Write to the Pope and he may call you back: Pontiff has been telephoning people who send him letters Posted: 24 Aug 2013 12:37 PM PDT A word of warning to those who write personal notes to Pope Francis: He might just call you back. Francis has already charmed the masses with his informal style, simplicity and sense of humour. But a handful of strangers have gotten the treatment up close, receiving papal phone calls out of the blue after writing him or suffering some personal tragedy. So the Catholic faithful are being warned: Be ready, especially if the landline rings. Down to earth: Pope Francis has been surprising Catholics who write to them by personally calling them back The 76-year-old Francis has a fondness for making calls the old-fashioned way, using land lines and placing the calls himself, often surprising recipients by simply announcing: 'It's the pope.' After his election in March, Francis reportedly called his newspaper stand in Buenos Aires to cancel his daily delivery and his shoemaker to tell him not to bother with papal red leather loafers but to keep making his regular black orthotics. The receptionist at the Jesuit headquarters in Rome thought he got a crank call when Francis phoned two days after being chosen pope looking for the Jesuit superior. Francis has since called an Italian man whose brother was killed and a Colombian woman who works in Rome to thank her for a book. After another random phone call from the pope this week, Italy's leading Corriere della Sera daily offered etiquette tips for the lucky recipients, proposing conversation starters and no-go areas on its front page Friday. Stefano Cabizza, 19, from Padua, was the recipient of this week's papal phonecall after he left a letter for Francis at a Mass he attended Beppe Severgnini, a noted humorist and Corriere columnist, suggested:
The recipient of this week's call, a 19-year-old student Stefano Cabizza, was quoted by Corriere as saying that Francis had told him to refer to him with the informal 'tu,' noting that 'Even Jesus and the apostles used the "tu".' Mr Cabizza said he received the call after leaving a letter for Francis following his Mass at Castel Gandolfo on August 15. He declined to say what he had written. Finally, Severgnini advised people not to be worried about what to say. 'Just be natural,' he wrote. 'If he wanted to get bored, he would have called a government minister.' |
Posted: 24 Aug 2013 12:15 PM PDT Alec Baldwin's wife Hilaria gave birth to their first child on Friday and his 17-year-old daughter Ireland is delighted to be a big sister. The excited model posted a letter to baby Carmen on her Tumblr page after the birth was announced. In the letter, the teen shares some words of wisdom with her little sister and welcomes her into the world. Big sister: Ireland Baldwin has written a letter of advice to her new baby sister Carmen 'You have been born into one crazy family,' the daughter of Alec and Kim Basinger writes. 'You are both lucky and cursed at the same time. We are going to have so fun much fun together.' Ireland composed the 1800 word letter before meeting Carmen, and wrote: 'I can't wait to meet you soon. I promise you I will always be there for you no matter what! Never forget!' In particular, the statuesque 6ft 2in blonde advises Carmen on how to deal with her famous father and life in the spotlight. 'Remember that your parents will always love you,' Ireland urges. 'As a kid, you forget that sometimes. When they are screaming about this and bickering about that. It hurts. Words of wisdom: The model passed down advice to Carmen in the letter posted on her Tumblr on Friday New parents: Ireland's father Alec and stepmother Hilaria, pictured August 10, announced the birth on Friday And the precocious teenager also advises to be careful who to trust when 'you have parents who are in the public eye.' She explains: 'A lot of people are going to want to be your friend because of it. Don't buy everyone dinner or tickets to the One Direction reunion concert because you feel obligated to do it. Make sure your friends love you for who YOU are, Carmen. NO other reason.' Ireland is clearly already feeling protective of her sister and has lots to say on the matter of alcohol and marijuana. Pouting: Ireland, 17, appeared to be grumpy on Thursday when she posted this picture on Twitter Loved up: Ireland, who shared this photo of herself and boyfriend Slater Trout last week, had lots to say on the subject of boys 'When you want to try your first drink, it should be with me,' Ireland says, adding: 'Don't be that girl that gets wasted at parties and crawls on bathroom floors. It ain't cute.' The model goes on: 'As for weed, don't smoke it at a party. Be somewhere safe. With people you trust. Like in a treehouse with me and pizza hut…I… I mean friends. Not me. Ha. I'll be like… 40…. But I'll still come anyway.' Ireland is currently loved up with boyfriend Slater Trout and naturally has some sagacity to pass down on the subject of boys. 'Just remember, always look for someone who respects you,' Ireland writes. 'Someone who loves you for the beautiful soul that you possess. Never let a boy abuse you. Physically or verbally. Ready to pop: Yoga instructor Hilaria is seen here on Wednesday, two days before the birth of Carmen Gabriela 'The moment a boy messes with you, he will be very sorry. Between Dad and I…OH IT'S ON. But in all seriousness, be with a boy who treats you like you are his world.' She adds: 'You are going to have your pick of the boys, believe me. But I have to approve of them.' Alec, 55, and his 29-year-old yoga instructor wife joyfully announced the birth of their baby girl on Friday evening in New York. 'We are overjoyed to announce the birth of our daughter Carmen Gabriela,' Hilaria tweeted. 'She is absolutely perfect.' OMG Football team murdered schoolboy Rhys Jones played for is disbanded after op Posted: 24 Aug 2013 12:00 PM PDT Football fanatic: Rhys Jones, 11, who was shot dead aged 11 after being caught up in gang violence as he walked home from football practice in 2007 The football team of murdered Rhys Jones has been forced to disband after opponents threatened to shoot his old team mates. Steve Geoghegan, coach of Fir Tree FC in Liverpool, stepped down as manager of the team after becoming disgusted with on-pitch aggression and violence. Mr Geoghegan, 54, who is a close friend of Rhys's parents Stephen and Melanie Jones, revealed his horror after an opponent threatened to shoot his players during a match. Mr Jones, 49, described the comments on the pitch as 'appalling' and has supported the coach's decision to step down from his role. Mr Geoghegan, a social care worker, told The Sun: 'All the current kids are coming up to 18 now and as they get older the arguments on the pitch get worse. I'm not doing it any longer.' Eleven-year-old Rhys was shot dead by gang member Sean Mercer as he walked back from football practice across the car park of Croxteth's Fir Tree pub in August 2007. Mercer, then 16, was firing at rival gang members when a bullet ricochet off a wall and struck Rhys. Since the killing, Fir Tree FC have travelled across Europe to spread an anti-violence message, urging youngsters to 'join a team, not a gang'. But Mr Geoghan says that despite their efforts problems have remained. In one terrifying episode that occurred after a row over a tackle one team threatened to come back and shoot his players, he said. 'They were about 14 or 15 and they ran across the pitch and hurled a volley of abuse at the parents and threatened to come back and shoot them,' he said. 'It wasn't taken lightly, given what happened to Rhys.' 'Appalling': Rhys's parents Melanie and Stephen Jones outside court after Sean Mercer was convicted of their son's murder. Mr Jones said he felt players were copying the violent behaviour from top-level football Rhys's father, Mr Jones, added: 'It's such a shame that this is still going on and it's incredibly dangerous behaviour. 'Mainly because these youngsters can get out of control and end up carrying out the threats because of some sense of bravado - that's when it ruins lives. 'Steve's the man that's been running the teams and he's had to deal with some shocking and appalling threats and actual violence on the pitch. 'He's the man that was taking the brunt of it so it's ultimately his decision. They'll still be running an under-eights side but sadly these things come to an end. 'A lot of it stems from top level football and sadly we see it at these levels and it has forced our son's old club to close down.' Rhys was shot dead by Sean Mercer as he walked the car park of Croxteth's Fir Tree pub in August 2007. Mercer, then 16, was firing at rival gang members when a bullet ricocheted off a wall and struck Rhys Mercer was convicted of Rhys's murder in 2009, when he was 18, and sentenced life with a minimum term of 22 years before he could even be considered for parole. He had been trying to shoot rivals from the Strand Gang who had strayed onto his turf. Rhys was shot with a First World War Smith and Wesson revolver, and a gang-member was caught trying to buy a replacement weapon just weeks later. Four other gang members were jailed for helping Mercer try to cover up his involvement in the shooting. And Mercer's mother Janette received a three-year jail sentence for denying all knowledge of the distinctive mountain bike her teenage son was riding when he shot Rhys. |
UPDATE ON Ese walter`s affair claim!!! She writes to JESUS!!! READ Posted: 24 Aug 2013 11:56 AM PDT Dear Jesus, I think I have erred this long because instead of getting to know you, I chose to pretend I already knew you. Perhaps it was because everyone acted the same and I didn't want to feel left out. Maybe I had heard about you too long to say I didn't know you. The truth however is, I really didn't know you. It was impossible to fathom your love or why you would give it to a stubborn like me. Everywhere I went to find comfort and a way to relate to you, I was deceived. The people, the church, the pastors, the messengers of peace…. All were out for their own selfish gains. After trying to understand what it meant to hear someone say "Jesus saved me,' I finally gave up. After moving from gatherings to gatherings I started to realize most of the words that proceeded from the mouth of the saints were mere words with no meaning. It was a damn religious circle and I was done with it. Then there were the 'mantles' in form of handkerchiefs, anointing oils, gimmicks, dead works, pride in men who claimed to work for you and are generally referred to as 'men of God.' Reverence that bothered on fear for human beings, blind following of the pew, sexual immorality amongst pastors and their members, greed, politics in the affairs of the church and the list goes on and on. I really was sick of it all Lord. So, I gave up. I didn't mean to quit but something in me had seen enough and I didn't want to be a part of the whole charade. In an attempt to keep my sanity, I ran. Further and further from your people and also from You. I ran right back to the mud you brought me from. I ran back to the familiar. I ran back to a system that was real and thriving and even though it didn't fill the void I felt on the inside of me, it numbed the pain. It was good to be with people who didn't pretend to believe what they didn't understand. It felt safe to know that I wasn't ever going to need to say "Jesus saved me" without fully understanding what that meant. I found peace with people who were real enough to say, 'I want to live my life as I please and not have to account for nothing.' It was easier to stay home on Sunday mornings than gather with a set of people who couldn't understand why I didn't fit in or who looked down their noses at me when I wore something they considered 'unholy' to the 'house of God.'In all, it was great I was pushed out. It was great I stayed away from all the drama, stories, lies, greed, judgment and what not that pervaded 'your house.' Above it all, it was great I started to feel empty again. This emptiness drove me to a deeper search for meaning. It drove me to me. It drove me to search the scriptures for myself, perhaps for the first time. And most excitedly, it drove me to You. As I grow in knowing you Jesus, I realize that more and more of my authentic self begins to emerge. I realize that it's not so hard forgiving those who have hurt me. I realize that I don't have to be like everyone else or judge people. All I need to do is accept your love, your gift of salvation and rest in it. I have no intention of 'spiricoco-ing' up neither do I point fingers at the way people choose to live but I have made up my own mind to embrace the light you bring and by my living, show others just how simple it is. Because of my experiences and the way I keep surviving, I am gentler with others and myself. I don't fully understand my process yet, but I am learning to see me the way your word says you see me. I am attracting into my space, people, circumstances and events that are putting me right on the path I want to travel. Today I say thank you. Thank you for staying with me like you said you would. Thank you for your Spirit that leads and guides me into all truth and continues to lead me even when I insist on holding on to a lie. Thank you for not allowing me die before my time. Thank you for the hope and assurance in my heart. Thank you for helping me develop a stronger sense of purpose. Thank you for the tender heart I have. Thank you for my LA187 family, they have helped me in more ways than they could ever imagine. Thank you for my biological family who aren't perfect but are just right for me. Thank you for peace, joy, love, understanding and the ability to empathize. Thank you for health, for soundness of mind and complete functioning body parts. Thank you for your blood that speaks better things than the blood of bulls or goats (my mind is still trying to comprehend what all that slaughtering was about back then though) lol.I am coming back to the heart of worship Jesus and it's always been about you. As I continue on my path, please continue to keep me. For the most part, I don't know what I am doing but I intend to stay true to the 'knowing' in my heart. At the end of my time here, let me say "I fought the good fight, I finished the course, I kept the faith. Yours in service, Ese Walter. |

Read President Jonathan's Speech On Facebook Posted: 24 Aug 2013 11:40 AM PDT ''In 2011, I made a promise to the people of Nigeria that every zone of our great nation would have an international airport. A little over two years to the day I made that promise we are witnessing the inaugural international flight from the Akanu Ibiam International airport, Enugu. As I said during my inaugural address, "the time for lamentation is over; this is the era of transformation". Our rail infrastructure is being brought back on track and expanded; our road networks are receiving attention even as we insist on getting them wider and better. As some of you may have noticed, the aviation sector is being overhauled so as to make flying accessible to the average Nigerian. Let me use this occasion to encourage all patriots to remain resolute in our collective pursuit of development and happiness. We must make progress together and no Citizen, no Community in our Country will be left behind. Our determination to ensure developmental justice in ALL the zones shall remain unshakable. GEJ'' |
Man, 24, grabbed by a huge crocodile and killed while swimming in infested waters in Australia Posted: 24 Aug 2013 11:35 AM PDT A 24-year-old man who ignored warnings to stay out of a river in northern Australia is feared to have been killed by a huge crocodile. A shocked friend told staff at a caravan and camping park east of Darwin that the man and a friend jumped into the crocodile-infested Mary River for a swim on Saturday (local time), ignoring all warnings. The friend then watched helplessly as a huge crocodile grabbed hold of the man and pulled him under. Lethal: Saltwater crocodiles pull their victims to the riverbed and roll them around until they drown, before partially eating them - and storing the rest for later The victim has not been seen since. Northern Watch Commander Peter Lindfield said water police were on the scene searching for the missing man with the help of Parks and Wildlife rangers in the hope that he might have been able to break free from the crocodile's jaws and swim to the river bank. Miss Erin Baynard, who works at the Mary River Wilderness Retreat and Caravan Park, said the friend reported the incident around 4pm. She said the two men went swimming somewhere between the accommodation block and the nearby Arnhem Highway bridge but she was unsure exactly where, and that they would have been well aware of the dangers of venturing into the water. 'The friend came back in deep shock and it was obvious just by looking at him that something bad had happened,' she said. 'He was saying over and over that a crocodile had taken his friend. Idyllic: The Mary River, where the attack took place, is a popular destination for campers east of Darwin 'The tragedy here is that everybody knows that the river is dangerous - there are more crocs in it than any other river in the Northern Territory. 'We tell everybody not to go into the water because of the lurking danger.' A few small groups of campers remained by the river. 'There's nothing much I can say, it's just a tragedy,' one of the campers said. The saltwater crocodiles of the Northern Territory are among the deadliest species on earth, likened in their ferocity to the great white shark. 'Salties', as they are known, will pull their victims to the bottom of a river and roll them around until they drown before eating part of them. They then 'store' the remainder of the victim in some underwater area to be consumed later. The last fatal crocodile attack in the Northern Territory was in December 2012, when a nine-year-old boy was killed near Dhania, 100km south of Nhulunbuy, when he was swimming with a group. Adults tried to save the boy but the crocodile dragged him into deeper water. Infested: The calm waters hide the hundreds of crocodile living in the Mary River Community members turned out to have been feeding 13ft-long crocodile with fish and wallaby carcasses for several years. ]In November 2012 a seven-year-old girl was killed by a crocodile at Gumarrirngbang outstation, near Maningrida. Three other people, including two children, have been killed by crocodiles since 2009. |
