lawless in Anambra. The activities of the brigands in Anambra State put liberal democracy to a severe test in the era of President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Celebrated storyteller, Chinua Achebe, spoke out loudly against this lawlessness foisted on his home state. To demonstrate his rejection of brigandage as politics, the icon categorically rejected the honour bestowed on him by the Obasanjo administration. The resonance of the protest was felt nationally. The moral weight of Achebe's voice was widely acknowledged in the torrents of tributes paid to his memory during his funeral recently. You would ordinarily expect that the lessons of official tacit support for anarchy have been learnt from those days of infamy in Anambra.

However, there was a dramatic irony in Port Harcourt yesterday, the eve of the 10th Anniversary of the Anambra brigandage. The drama has shown that no lesson has been learnt in the politics without principle that is prevalent in this republic. Five of the 32 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly attempted to impeach the speaker, Hon. Otelemaba Amachree. In the violence that resulted from this mockery of democracy, the deputy governor, Mr. Tele Ikuru, was allegedly attacked and some members of the House and other persons were reportedly injured. A reign of confusion is being imposed on the state, which like any other state needs stability for good governance to flourish. This portends an extreme threat to peace in the state.

As it was in Anambra in 10 years ago, so it is in Rivers today. The attempt to impeach the speaker is believed to be a prelude to the moves to impeach the state governor, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi. Governor Amaechi is not in the good books of Aso Rock just like Ngige fell out of favour with the powers that be in Abuja in 2003.

The politicians who are demonstrating their power and influence in Rivers State today enjoy the favour of President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Mrs. Patience Jonathan. Yet the constitution is clear on how a state governor could be removed from office. It remains to be seen how those who don't want Amaechi anymore in the State House in Port Harcourt would achieve their aim with five members in the House of Assembly! It is all a continuation of the ridicule of the democratic process.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the leadership of Jonathan has suspended Amaechi from the party following his election as the Chairman of the Governors Forum. Before then, the state executive council of the party was dissolved and another one constituted. The matter is still in court. Meanwhile, the President received this state executive committee of PDP the other day in Aso Rock with harsh words for Amaechi.

While anarchy was being inaugurated in the legislative chamber, the police reportedly looked the other way. The state commissioner of police, Mr. Joseph Mbu, was reported yesterday as saying that he elected to ignore the request from the House of Assembly for special "police security" because such a request was "unusual". This same police officer has verbally attacked the governor. His hostility towards Amaechi is an open secrete. He has arrogated to himself the power to "ban public protest", a power that he does not have constitutionally. His activities in the state are all too reminiscent of the ignoble role of the police in Anambra 10 years ago. Since the governor cannot be moved for Mbu, it would be proper in the circumstance for Inspector-General Mohammed Abubakar to transfer this commissioner of police from Rivers State to another place.

By his conduct, Mbu has certainly lost the confidence of the state government with which he is supposed to work professionally. It is unacceptable that a police officer should treat a governor the way Mbu has treated Amaechi. You don't have to like Amaechi's face to admit that this is absurdity in a federation. This abuse is possible because policing is on the exclusive list. By the way, one of the arguments against the creation of state police is that governors would use the force against their opponents. A counter-argument is that the federal government could also use the police against its opponents. The conduct of Mbu so far seems to have vindicated those who make this counter-argument. The other 35 state governors should also be interested in the unfolding events in Rivers State regardless to which side they belong in the politics of 2015. It is Amaechi's lot today; it could be that of any other governor tomorrow.

Beyond this, it is important for all those who support the building of democratic institutions in Nigeria to speak out against the recklessness that is becoming normative in Rivers State. Politicians should be told to play their game according to the rules.
President Jonathan should remember that peace and stability in Rivers are in the long run more important to Nigeria than the narrow calculation of any politician [including himself].

Dear OBB readers: My fiance has had gay sex, does it mean he's gay?

Posted: 12 Jul 2013 03:54 AM PDT

From a femaleOBB reader
I am engaged to this guy who confessed to me just last week that he has had gay sex in the past. He actually confessed after someone else told me about it. He said he did it for money and not because he's gay. He said his former boss was into men and lured him to have sex with him and after a few romps, gave up on gay sex. He says he's 100% heterosexual but I can't get over the fact that he once let a man sleep with him. He said he was tempted by money but I don't believe any straight man would have gay sex for any reason. I don't know how to feel about this. These days whenever I see him talking to a guy, I start to imagine them having sex. A man who has had gay sex is gay, right?

BUSTED: Nigerian Man Bags 12-Months Imprisonment Over Sham Marriage In UK.

Posted: 11 Jul 2013 01:03 PM PDT

A 29-years-old Nigerian man studying in the UK, Jayeola Abiola,  has been jailed for 12 months over a sham marriage. The Hull University masters student needed to marry to stay in the UK, and that led him into paying a Portuguese woman, Vania Pinheiro-Fernandes, to be his bride.
Officers of the UK border agency had been tipped off by the Hull Registrar that the couple seemed to barely know each other when they were interviews at the rehearsal. On the wedding day, the UK border agency secretly filmed the cars, groom, bride and best man arriving outside the grand 19th century council town hall before arresting them.
It was revealed that Jayeola Abiola was in danger of being deported from UK because his visa was due to expire a few days after the marriage and that the bride gave them out when she used a fake name when they spoke to the registrar.

The bride purchased her wedding dress two hours before the marriage ceremony, and another Nigerian Student, a Leed law student, 25-years-old Ayodeji Abbis, was paid £1,000 to act as the best man. While Abiola Kumoye, 34, was paid £2,650 as part payment to arrange the sham marriage.
The groom has been sentenced to 12-months-imprisonment while the bride was given an 8-months-imprisonment; meanwhile the court adjourned sentence on the best man and the marriage fixer.

The singer talked about her controversial nude photos which she took for a private magazine in New York in this interview with Happenings Magazine. Enjoy

Tell us about your photo shoot in New York?

Well it happened when I was in New York and it was for work. I am not going to talk much on it but it happened when I was in New York, I did a photo shoot for a private magazine company and that is it.

How did you handle the critics on this issue of your nude picture?

Whoever does something they don't criticize?

Did you feel offended about it?

No I never did. Critics don't come to your face, not even one person came to me to complain or anything. But they all say I went nude when I didn't. Yeah! I showed skin but I didn't go nude. So everything that went down was good.

How did your family react to it?

My family is very supportive, they know the kind of girl they have, they understand the kind of daughter they have. They are really supportive; it is work like I said. It was very professional and official.

Will Jonathan win a second term?

Posted: 11 Jul 2013 12:52 PM PDT

Bayo Olupohunda
The handwriting is on the wall. The bold imprints are seen in the failings of this administration. Now the dashed expectations of the Jonathan's presidency all seem to be leading to one predictable end — he may not be re-elected in 2015. There are strong reasons to believe that his fairy tale journey to the Presidency may end in his first term. Apart from the unfolding infighting threatening to tear his party apart, President Goodluck Jonathan appears to have squandered the goodwill that ensured his becoming Nigeria's first minority president. There is a depressing sense in which one cannot just imagine that this country would endure another term of this administration for another four years in office ending in 2019. This will be suicidal. Even now, 2015 looks too distant into the future in the eyes of ordinary Nigerians. In 2011, the president won the election by playing the underdog card.

The 2011 presidential election was won because ordinary Nigerians insisted on voting en masse for the country's first minority president — the man who said he walked barefooted as a child; the man who also became the symbol of an end to the North's bragging right to power since Nigeria's independence from British rule. In 2015, Jonathan will not have the luxury of leveraging on the sentiments that swept him to power in his first term. Now, he will have to look for other reasons. Except that this time, he will not be able to whip up emotions based on his poverty as a child. His ethnic background will also not matter. If he does, no one will believe him again. Rather in 2015, the President will be confronted with the record of his performance. He will have to answer hard questions about his first term in office. And if truth be told, if the present situation in the polity is anything to go by, President Jonathan will be heading back to his hometown in Otuoke come May 29, 2015.
The President will not stand a chance against a formidable opposition with the right candidate in a free and fair election. But even at that, it still does not matter because it appears any type of candidate will still beat this President. His performance so far makes him vulnerable to defeat in a free and fair election. He just has not lived up to the expectations of Nigerians. And I suspect the President and his party are in for a surprise. Perhaps, for the first time, Nigerians will witness the power of their votes. The incumbency factor will not matter in 2015 because the President is poised to lose the election. But President Jonathan should not blame anybody for his predicament if he loses. He has so far been the architect of his own misfortune as a President. He had no excuse not to perform. Let's face it, the President has fallen short of expectations that Nigerians had of his presidency.
There is no better expression to measure his performance since 2011. For a President that came into office to have squandered the enormous goodwill and support from Nigerians is evidence of opportunities gone awry; of hopes deferred. The only people who will support the President are the army of praise singers from his ethnic group who have been singing his praises to no end. And this brings me to the attitude of the so-called Niger Deltan activists and leaders. The leaders of the region have been so disappointing to say the least. This attitude of it-is-either-Jonathan-for-a-second term-or-we-will-all-perish does their ethnic group no good. It is even an embarrassment to the office of the President.  Why do they act as if Jonathan is the President of only the Niger Delta? Why are they threatening to bring Nigeria down if Jonathan does not get a second term? Did the President emerge in his first term only by the region's votes? Can threats make a non-performing President stay in office in perpetuity? The culture of entitlement that pervades the region is the reason why the Niger Delta might still be backward even if Jonathan gets a second term. They should know that it was the support of Nigerians that got the President a first term. Nigerians thus have the right to demand performance from him. And right now, the situation in our country today does not look good. In 2015, President Jonathan will have to present his scorecard.
Nigerians will ask him why corruption which he promised to tackle in his inaugural address has become a hydra-headed monster in his administration. He will have to explain why his administration has not so secured a single conviction in spite of massive corruption in the land. Nigerians will in 2015 ask this President why all the cases of corruption involving individuals in his government have all died a natural death. The President will explain why all the anti-corruption agencies have all become toothless bulldogs. It has become glaring that President Jonathan has lost the trust and goodwill of Nigerians. The dominant view of Nigerians is that this government has failed. The impunity that has become a culture in the country today is because the president has not been decisive in the fight against corruption.
That is why all the agencies of government have been left to their own devices. The culture of impunity has been so pervasive. Take the power sector for example. The President has not arrested the unending conundrum that has dogged the unbundling of the sector. This should not continue beyond 2015. Meanwhile, the power situation continues to get worse. The 2015 elections should be about performance and the President has a lot of questions to answer about his stewardship unless something drastic happens between now and the election date.
The President also has to explain why million of Nigerian youths cannot find jobs. All we hear from this government is how the economy is growing at an unbelievable rate. Pray, how can the economy grow while millions are unemployed?  What kind of voodoo economy is that? Didn't the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy say the last time that the unemployment figures give her sleepless night? What further evidence do Nigerians need that this government is not providing an enabling environment for job creation? The millions of youths who had hoped in this government will ask hard questions in 2015. The security situation in the country is a cause for grave concern. The other day, about 40 pupils were murdered by suspected terrorists in Yobe State. As I write, nobody has been apprehended for perpetrating the dastardly act.
The Jos crisis continues to claim more lives. In many parts of the country, lives and property are not secure. Yet, the government blames everybody else except itself. How can a government whose primary duty is to safeguard lives and property fail woefully in performing the same duty? Meanwhile, the country also lags behind in all development indexes. The argument advanced by the supporters of this government is that our problems are not created by President Jonathan. But has the administration demonstrated the political will to tackle the problems head on? Does government not exist to solve problems no matter how old they have existed?
However, there has been some good news lately. The President recently inaugurated the construction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Let's just hope the project will not become abandoned like the previous attempts. The federal roads across the country are also said to be getting the attention they deserve. This is not forgetting the ongoing rehabilitation in the nation's airports. But all this will pale into insignificance when compared to the dashed expectations of this government. It is for these reasons that Jonathan may lose in 2015. All things being equal, anyway.

Operators to pay N200,000 for every unregistered SIM

Posted: 11 Jul 2013 12:48 PM PDT

Eugene Ikemefuna Juwah, the Executive Vice Chairman, NCC
Any telecommunications operator that failed to disconnect unregistered Subscriber Identity Module cards from its network by July 1 this year in line with the directive of the Nigerian Communications Commission will have to pay N200,000 fine per SIM if detected.
The Assistant Director, NCC, Mr. Reuben Muoka, revealed this to our correspondent in a telephone interview on Wednesday.
"For a SIM card that an operator refuses to disconnect after the June 30 deadline, the operator will pay N200,000," he said

The penalty is similar to that which the operators deemed to be frustrating porting processes under the Mobile Number Portability scheme will pay on every frustrated line because the NCC has also pegged the penalty for MNP abuses at N200,000 per line.
Confirming this, Muoka said, "The penalty is like that of number portability where operators are required to pay N200,000 as fine for not allowing a subscriber that wants to port to do so."
Ten days after the expiration of the SIM card registration deadline, there are still indications that some telecoms operators have yet to disconnect unregistered SIMs on their networks.
Some that claimed to have disconnected unregistered SIMs, it was learnt, only partially implemented the NCC directive by disconnecting a few SIMs.
The Director, Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement, NCC, Mr. Ubale Maska, in a recent letter to telecoms operators, cautioned them to either commence deactivation of unregistered SIMs on their networks, or face heavy sanction.
The letter read in part, "Please note that the commission has commenced compliance monitoring and if unregistered SIM cards are found to be active on your networks, the commission shall invoke its powers under regulation 19 and 20 of the Registration of Subscribers Regulations, 2011 and impose the maximum fine on your companies without further recourse to any network."
In a bid to ensure that the directive was strictly adhered to, NCC also directed operators to forward to the commission a summary of the registered and active lines on their networks as of June 30.
The Commission also demanded that operators forward to it details of unregistered and deactivated lines as of June 30, in line with Section 15(2) of the Registration of Telephone Subscribers Regulations, 2011.

SHOCKER! Mother Stabbed 9-Months-Old Child 90 Times For Biting Her While She Breastfed Him. (Photos)

Posted: 11 Jul 2013 12:39 PM PDT

What is happening to our word today? There are too many stories of violent abuse on children by adults and parents everyday around the world, and this actually made me cry.
An eight month old boy, Xiao Bao, was stabbed 90 times by his biological mother for biting her while she was breastfeeding him.
The incident happened in Xuzhou, eastern China's Jiangsu province. He was rescued by one of his uncles who discovered him lying in a pool of blood in the yard of their home where the infant lives with his mother and two uncles, and he was rushed to the hospital. Though he was saved but with more than 100 stitches.
It's alleged that neighbours of the mother have pleaded with the local government to take the child away, but they said they will not, because there was no confirmation that the mother was suffering from a mental illness and the baby have two other guardians who are his uncles. What a pity!
Words fail me! See more pix after the cut:

Names And Churches Of 77 Pastors Who Signed Letter To Support Gay Marriage In Australia

Posted: 11 Jul 2013 12:33 PM PDT

gay-marriage
As countries around the world and gay rights activists claim legalizing same-s*x marriage is simply allowing marriage equality, Australia which has hitherto remained conservative based on the government's deep relationship with the church is set to join the wagon of countries where gay marriage is legal as the church has now signified its support.
Marriage Equality has welcomed a letter from 77 Clergy from across Australia calling on Australians to show their support for marriage equality by making submissions to the Senate Inquiry and the House Representatives inquiry into same-s*x marriage.
6 Victorian Catholic Bishops had at the weekend
wrote to parishioners asking them to oppose equality for same-s*x couples, but clergy men from different denominations of the church has now signified their support for same-s*x marriage.
The supportive clergy come from Uniting, Baptist, Anglican, Jewish, Buddhist, and other faith groups and their letter sent to 60,000 supporters reads:
"As clergy from various different faiths and denominations in Australia, we believe marriage is a fundamental institution in our society. It fosters greater commitment between partners, provides children with a sense of security and stability, and strengthens ties with families and communities. Marriage is a blessing to be shared, so we encourage people of faith who support marriage equality to voice their support for the reform by responding to the House of Representatives inquiry on same-s*x marriage today."
Australian Marriage Equality National Convener, Alex Greenwich, said the Clergy were sending a clear message to decision makers in Canberra:
"These Clergy value the security and recognition that comes with marriage, and are calling for this important right to be extended to loving and committed same-s*x couples."
Mr Greenwich said the letter was a sign of the growing momentum towards marriage equality: "Some of the clergy were once opposed to marriage equality, but have gone on the same journey of acceptance that a majority of Australians have".
"Despite the moves of the Victorian Catholic Church, same-s*x couples and our families can be confident we now have strong support from religious leaders across the country".

Lamar Odom goes beserk on paparazzi amid cheating rumours

Posted: 11 Jul 2013 12:31 PM PDT

Lamar Odom turned on paparazzi yesterday in Los Angeles amid reports he cheated on his wife Khloe Kardashian with a woman named Jennifer Richardson.

In the video posted online, Lamar is seen throwing items out a paparazzo's car and smashing his camera equipment on the ground.

Lamar's outburst comes just as his alleged mistress is threatening to publish proof of their affair. Continue...

According to Star magazine...

Following the bombshell report on Lamar Odom's secret affair, now comes more news that could break Khloe Kardashian's heart: According to Star magazine, his alleged mistress Jennifer Richardson has a treasure trove of mementos proving she and Lamar had a relationship for several months.
Jennifer collected plane tickets, invoices and game tickets that a pal claims are from her time on the road with Lamar, which lasted from December 12, 2012 until February 12, 2013. As Lamar played for the L.A. Clippers, proud Jennifer was allegedly in the stands watching.
"He flew her first class every time," her friend told Star.
And he also allegedly put her up in five-star hotels, using his friend, Anthony McNair, as a cover. Among the items pictured in Star is a check-in envelope with Anthony's name on it.
Together, the items are evidence that Jennifer was much more than just a booty call, her friend insists.
"Between games, she would just go home and repack for her next trip with Lamar," the friend explains. "She didn't do this for fame. She did this because they had a connection. They shared all their secrets with each other. Lamar fell for her, and she fell for him.

Man Hid Camera In Bathroom To See If His Stepdaughter, 22, Had Pelvic Tattoos

After a hidden camera was found in the ceiling vent of his stepdaughter's bathroom, a Florida man told cops that he placed it there in order to determine whether the 22-year-old woman had received "tattoos in her pelvic area," according to a police report.
The camera was found yesterday by the woman in the Bradenton home she shares with her mother and stepfather, Arnoldo Martinez, 54. The woman "pulled vout the camera and started to investigate," deputies noted in a Manatee County Sheriff's Office report.
After discovering the camera, the woman "located where the camera was plugged into an extension cord in the attic and then contacted police.
" When an officer subsequently explained that a receiver was needed to view images captured by the camera," the woman "entered her parents room" and "located a receiver plugged into her parents TV."
Martinez, who investigators summoned from work, admitted that he "placed the camera in the vent in order to view [the woman's] tattoos and report them back to her mother." He also acknowledged that one storage card contained video of his stepdaughter recorded the prior evening.
According to investigators, Martinez admitted that he was aware that the surreptitious filming was illegal, but that he "wanted evidence that [his stepdaughter] did have tattoos in her pelvic area." He added that a seized recording contained "images of her unclad but he could only really view her br**sts in the video."
Pictured in the above mug shot, Martinez was charged with felony video voyeurism since he allegedly installed the camera to secretly view and record the woman for his "personal gratification."
Martinez was released today from the Manatee County jail after posting $1500 bond. He is scheduled for an August 2 Circuit Court hearing.

Officials of the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit have arrested a pastor and three others over alleged oil theft at Majidun, Ikorodu area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.
At least, 317 fifty-litre kegs of petrol, amounting to 15,850 litres were recovered by the taskforce officials during the raid. The suspects and the 317 kegs of petrol were brought to the taskforce office at Alausa..

P.M.NEWS investigations revealed that the suspects were arrested around 5 p.m. on Tuesday when the taskforce officials sighted them stealing petrol from NNPC pipeline into 50-litre kegs at Majidun. In an attempt to arrest the oil thieves, many of them allegedly jumped into the river and escaped.

Three-hundred and seventeen kegs loaded with stolen petrol were later sighted near the Baale's house. Investigations led to the arrest of four people in connection with the theft.
Those arrested are 58-year old Oluafin Abejoye, who claimed to be a pastor at the Holy Power Church of Zion; Samson Aliu, 30; Niyi Emorioloye, 21 and Onyekachi Chukwu, 22.
Taskforce Chairman, Bayo Sulaiman, Chief Superitendent of Police, CSP, told P.M.NEWS that his men came across the kegs of petrol by chance during an operation, saying that they discovered the kegs of petrol very close to the Baale's house. He accused residents of the area of engaging in pipeline vandalism and oil theft.
Sulaiman said the arrested suspects would be arraigned in court and punished according to the laws of the state, if found guilty.
However, the suspects denied engaging in vandalism, saying that they were wrongly arrested by the taskforce.
Pastor Abejoye said he is not a vandal, but explained that he was aware of the activities of oil vandals in the area. He described himself as the Primate of the Holy Power Church of Zion.
Another suspect, Emorioloye disclosed that he knew nothing about the act, saying that he was arrested when he came down from a canoe, while Aliu, who claimed to be the son of the leader of the Celestial Church of Christ in the area, also denied engaging in oil theft. Chukwu also denied the allegation.

Is Your Aso-Ebi Ready? (MUST READ)

Posted: 11 Jul 2013 12:12 PM PDT

I love weddings!!! (*bigsmile*); weddings in Nigeria are really a big deal for everyone that will be a part of it. Getting your aso-ebi and making sure it is ready as at when needed is one of the troubles you have to go through just to be a part of that wedding ceremony.
On many occasions, I have declined going to a wedding because I either don't have the aso-ebi or mine is not ready due to tailoring hassles and when I decide to go to a wedding without the aso-ebi, I do my home-work by 'encouraging myself in the Lord' (lol and *smh*) such that when I'm in the midst of others who have their own aso-ebi, I don't feel bad or out of place (I'm sure we can all relate to this especially the ladies *winks*).But of recent, during a Bible Study in the book of Matthew 22:1-14, I discovered that there is one wedding where you have to be with your aso-ebi as a child of God and that is the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Without this aso-ebi, a child of God is definitely going to be out of place and will be denied entrance during the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. From the parable illustrated by Jesus Christ in that passage of the Bible, it is not enough to be among the crowd invited to the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, we must distinguish ourselves from others by ensuring that we have not stained or wrinkled our garment with sin and ensure that we have the right aso-ebi (wedding clothes) that is, we must ensure that our righteousness is of God.
It is our duty to look out for our aso-ebi and do all that is within our power to make it ready without any spots or wrinkle. Most times I think to myself and say 'Lord, not even a wrinkle?!?! That's quite scary and difficult!!!' (*whew*) But HE continually makes me understand that HIS grace is sufficient for us and because we know HIM and are HIS children, HE has given us the power to live a godly life (2 Peter 1:3) such that our aso-ebi would be without spot and wrinkle on that glorious day.

Brethren, even as we prepare for that glorious wedding day between ourselves and our Bridegroom, let us key into the grace our Father has made available unto us, let us continue to please HIM in all that we do, let us continually pursue righteousness, let us do well to watch and keep our aso-ebi (garments) as well as make it ready for the coming of our Lord and King so that we will make that wonderful and glorious Marriage Supper of the Lamb on the last day and will not be found wanting. Revelation 16:15a says "Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments..." God help us all...

SHOCKING: Serving Police Officer Arrested In Armed Robbery

Posted: 11 Jul 2013 12:09 PM PDT

This is indeed a case of "one day bush meat go catch the hunter"! It was indeed a sad case as latest findings have shown that some senior police officers now engage in armed robbery operations secretly.
Olokunbolablessing.blogspot.Com gathered that a service police officer has been arrested among his gang of armed robbers during their robbery operation. Surprisingly, the inspector confessed that he was introduced into the dirty operation by a serving Police ASP...
The 60-year-old serving Police Inspector Nanagha Aduoumeni, who is a member of a six-man police armed robbery gang was paraded on Thursday by operatives of the 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, in Benin.

Inspector Aduoumeni, attached to 'A' Department of Nigeria Police Force, Bayelsa State Command, was arrested on June 26, 2013, by troops of 222 Battalion on patrol at Orhoror Junction, along Bomadi Road in Delta State at about 2am.

The Brigade Public Relations Officer, Capt. Roselyn Managbe, who addressed journalists on behalf of the Brigade Commander, Brig-Gen. Pat Akem, said Inspector Aduoumeni was caught blocking the road with woods, while other members of his gang who were armed, took cover in thick bush along the road.

"When they sighted the Nigerian Army Quick Response Group driving towards them, Inspector Nanagha tried to withdraw back into the bush, but he was caught while other members of his gang escaped into the creeks," Capt. Managbe explained.
In his confessional statement, the robber/police officer revealed that members of his gang were all serving police personnel who indulge in robbery activities after their normal police duties.

"The suspect also confessed that Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Okubopagha and Inspector Okoro of 'B' Department, Nigeria Police, are members of his gang."

Inspector Aduoumeni who confirmed his involvement in a robbery operation, said he joined the Police Force May 1st, 1982 and that he was introduced to armed robbery by an ASP, claiming that he was caught in his first operation with the gang.

He said: "I was arrested at Bomadi. I was caught the first day I joined. We were six in number. Others were in uniform but I was not. The ASP introduced me, they were with Police guns. We robbed only two vehicles. When we were about to go they gave me only N5,000.00. I don't know how they collected the money."

Asked how he feels with his arrest, the suspect and father of two from Ayakoromo, Delta State, said, "I feel for my children and wife now that I have been arrested."

The army said said the police-robber would be handed over to the police authority for prosecution.

Your Wife Is Just A Domestic Appendage; Angry Prof Soyinka Lambasts Jonathan

Posted: 11 Jul 2013 12:06 PM PDT

Nigeria's foremost human rights activists, Professor Wole Soyinka and Femi Falana (SAN), on Thursday came down heavily on President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience; describing the first lady in particular as a "mere domestic appending of power" who should stop meddling in governance.

Prof Soyinka and Falana lambasted President Jonathan for:
Engineering the chaos rocking Rivers State House of Assembly. The professor particularly said it is obvious that Jonathan and his wife are using the security apparatus to intimidate Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
They also called on the police hierarchy to remove and prosecute the commissioner of police in Rivers state, Joseph Mbu for role in the saga.

An infuriated Soyinka also asked the media to stop paying attention to the so-called newly elected speaker of Rivers state, Evans Bipi, describing the man as "a clown".
Prof Soyinka and Falana addressed the Press on the show of shame in Rivers State on Thursday.

Question of the day

Posted: 11 Jul 2013 12:04 PM PDT

A situation arose in a family, the man earns N250,000 a month and the wife earns N350,000 a month and they work in the same company. One of them has to leave the job because it's the company's new policy that couples will no more be tolerated. Who do you think should leave the job with effective reasons?
