Deeper Life Pastor Convicted For Fraud In America; Faces 30 Years In Prison

Posted: 07 Aug 2013 02:02 AM PDT

A jury in New York has convicted Nigeria lawyer and Deeper Life Bible Church pastor, Ifeanyichukwu Eric Abakporo, on charges of fraud.

Consequently, Pastor Eric Abakporo could spend a maximum term of about 30 years in prison when he is finally sentenced on November 12, 2013.

According to Sahara Reporters, Abakporo was found guilty of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and bank fraud. The first and third charges each carry a maximum of 30 years in jail, while wire fraud carries a maximum of 20 years.

Abakporo's co-conspirator, Latanya Pierce, who was also found guilty on all three counts, faces the same predicament. She will be sentenced separately on December 9, 2013.

Last February, a grand jury of the United States District Court Southern District of New York indicted Abakporo and Pierce on the charges, and recommended that they forfeit to the government a wide variety of properties related to their offences, as well as a sum of money representing the approximate amount of proceeds obtained as a result of the offences.

The jury trial of the suspects took place on July 26 before Judge Shira A. Scheindlin, and the guilty verdict was rendered as early as 1:00pm. Ms. Pierce is currently out on bail, but Abakporo was remanded in custody.

It would be recalled that the superseding indictment [Case 1:12-cr-00340-SAS filed on January 24, 2013] charged that between 2003 and 2012, Abakporo and Pierce, who owned or controlled several real estate-related businesses, worked together to defraud financial institutions and mortgage lenders, property owners, property buyers and others of real property, mortgage loan proceeds, and monies related to real property transactions.

As part of their fraudulent scheme, the indictment said, Abakporo and Pierce used straw purchasers and borrowers to buy properties using mortgage loans from financial institutions and mortgage lenders, and caused false and fraudulent documents and information to be submitted to those financial institutions and mortgage lenders.

The properties involved were said to include:
1. 99 – 21 215th Street, Queens, New York
2. 50 Carnegie Avenue, Elmont, New York
3. 143 Quincy Street, Brooklyn, New York
4. 1308 Caton Avenue, Brooklyn, New York
5. 1070 Saint Nicholas Avenue, Manhattan, New York
6. 215 – 11, 111th Road, Cambria Heights, New York, and
7. 101 – 24 197th Street, Hollis, New York 11423

In a previous indictment, the story was also told of how Abakporo defrauded a 78-year old American lady, swindling her out of her property.

"Through lies and deception, these individuals abused the trust of an elderly woman in order to perpetrate a multimillion dollar fraud," New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said, vowing they would face justice.

In May 2012, the federal prosecutor's office announced the arrest of Abakporo and Pierce for swindling the elderly lady out of her apartment building and stiffing a bank from whom they fraudulently obtained a $1.8 million mortgage loan.

In addition:
Abakporo's case calls to mind the judgement on another fraudulent Nigeria-born lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, who converted to personal use the sum of $1.55 million he received from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) on behalf of the Embassy of Nigeria.

Giving judgement in that case on July 24, Judge Barbara J. Rothstein of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia ordered the rogue lawyer to pay to the Embassy about $2.2 million.

€100 A Day To BreastFeed Gay Couples' Babies - French Woman Offers.

Posted: 07 Aug 2013 01:32 AM PDT

This is another level of entrepreneurship. A French woman posted an offer on a French website to breastfeed babies of homosexual male couples for €100 a day just weeks after same-sex marriage law was passed.
The post which was verified by the website as genuine and legal reads: "I am a young mother in perfect health, a trained nurse of 29, and I am renting my breasts to milk-feed infants." The woman is based near Paris and promised up to 10 breast-feeds a day.

The chief executive of the website, Alexandre Woog, said it's staff has contacted the woman and had no doubts about her identity and the seriousness of the proposal, nor the legality of the service proposed. Woog told newsmen "Our legal advisers are sure of this. It's illegal in France to sell maternal milk but this is a person proposing a service, not selling milk in flasks."
Allowing gay couple to adopt and raise children has just opened up a new source of jobs for wet nurses.

Usher's 5 year old son hospitalized after nearly drowning in the pool

Usher and Tameka Raymond's 5-year-old son, Usher Raymond V, was rushed to the hospital after almost drowning in the family pool...

From TMZ
Usher's son Usher Raymond V is in the ICU at an Atlanta hospital after a serious accident in the singer's pool Monday, TMZ has learned. Sources say the accident occurred around 6 PM yesterday. Usher was not home at the time.
Here's what we know ... The child was playing in the pool with his aunt and saw a toy in the drain. He dove down to get the toy and his arm got stuck in the drain. The aunt immediately dove in to rescue him but couldn't get his hand out. The maid then dove in and tried but was also unsuccessful.
The maid screamed for help. Two men working in the house came out, dove in and freed the boy. He was given CPR immediately and rushed to the hospital. Usher arrived and drove in the ambulance with his son.
5-year-old Usher Raymond V is the oldest of Usher's two sons with ex-wife Tameka Raymond. We're told Usher and Tameka are currently at the hospital.
Doctors have been running a series of tests and doctors say he'll be ok.
This is the second accident to strike a child in Usher's family. Tameka's 11-year-old son Kile from a previous relationship passed away last year from injuries sustained during a jet ski accident.

Buhari Speaks On How PDP Will Go Down; PDP Replies Him

Posted: 07 Aug 2013 01:20 AM PDT

General Muhammadu Buhari, 3-time presidential candidate and a major stakeholder in the newly-registered All Progressives Congress, APC on Tuesday said the new party is determined to push out the ruling Peoples Democratic Party come 2015.

"The APC is focus-driven to push the PDP out of power by 2015," Buhari told members of the Democratic Emancipation Movement who paid him a courtesy visit in Kaduna.
On whether he will be the candidate of APC or not, Buhari said:
"My decision will be tied to the constitution of the APC. If the party chooses me as its candidate, I will contest. If the members do not consider me, I will not contest but I will still support the party. My decision to run for 2015 will solely be that of the party."
But the PDP, in a sharp reaction to Buhari, said that Buhari is day-dreaming. "There is no way the APC can win the election in 2015. He (Buhari) is day-dreaming," said the Acting National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Mr. Tony Okeke.

Buhari however stressed that APC would give Nigerians a new lease of life and hope that would make the country rank top in the comity of nations.

He also lauded the nation's electoral umpire the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for mustering the courage to register APC.

He admitted that in the past, the opposition parties in the country had made mistakes because "we made ourselves vulnerable," adding that they are now strong enough to defeat the PDP in 2015.

Nollywood Stars Now Losing Endorsement Deals To Musicians

Posted: 07 Aug 2013 01:15 AM PDT

After a phenomenal rise to global fame, Nollywood celebrated its 20th anniversary recently. It ought to be a time to dance probably round the year, but things are far from being very rosy for the industry at present. Among other issues, piracy, absence of structured distribution networks and a string of scandals trailing some of its starplayers are threatening to rob Nollywood of its glory.
While these issues are not new, they have taken a toll on the fortunes of some actors and actresses. Before now, one area where a good number of the screen stars had found consolation is that of endorsements by corporate organisations, especially telecom giants.
But the business world is fast shifting its love to musicians.
Only last week, Globacom dropped some of its Nollywood ambassadors, after settling for a crop of Nigerian singers. For some, it is a pointer to the fact that the organisation may have realised that musicians, rather than actors, have more influence on young people in Nigeria at the moment.

In this day and age, it seems all it takes for an average singer to hit it big in Nigeria is just one single – which does not necessarily have to convey a meaningful message. Then the money begins to roll in – invitation to perform at high-profile shows, a string of endorsements and so on become the lot of the artiste.

Those affected by the decision include some of its old hands, Ramsey Noah, Rita Dominic, Mike Ezuruonye, Monalisa Chinda, Nonso Diobi, Uche Jombo and Yoruba actor, Odunlade Adekola, who got signed on in 2011.

On the flip side, Chioma Chukwuka, Ini Edo, Funke Akindele and Desmond Elliot are retained, at least, for now.

As expected, the list has not passed un-scrutinised. The decision to drop Jombo, who is not only scandal-free but currently wears the toga of a producer and actress for Akindele, has, for instance been queried by some people.

Interestingly, MTN also appears to be thinking in the same direction. It has found love in the arms of reigning singers such as Tiwa Savage, Kcee, Inyanya, Praiz and Davido just as Globacom has courted M.I, Omawumi, Lynxxx, Bez, Waje, Naeto C, Flavour and Burna Boy. Besides, the former once engaged the services of top actors, Nkem Owoh and Patience Ozokwo, in some of its campaigns and TV commercials in recent years, but failed to sign them up as ambassadors.

Again, the fact that some of the artistes being signed on to both companies are still at the teething stage of their careers, with just a hit or two in their kitties, throws up more questions than answers.

But it is also sure that it is the one who pays the piper that calls the tune.

Traditionally, the concept of celebrity endorsements is embraced by top organisations all around the world because it helps to build trust with current and potential customers, while increasing the consumer's desire for a product in the process

Also, radio and television personalities are taking the shine off actors with regards endorsements. These include big names like Dan Foster, Toolz and Toke Makinwa, who recently inked multi-million Naira endorsement deals as Lipton Tea ambassadors. Toolz, Makinwa and TV presenter, Eku Edewor, are also the faces of recently-launched alcoholic beverage, Snapp.

While it may be too early in the day to tell whether or not the ongoing romance with music stars may be short-lived or translate to portability, or a just a mere gamble, the fact remains that Nollywood is losing out in the game.

Don Jazzy Thinks Peter Okoye Has Set A Bad Example

Following Peter Okoyo's dramatic proposal to Lola Omotayo, his lover and babymama, with a Range Rover SUV Jeep, Don Jazzy kind of think that the guy has set a wrong example for other guys in the entertainment industry as this could make their own babes start expecting expensive cars from them too.

See Don Jazzy's take on Peter Okoye's proposal to Lolo Omotayo below:

I guess Don Jazzy is trying to let "Onome" know in advance that he won't be buying her a big car. *laughs*

Jonathan Queries Sanusi Lamido Over Fraud In CBN Account

Posted: 07 Aug 2013 01:02 AM PDT

President Goodluck Jonathan has queried the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, over some "serious issues" in the apex's bank's 2012 audit.

A confirmation of the query was made by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, when contacted to confirm or deny the query by Mr President to Sanusi.

Although Abati was not specific in his response, he said he was aware that "some issues" came up and the CBN governor was asked to offer explanations.

"What I know is that some issues came up and he (the CBN governor) was asked to explain and he has since done so," Abati told Punch on phone.

According to reports, Mallam Sanusi was queried by Jonathan over alleged infractions discovered in CBN's 2012 audited account. The query covered 22 issues bordering on infractions in the bank.

Other issues raised in the query include the write-off of about N3.5bn CBN staff housing loan.

It also touched other issues such as refusal of the apex bank to consolidate its accounts, the trillion naira debt owed by the Asset Management Company, and the non-disclosure of the total liabilities through bond floated by the company.

Sanusi was also asked to explain the discrepancies noted in the 2012 account regarding Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company, a subsidiary of the CBN.

Well, since Reuben Abadi said Sanusi has replied OluFamous.Com will keep a tab on this matter and update you guys as the issues unfold.

SHOCKER!!! Man Dies After Swallowing 28 Raw Eggs [PHOTO]

Posted: 06 Aug 2013 01:06 PM PDT

A man died after downing many eggs because his friends challenged him to do it, according to press reports.

It is being called death by the egg. The young Tunisian man has died after winning a bet to eat 28 raw eggs at once.

Dhaou Fatnassi, 20, of the city of Kairouan, ingested the eggs after his friends challenged him to do it for an undisclosed amount of money.
The young man experiencing stomach pains and was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival, a local newspaper reported.

Although bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts are known to add raw eggs to protein drinks, eating raw eggs raises risks of contracting salmonella, a bacteria that can cause fatal food poisoning. Food experts say the only way to reduce the potential risk of food poisoning is to cook the egg properly.

The death comes just months after another strange food dare ended in tragedy when Edward Archbold died during a cockroach eating contest in Florida.
Minutes after the contest the man, who was 32-years-old, collapsed, after downing dozens of live insects in the Ben Siegel Reptile Store in Deerfield Beach.

An autopsy report said Archbold died of "asphyxia by drowning", as his airway was blocked by the body parts of cockroaches.

"Emulate Ibori" - Pastor Advice Nigerians At james Ibori's Birthday Thanksgiving.

Posted: 06 Aug 2013 12:55 PM PDT

I wonder why Nigerians continue to celebrate 'lootocracy'. They honour looters, terrorists, militants, assassins etc. Uhm...only Nigerians can make a mad man look sane and make a sane man look mad. If he were to be a common criminal, no one would want to associate with him, but now that he is a rich criminal, everyone want to be recognized with him. Nigeria my beloved country! The land where mad men direct traffic and the supposedly sane people follow obediently....Is there really any hope for this country?
On Sunday 4th August 2013, the people of Oghara in Delta State celebrated their former governor in grand style on his 55th birthday. Although, the ex governor, James Onanefe Ibori, is currently serving his jail terms in a London prison for fraud, his admirers and political associates gathered to celebrate him.  The celebration started with a Thanksgiving service at the Baptist Church, where the pastor, Rev Iweh Godspower, challenged the congregation to emulate Ibori.
While the Rev was preaching, he asked:
"What is that aspect of ibori's personality that could attract such mammoth crowd which filled the church and overflows outside?"
He answered his own question by saying:
"It is given that Ibori is a huge success, but that is not why all of you have left your homes and different towns to be in Oghara today; even though the man you have come to celebrate may never know the individuals that have come to do him honour. You have come to Ogahara today because Ibori is a man who after climbing high in the social, political and economical ladders of Nigeria, he did not seize and throw away the ladders in the way most Nigerian big men usually do; he made the ladder available for others to climb up too. And even when some people are too weak to make good use of that ladder, he helped pull them up. That is why you are here today. Never forget that and you go and do likewise; help others to climb up the ladders of life and love." The crowd applauded him and others bellowed Ibori's nickname "Odidigborigbo of Africa."
The three days celebration ends today with a topflight novelty football match at the Oghara Township Stadium.

Drama as 21-yr-old accused asks magistrate for food

Posted: 06 Aug 2013 12:51 PM PDT

LAGOS — The magistrate's court sitting in Yaba, Lagos, yesterday, witnessed a mild drama following an outburst by one of the arraigned suspects.

The incident occurred during the hearing of a two-count felony charge brought against the suspect, Tunde Balogun (21), who instead of pleading to the charges, brought out some drugs from his pocket as he cried to the magistrate: "Please Ma, I have been on these drugs since  Saturday. I am not feeling okay. I have not had anything to eat since morning. Please Ma, if you can help me, just give me something so that I can swallow these drugs."

This prompted the magistrate to halt the session for some minutes  to ascertain the health condition of the accused from the Prosecuting Officer who brought him to court. It was then revealed that it was a strategy to distract the court session.

After the second charge was read, the accused remained silent for a while, after which he told the magistrate: "I heard what you said, but I don't know anything about the charges you just read to me. I am not guilty of the charges. I am not feeling very fine, please I need to take these medications I bought from the chemist since Saturday."

It was further revealed by some witnesses at the hearing that a previous case of felony and assault committed against a young lady in February 2013, was struck out in court last Friday,  but instead of turning a new leaf, the accused who is a son of a retired court official, committed another felony the next day.

According to a witness,"he is unrepentant and this has caused his father, who is a retired court registrar, so much pain."

When asked reasons for misbehaving during the hearing, the accused told our reporter: "Truly, I am innocent of the charge against me. That evening, I went with one of my friends to purchase some drugs at a chemist, and suddenly we heard people shouting and running after some young men.

"In confusion, we joined them, but before I knew what was happening, they mobbed me. They broke a bottle on my head in the process. Look at the wound," he said, showing off a wounded  back of his head.

Man Found Hanged toDeath from a Tree with His Own Belt

Posted: 06 Aug 2013 12:46 PM PDT

Lifeless young man was found hanging from a tree in the Forest of San Juan  Mexico by joggers who went for a morning whiff through the forested area. The unusual thing about the find was that the man was hanged with his own belt and his feet were touching the ground.

The victim had no identification on person and neither a suicide note, nor a narcomensaje could be found anywhere in the vicinity. Whether he committed suicide or someone murdered him, as well as who he was remain a mystery.
