Kenny wrote on his Facebook page about how he was molested at almost 10 by his class teacher's room mate. What amazed him that day was that the lady called him handsome unlike his siblings and mom who always called him daft and when they were in good mood, they would call him dumb. Obasanjo’s letter: Danjuma says no public comment for now

Posted: 22 Dec 2013 08:19 AM PST

Former Nigeria's defence minister, General Theophilus Danjuma said he would not make a public comment on the 18 page letter that Nigeria's former leader, Olusegun Obasanjo sent to President Goodluck Jonathan.
In a report by Punch online, Danjuma, who is also one of Nigeria's richest men, said there was no need to go public on the issue because he had unfettered access to the president and would speak with him "face to face."
Danjuma said, "The press have been after me; they want me to react to what Obasanjo said about Mr. President (Goodluck Jonathan) and I told them that I have complete access to the President. And if I have anything to say to him, I will do so face to face.
General TY Danjuma: no comments for now
General TY Danjuma: no comments for now
"These are very difficult times and we must be careful, especially as leaders, of what we say in public."
Obasanjo had said in the letter that he sent a copy to Danjuma, among other elders in the country.
But the PUNCH reported former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.) as cautioning Nigerian leaders not to make public utterances that could create chaos in the polity.
Gowon, like Danjuma spoke in separate goodwill messages at the 6th edition of the Abuja Festival of Praise held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, on Friday.
Gowon advised Nigerians, especially past and present leaders, against saying things that could further destabilise the nation.

He said Nigerians would be the ones to suffer, if there was no peace in the country.
Gowon said, "Let all Nigerians — the leadership and the followership — make sure that we do not make utterances or say things that can really create problems for the leadership and for the country because if that happens, if we listen to such utterances, there shall be no peace and we will be the sufferers for it.
"I want all of us as faithfuls to bear in mind that this country needs peace and this peace can only come from all of us, the leadership — past and present — and from all of us. We must play our part to ensure that there is peace in the country."
He explained that this became necessary in view of recent happenings in the country.
Obasanjo had in an open letter to Jonathan accused him of paying lip service to corruption and pursing personal interest instead of that of the ruling People's Democratic Party.
He also demanded that the President come clean of allegations that he was training snipers, while placing 1,000 people on a watch list.

Dino Melaye Estranged Wife Family Releases Prove Of Physical Abuse! [PHOTOS]

Posted: 22 Dec 2013 07:47 AM PST

Tokunbo Melaye's family have responded to the statement Dino Melaye released a few days ago on his divorce, and explained why this case is important for gender rights in Nigeria. Statement below

On the 18th of December, Mr. Gbenga (Dino) Melaye released a statement through a certain Toyin Akande (Esq), addressing the divorce proceedings filed by Tokunbo Melaye (nee Fabiyi). Mr. Akande is purportedly a lawyer and a family friend. Tokunbo, who was Mr. Melaye's wife for over a decade is not aware of any family friend or lawyer who bears this name.

The statement that was released on Mr. Melaye's behalf was filled with malicious falsehoods aimed at deflecting attention from the very serious allegations of physical assault, psychological abuse and emotional trauma that Dino Melaye has inflicted on Tokunbo over the last decade. (A battered Tokunbo pictured above. Continue)

Our preference as a family has always been for this issue to have been maintained as a private matter because of the three wonderful children that Tokunbo and Dino had together. Since Mr. Melaye has chosen to publicly malign Tokunbo's image, and to impugn her character, we are constrained to respond to his recent statement, so that our silence is not construed to be consent.

We are aware that Mr. Melaye is a master of manipulation, and is extremely adept at using the press to his own advantage. For far too long, his deceptions have been allowed to go unchallenged by the Nigerian press. For over a decade, Mr. Melaye has muzzled Tokunbo's voice. But truth is a persistent flame that cannot be forever extinguished. Tokunbo is not one of the numerous women of easy virtue that are Mr. Melaye's stock in trade. Neither is she one of the government officials that Mr. Melaye regularly harangues for his own gain.  Tokunbo is a loving mother of three lovely children, and she was until September 25th, 2013 a dutiful wife to Mr. Melaye.

Mr. Melaye's statement had four broad themes which we will address in turn:

1.       Mr. Melaye denied ever being violent to Tokunbo, and dared Tokunbo to show proof of any assault during their decade long marriage.

2.       Mr. Melaye denied owning any "ammunition" and conceded that a police search of his office and premises took place in Tokunbo's presence on Nov 4th.

3.       Mr. Melaye insinuated that the three lovely and innocent children of their union, whom he (Dino) had prevented Tokunbo from seeing since September 25th, 2013, were with their mother, and that he only had "supervised access to them."

4.       Mr. Melaye claimed that Tokunbo was being used by his "political enemies", and that she had "stolen" a car and other sundries from him and given it to her "lovers"

Proof of Mr. Melaye's History of Assault

1.       The Nigerian public is aware that Mr. Melaye has the unique distinction of being the first Legislator in our political history to turn the National Assembly into a boxing ring. It should not be too difficult to imagine what the private conduct will be, of a man who saw no issues with turning a hallowed legislative chamber into an arena of violence in full view of 160 million Nigerians. If the public Mr. Melaye is garrulous and prone to violence, the private Mr. Melaye, free from the prying eyes of outsiders, is an unfettered beast.

2.       Abusers do not believe that their victims are bold enough to document their abuse. What they forget however is that others who love and care for those victims can detail the abuse on their behalf. A number of the assaults inflicted on Tokunbo over the years have required hospitalization, and in one case, reconstructive surgery to Tokunbo's nose after Dino battered her. Every hospital dutifully places a record of each visit in a patient's medical files. We have obtained certified copies of the records in Tokunbo's medical files from two attacks – in 2005 and 2010 and these have been attached to this letter.

3.       We are also glad to oblige Mr. Melaye's challenge for proof with the attached pictorial evidence of his extensive history of abuse towards Tokunbo, from a vicious attack on her on Oct 1st, 2010. While Nigeria was celebrating its 50th independence anniversary, a man who is supposedly a conscience of the nation, was busy attacking his own wife with a wood plank.

4.       The only reason why there are pictures from the 2010 assault was because Tokunbo's brothers were in Abuja on the day in question and had rushed down to meet her at the Wuse Zone 3 Police Station which is close to their home, where she had fled to escape Mr. Melaye's assault. Tokunbo's brothers were present when the police took her statement, and were present when Tokunbo was accompanied by a police constable to Wuse Hospital for the treatment of wounds to her arms, sustained as she attempted to protect her head from being hit by a wood plank Mr. Melaye was assaulting her with.

5.       Mr. Melaye's shameful cowardice is also on record. After Tokunbo's wounds were treated on Oct 1st, we (her brothers) went to Mr. Melaye's residence to find out why he had assaulted our sister. On seeing us, the man who was a wood plank wielding warrior to a defenseless woman, took to his heels, asked his guards to lock his gates from the inside, and was reduced to peeping through a curtain.  Mr. Melaye then placed a call to the police to report that "armed robbers" were at his home. The police response team that came was comprised of some of the officers from Wuse Zone 3 police post that we had met when Tokunbo had gone to make her statement. They immediately recognized us when they arrived, and left in disgust and disbelief that the distress call came from Mr. Melaye. The police can verify all these facts from their records.

Possession of a Gun vs. Possession of Ammunition & Claims of Arrest for Anti-Corruption Activities on Nov 4th

1.       Why did Tokunbo stay with Dino Melaye for over a decade? We are a Christian family. As people of faith, we believe in God's ability to change men and circumstances. That is how we were brought up. We were also taught that you should fight for the ones you love.

2.       Tokunbo stayed and endured all that Dino did to her, because of her faith in God's ability to change him and her belief that marriage is an institution that is sacrosanct. Above all, she stayed because of her children – all of whom she loves greatly. Mr. Melaye had made it clear to her over the years that if she ever left him, he would ensure that she never saw her children again.

3.       Tokunbo only filed for divorce when the assaults from Dino escalated to the level of having a gun pulled on her. A man who had broken a laptop on her head, attacked her with a wooden plank, broken her nose to the extent that it required surgery, beaten her to the point of miscarriage of one pregnancy, assaulted her to the point where her last child was almost born preterm and she required Cervical Cerclage (suturing of the cervix) to prevent the loss of that pregnancy, would certainly have no problems with something as simple as pulling a trigger. When Mr. Melaye threatened to kill her and declared that "You will die and nothing will come of it. I am untouchable," Tokunbo knew that she would be killed if she returned to Mr. Melaye's home.

4.       We obviously do not expect that Mr. Melaye will admit to owning a gun. Interestingly his public statement did not deny that he owned a gun, but rather that he did not have "any ammunition" and that "no gun was found" when the police searched his home and offices on Nov 4th. The distinction between Mr. Melaye's complete denial of owning ammunition (i.e., bullets) and his statement that "no gun was found" is important.  Certainly, Mr. Melaye knows the difference between the words "Gun" and "ammunition"

5.       Mr. Melaye admitted that there was a search of his residence and office on Nov 4th 2013 in Tokunbo's presence. Yet, he lied to the press and Nigerians, when he claimed that the police search on that date was in relation to his "anti-corruption activities". We call on the press to stop allowing themselves to be unwittingly used as tools by people like Mr. Melaye who can, and will do anything to remain in the public eye.

Whereabouts of the Children

1.       Mr. Melaye insinuated in his statement that the three children of their union are with Tokunbo, and that he has only supervised access to them. According to him: "He (Dino Melaye) is content though PAINED to see his kids only at visits fully controlled by her (Tokunbo Fabiyi)." This statement has been interpreted by some as an indication that the children are in Tokunbo's care and custody. We wish to categorically state that this is a patent falsehood.

2.       Mr. Melaye has prevented Tokunbo from seeing her children since September 25th, 2013. From September 25th to November 12th, Tokunbo's only means of contacting the children was to go to their school – Tender Years Preparatory School - and spend a few precious moments with them after their classes. When Mr. Melaye found out Tokunbo was seeing her children in school, he requested that the school should prevent Tokunbo from seeing them. The School Principal worked out what she thought was a reasonable arrangement that allowed Tokunbo to see her children about three times a week for 10 minutes each (see attached letter).

3.       Even this arrangement, lopsided as it was against the mother of the children, was not satisfactory to Mr. Melaye. He stopped the children from going to school from Wednesday November 13th  to Tuesday November 19th. It took Tokunbo's entreaties to some family friends to get Mr. Melaye to allow the children back to school. The kids started going to school again on Wednesday November 20th. Mr. Melaye went to the school with a group of thugs and threatened the Principal that he would "scatter" the school if Tokunbo was allowed to see the children again.  Since that date, the school has prevented Tokunbo from coming on the school premises. Tokunbo has therefore not seen her children since November 12th.

4.       As late as Dec 13th 2013, Dino Melaye's lawyer was in a mediatory session organized by FIDA (Federacion Internacional De Abogados, or the International Federation of Women Lawyers) at their Abuja office. One of the major topics of discussion at that meeting was the custody of the children. All the participants at that meeting, including Mr. Melaye's counsel and the FIDA mediation committee will be able to verify that Mr. Melaye has complete and total custody of the children, and has denied Tokunbo access to them since November 12th.

5.       We encourage the Press to follow up on these issues if they are truly interested in knowing the truth.

Associating with Dino's "Political Enemies", Giving of a car to a "young lover"

1.       Tokunbo Melaye (nee Fabiyi) is not a politician, and has no interest in politics. This case is simply about getting justice. It is ironic that a man who purports to be the "voice of the masses" and a defender of the rights of Nigerians denies basic human rights to his own wife. Dino Melaye's constant physical and psychological battery of Tokunbo, and his use of their innocent children as pawns constitutes serious and egregious human rights abuse.

2.       We challenge Mr. Melaye to show evidence of any discussion, meeting, or association between Tokunbo and any of his so-called political enemies. We challenge Mr. Melaye to name names. A man who can openly and maliciously accuse his wife of infidelity should have no qualms naming the so-called enemies that his wife is supposed to have been cavorting with. Since Mr. Melaye claims Tokunbo has collected monies from his enemies, let him tell Nigerians who these political enemies are that Tokunbo has allegedly collected money from. We also give permission to any Bankers who have access to any of Tokunbo's accounts to let the world know if Tokunbo Melaye (nee Fabiyi) has any Bank account that has any sums of money lodged beyond her salary as a Civil Servant. We assure them that we as a family have waived all rights to privacy that Tokunbo has to her Bank accounts. We wonder if Mr. Melaye would be bold enough to open himself up to the same scrutiny of his finances.

3.       Knowing how infidelity by women is frowned upon in our culture, Mr. Melaye in a calculated move to discredit Tokunbo, claimed that she "gave a brand new car" Mr. Melaye gave her to her "young lover." Let him tell Nigerians the make and model of the car that Tokunbo supposedly gave to a "young lover," and let him tell us what the identity of this "young lover" is.  Since he claims to have seen his possessions on Tokunbo's  "lovers" it must mean he "knows" them. We challenge him to name these so called lovers.  We warn Mr. Melaye in advance, that should he attempt to muddle the waters with fictitious names and characters, or paid bearers of false witness, our family will deploy every resource at our disposal towards further exposing every single falsehood perpetrated by Mr. Melaye or his proxies.

4.       What does it say of a man's character if he has no qualms, and no moral dilemma about making up deliberate falsehoods about a woman that he called his wife, and the mother of his children? One day, those children will be old enough to read their father's calculated and wicked allegations against their mother. God, and they, will judge Mr. Melaye. We are confident that truth, even though crushed to the earth, shall always rise again.

5.       Mr. Melaye believes that by smearing Tokunbo with allegations of infidelity he can turn the tide of opinion against her in the court of public opinion – which is the only court that matters to Mr. Melaye. Because he has established a fairly lucrative career as a politician and "activist", all that counts in his world, is what people think of him. For Tokunbo, however, all that matters is the truth. Does Mr. Melaye really expect Nigerians to believe that his wife did all these things that he alleges in his letter, and still remained in his house for over ten years? He must really take Nigerians for fools. It is not our family's style to trade petty allegations and frivolities with people like Mr. Melaye. We will therefore not even bother to go into the litany of cases of Mr. Melaye's infidelity. The odious public records of his serial indiscretions are there for all to see.

6.       If there is anyone using this sad case for political gain, it is Mr. Melaye. He went out publicly on Nov 4th to claim that he had been arrested by the police because of the Stella Oduah case, while in fact, the police had gone to his office and residence in response to Tokunbo's report to the police of his threat to her life.  Mr. Melaye publicly declared in all the newspaper and blog reports about the police visit of Nov 4th that "the two police officers just told me that they have a warrant of arrest on me with a charge of criminal intimidation and threat to life but they did not tell me who I intimidated and threatened." The truth was that Tokunbo was right there with the police officers, and he admitted that she was present during the search of his premises in his own public statement. Yet Mr. Melaye was bold enough to come before Nigerians to tell them that he had no idea why the police had been in his office and at his home on Nov 4th. Most Nigerians put the news of that arrest down to Mr. Melaye's "fight" with Stella Oduah, which was exactly what Mr. Melaye hoped would happen.

7.       Mr. Melaye's puerile and childish attempt to try to defuse his well known cases of infidelity and indecency by besmirching Tokunbo's reputation, has failed woefully. Tokunbo Melaye (nee Fabiyi) is a well brought up, Christian woman. She has borne this cross with dignity, she has been long suffering, and she has persevered. We are proud of her – for being a survivor. Tokunbo has displayed a strength and resilience that we did not know she had. Her body might have been bruised and battered by Mr. Melaye, but her spirit is strong and unbroken. She is a better person for all that she has endured. Although we could not understand it at first, we now see why she could not bear to leave her children in Mr. Melaye's hands, and as a consequence chose to remain in an abusive relationship. No child should be left in the hands of a man with no character, no moral compass, no awareness of historical consequences, and no sense of common decency.

Why this case is important to Gender Rights in Nigeria

1.       Nigeria remains a patriarchal society with laws and cultural leanings that continue to be lopsided against females. A mother's maternal instinct makes her likely to place the welfare and wellbeing of her children above her own. That wonderful instinct is also a woman's greatest vulnerability. It also leaves her open to abuse in the hands of men willing to exploit a mother's maternal instinct.

2.       There are certain pertinent questions that we must ask ourselves as a nation: Why can a man ask the proprietress of a school to prevent his wife from seeing her children, without a court order to that effect? Why should a man have more parental rights than a woman? Why should the burden of proof always be on the woman? Why are we quick to blame women for abuse – believing that they must have done something to deserve it? Why are we quick to judge them if they stay in abusive relationships, and why are we also ready to condemn them if they leave for not being patient? Why do we ignore the reality that spousal abuse is a real issue in this country? How many women like Tokunbo are out there, silently, quietly, bearing the burden of abuse alone? Fearful that they will lose their children if they speak out. Fearful that they will be judged for the failure of their marriages. Fearful that they will not find justice in our laws or in our courts.

3.       Tokunbo has been able to stand for herself now, only because of her faith and the support of her family. How many women are out there who do not have the type of family support that Tokunbo has? How many abused women can defend themselves in the press, or hire lawyers to take up their case? Must they continue to fight and to suffer alone? Must they continue to bear this crushing burden all by themselves?

4.       When this case began, Dino Melaye declared that Tokunbo would never see her children again, and that any case she thought she had would be destroyed after "he worked his magic on the press." Certainly, Mr. Melaye who was once Chairman of the House Committee on Media and who had legislative oversight over the Nigerian media has many friends in the press. By failing to scrutinize Mr. Melaye, the Nigerian press has been an unwitting accomplice in perpetuating Mr. Melaye's abuse and falsehoods. The Nigerian press has always been on the side of the oppressed. In this case, we do not expect any favors – we only ask that the press should dig deeper, follow leads, ask questions, talk to the doctors mentioned in the reports, talk to the police and come to their own conclusions about what is really going on.

5.       As this case moves out of the court of public opinion, to the court of law, our family has already started to work on ensuring that all abused women – not just Tokunbo - are given a voice. We want to ensure that their tears will no longer be shed in the dark, alone. Their voices will no longer be muffled. Their pain must become our collective pain.  No nation that tolerates the abuse of its mothers and daughters can progress.

Stephen Keshi Will drop dead before 2014, Rotimi Amaechi Will drop dead Before 2015- Prophet Marcus Tibetan

Posted: 22 Dec 2013 07:31 AM PST

As the political battle towards 2015 gathers momentum, a Lagos-based clergyman, Prophet Marcus Tibetan has revealed that President Goodluck Jonathan would not contest the 2015 general elections.

Speaking with journalists in Lagos while unfolding his predictions for 2014, Prophet Tibetan said that some powerful forces in the country would conspire to force Mr. Jonathan to drop his 2015 ambition just as he prophesied that the Peoples' Democratic Party,  PDP, will win the elections.

Tibetan said, "PDP will win but not with Jonathan. PDP has no trouble within it. Jonathan will not contest. God told me that the generals have concluded on Jonathan."

He also urged former the immediate past governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel to pray hard against political persecution that would lead to his being jailed for corrupt practices, just as he also asked another former governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala to watch against paralysis being visited upon him.

The clergyman also advised Rivers State governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to pray against premature death as the country approaches 2015, saying the forces that eliminated a former national vice-chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, Marshall Harry, might also do the same to him.

On the 2014 FIFA World Cup holding in Brazil, Tibetan predicted that the Super Eagles would reach the semi-finals, but prayed that nothing negative would happen to the national coach of the team, Mr Stephen Keshi, in the build up to the mundial.

"We are going to make a lot of achievements in sports. We will do well at the World Cup, if they [those in authority] should allow [Stephen] Keshi to perform his duty.

"But my prayer is that Keshi should not drop dead before that time. If nothing happens to him, we will reach the semi-finals", he said.

New secret justice scandal: Pakistani student forces woman with mental age of seven to have his baby - so he can stay in the UK

Posted: 22 Dec 2013 05:41 AM PST

A British woman with the mental age of a child was forced to marry a Pakistani immigrant and have his baby so that he could gain the right to live in Britain.
A secret court heard that the 37-year-old, who has a reading age of seven, was slapped around the face by her mother to make her smile for her wedding photograph.
The judge's ruling, seen by The Mail on Sunday, reveals that fears were raised she was being 'manipulated' and her parents were being paid £20,000 to marry off their daughter to the Muslim student, who was facing deportation.Judgment: A British woman with the mental age of a child was forced to marry a Pakistani immigrant and have his baby so that he could gain the right to live in Britain, the court of protection was told
But despite concerns, registrars allowed the ceremony to go ahead and the woman's husband, 33, is now using his human right to a family life as a reason to remain in the UK, despite the 'grossly cruel' ploy.
The case came to light in the Court of Protection – which has the power to make life-or-death decisions on behalf of people deemed to lack mental capacity – and can be revealed today after an anonymised judgment was published.
The judge in the case, Mrs Justice Parker, said: 'I think there is a very significant possibility that this marriage was entered into, and indeed this child created, for reasons solely to do with immigration status.'

She added: 'To put an incapacitated person in a position whereby she bears a child which she cannot look after is grossly cruel.'
The case has lifted the lid on the grim exploitation of people with severe mental health problems who are being 'groomed' and then forced into marriage for passports, money or free care.

Crime Prevention Minister Norman Baker told The Mail on Sunday last night: 'To force anyone into  marriage without their consent or the capacity to consent is wrong and is a serious abuse of human rights.'
The court was told that the British woman, who had been a Sikh but later converted to Islam, had been married and divorced twice before.
In 2011, she entered into a Muslim marriage with the man from Lahore, who was facing deportation after his student visa ran out and an appeal was rejected.
She became pregnant 'almost immediately' and the following year they were about to have a civil wedding in a register office when social services tried to stop the ceremony.
The UK Border Agency was also informed by registrars of suspicions that there was 'money changing hands' and the husband's immigration status was the reason for the wedding. Registrars also said the woman was 'confused about her husband's name' and spoke in a  'simplistic way'.
The judge said 'an anonymous informant' had telephoned the register office to state that the woman's father 'had received £20,000 in consideration of the marriage', but the judge added this was 'hearsay' and she could not establish if it was true.
The woman's family produced an opinion from a local doctor claiming that she did understand what marriage meant, but the judge said he 'may have had some connection with the family' and the doctor is now under investigation by a medical watchdog over the report.
A senior registrar was 'concerned about being seen not to have taken into account the cultural background and [the woman's] right to marry and found a family', according to the judge, so the ceremony was allowed to go ahead in February 2012.  During the event, the woman's mother 'slapped her on the face to get her to smile for a photograph' and the registrar was 'worried about her demeanour'.
Mrs Justice Parker said it was  'difficult for me to be clear' why the wedding was allowed to go ahead. She called for registrars to be given better guidance on how to spot the signs of people with learning disabilities being forced into marriage. The General Register Office is now considering the request.
The couple went on to have a baby boy but social workers had to become involved as the mother  cannot look after him safely, the court heard. Carers who have lived with them painted a 'worrying picture' in which the husband is distant from his wife, rarely speaks to her and 'walks ahead of her with the baby in his arms'.
'In reality another child': Mrs Justice Parker ruled that the woman in the case could not consent to sex, marriage or where she lived
'In reality another child': Mrs Justice Parker ruled that the woman in the case could not consent to sex, marriage or where she lived

The man told the court he now wants to be rehoused in a two-bedroom flat, with social workers visiting for two hours every morning and evening so he can 'go to the mosque and also to pray at home'.
'I was left with a very strong doubt as to what his true commitment and ability was to providing full-time seven-day care to the baby,' the judge said.
Mrs Justice Parker added the woman was 'being used' and was 'in reality another child'.
Last year, the woman suffered a broken jaw, supposedly by yawning, but the judge said that this was 'most unlikely'.
After the judge's ruling that the woman could not consent to sex, marriage or where she lived, the husband and the baby are likely to be rehoused separately by the council.
The couple's marriage has not been annulled, nor have divorce proceedings begun, but the judge said that in the husband's view 'all pretence this is or could be a functioning marriage has now evaporated'.
A total of 114 people with disabilities were helped by the Government's Forced Marriage Unit last year, but it is feared this is just the tip of the iceberg.
A new law is to make forced marriage illegal but cases involving people with learning disabilities rarely come to light, because the victims may be unable or unwilling to report the abuse.
Human rights activist Mandy Sanghera said: 'Forced marriage of people with learning disabilities is often hidden. We need to be clear about protection – we can't let political correctness and cultural sensitivities get in the way of this.'
Although the judge ordered that none of those involved can be named to preserve the anonymity of the woman, in other cases the parties have been identified. Critics said it meant the registrars, who faced criticism for not stopping the wedding, could not be held to account.

Activist linked to Lee Rigby killer has passport confiscated: Leader of Islamic pressure group stopped at Heathrow Airport amid claims of terrorism,

Posted: 22 Dec 2013 05:34 AM PST

Links to killer: Moazzam Begg, was formerly held in Guantanamo Bay, and was stripped of his passport earlier this week
The head of an Islamic pressure group linked to one of Lee Rigby's murderers has been stripped of his passport amid claims that he is involved in terrorism.
Moazzam Begg, a former inmate of Guantanamo Bay, was stopped at Heathrow Airport last week after returning from a visit to South Africa.
He was told that it was 'not in  the public interest' for him to keep his passport as the Home Office suspected him of being involved in terrorist activities following his visit to Syria last year.

The move came two days before Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale were convicted. Mr Begg's group, CagePrisoners, had been working with Adebolajo and his family.
The killer had gone to the charity's East London headquarters last year to seek assistance, complaining that  he and his brother Jeremiah were being harassed by the security services.
However, as The Mail on Sunday revealed in June, MI6 paid Jeremiah thousands of pounds as part of spying operations in the Middle East.
Last night Mr Begg said he believed the Home Office was trying to discredit him after he gave evidence to an inquiry into Britain's alleged complicity in rendition and torture - and that his passport seizure had nothing to do with the Woolwich murders.
'I didn't meet him [Adebolajo], it was other people at CagePrisoners who met him,' he said.
'I have consistently been asking for the intelligence and security services to be held to account for complicity in torture and rendition. It is more logical that is the reason I've had my passport confiscated.'
Mr Begg said that he gave evidence to Sir Peter Gibson, who last week concluded that British agents had turned a 'blind eye' to the torture of detainees in foreign jails.
Mr Begg told The Mail on Sunday that he was stopped after returning from South Africa to commemorate the death of Nelson Mandela. He said he was pulled to one side by two plainclothes security officials who said that 'having a passport was not a right and that they were using Royal Prerogative powers to take it away'.

A Home Office order given to Mr Begg stated that it was not in the public interest for him to have a passport as he had been assessed as being involved in terrorist activity because of his Syria visit.
But Mr Begg told The Mail on Sunday that he had visited Aleppo to investigate the rendition and torture of Syrian and other nationals, gathering evidence against the UK and America.
He said the visit had been cleared by MI5, who thanked him for telling them about it and assured him that he would have no trouble visiting Syria.
The Home Office declined to comment on an individual case, but said the Royal Prerogative power 'disrupts individuals who seek to travel on a British passport to engage in terrorism-related or other serious criminal activity abroad which impacts on the UK'.

'Lee Rigby's killer raped me when I was 14': Young mother tells of sex-attack ordeal at the hands of teenaged Michael Adebolajo

At school: Michael Adebolajo as a teenager. A young mother has claimed that the killer of Fusilier Lee Rigby raped her when she was just 14 years old
A young mother has revealed that soldier killer Michael Adebolajo raped her when she was just 14 years old.
The victim, who is now in her 20s and living in London, said she passed out after Adebolajo drugged her with powerful cannabis, awaking from her stupor to find him on top of her.
'I have looked in his eyes and seen the evil inside him,' she told the Sunday Mirror. 'I opened my eyes and his face was less than an inch from mine. I'll never forget that moment as long as I live.
'His teeth were discoloured and wonky. His eyes seemed to be burning. He smirked and his breath smelt foul and was hot on my face.'
Self-styled soldier of Islam Adebolajo was this week convicted alongside Michael Adebowale of the brutal murder of Fusilier Lee Rigby, who was hacked to death in the street close to Woolwich barracks.
Incredibly, just two days before the kiling in May, his rape victim bumped into him in a chance encounter and he tried to force her into his car - the same vehicle used to run down the 25-year-old soldier.

She was only able to get away after pleading with him to let her go. The next she saw of him was on television, clutching a meat cleaver and ranting about why he had murdered Fusilier Rigby.
The shock of it made her confide in her mother for the first time about her rape ordeal at Adebolajo's hands when she was just a young teenager.
It was the spring of 2001 when the woman, who has chosen to tell her story but wants to remain anonymous, met Adebolajo, then 16, when both were living in Romford, Essex.
But that judgement was to change after he lured her to his house with a friend to smoke cannabis - which she says she had never tried before.
She remembers how he encouraged her to take deep drags on the potent skunk spliff he had rolled in his bedroom, until she started feeling woozy and passed out.
When she came round she found herself flat on her back on the floor, her trousers and knickers around her ankles, and Adebolajo raping her while his friend watched.
Panic-stricken, she pushed the teenager off her and yanked up her trousers before fleeing the house in tears. But when she got home she felt too ashamed about her ordeal to tell her parents, who had warned her not to hang around with Adebolajo.Bloody: A frame from the now-notorious footage of Adebolajo filmed just after he and Michael Adebowale had hacked Fusilier Lee Rigby to death in a broad daylight attack in the street near Woolwich barracks
But that wasn't the end of her abuse at Adebolajo's hands. In another chance encounter ten years later, after she had left Romford to live in London, he approached her 'all smiles' on a train station platform.
'He sat opposite me on he train and asked me what I'd been up to. Stupidly, I felt I had to talk to him,' she told the Sunday Mirror.

'Suddenly, he said loudly, "I've always wanted to f*** you." It was so embarrassing.'
She described how he then reached over and put his hand on her knee, rubbing her thigh and gradually reaching further up her leg. Despite her protestations and attempts to manoeuvre herself out of reach, he carried on.
Adebolajo bullied her into giving him her phone number - ringing it straight away to make sure she'd not given him a fake - and leaned in to kiss her on the cheek before she was able to escape.
Her final encounter with Adebolajo came in May, just two days before he and fellow Muslim convert Adebowale butchered Fusilier Rigby.
Chillingly, he pulled up alongside in the very car he was to use to run down the young soldier and told her to get into the passenger seat. Once inside, he told her in a jokey voice that he should drive off and kidnap her.
After she protested, he let her out of the vehicle, but sent a text message the next day saying they should 'have a good day out'.
The following day she was stunned to see him on the television, clutching knives in hands covered in blood, in the now notorious footage of his explaining his motives for killing Fusilier Rigby.
She said: 'I've never been able to forget what he did to me. But for what he did to that poor soldier, he deserves to rot forever.'

REVEALED! The Real Reason D'banj Canceled Koko Concert 2013!

Posted: 22 Dec 2013 05:21 AM PST

The Afro Pop singer himself made the announcement on his Twitter, explaining that the yearly concert was cancelled because of the 'Madiba Legacy Concert' which held December 18, 2013 at The Oceanview Restaurant, Victoria Island, Lagos.

'Hey Kokolets, the yearly Koko Concert has been cancelled because of the Madiba Legacy Concert happening tomorrow at the Ocean View event center!!', he wrote.
D'banj's reason for cancelling the event does sound very cheeky as we wonder how a one-day tribute concert (which he clearly did not put together) would stop him from holding his own show this December.
He has however promised to make it up to his fans by hosting three 'Koko Parties' this yuletide season. 'Not to worry I'm hosting 3 Koko parties this season for my Dear FANS', he added.
The first Koko Concert was held in the UK (2010) with the following year's holding in Nigeria. Last year, D'banj brought G.O.O.D Music acts Big Sean, Pusha T along with Tinie Tempah and Idris Elba for the concert

Mass-wedding
Kano State government has said that it spent a whooping N278. 270 million to facilitate the wedding of 1,111 couples under the fourth phase of its divorcees, widows and spinsters mass marriage programme.
This translates to an average of N250, 468. 046 per couple.

Addressing the couples at a civic reception organized by the state government, Governor Rabi'u Kwankwaso stated that the money was used to procure furniture, textile materials, foodstuff as well as provide grants for the brides and other essential items.

Kwankwaaso who described the event as unprecedented in the history of the West African sub-region, further stressed that the marriage programme was initiated to help people strengthen the family institution and halt social crimes in the society, most of which were as a result of erosion of family values.
He maintained that his administration also initiated a special family orientation programme aimed at preventing and minimizing the rising cases of divorce in the state in addition to evolving capacity building programmes especially for women to enable them support their families.
Also during the occasion, the governor signed into law the Street Begging Bill 2013, which prohibited children and adults from begging on the streets and other public places.
The Governor said that violation of the law and other laws against human trafficking would attract stiff penalties.
He, however, pointed out that a special empowerment programme for the physically challenged would be introduced, in order to cushion the effect of the law.
According to him, 2, 205 people with disabilities in the state had been been selected for training that would suit their individual capacities.
Meanwhile, Governor Kwankwaso has handed over 20 cottage industries refurbished by the government to women cooperative groups as well as distributed empowerment packages to the beneficiaries.
In a speech during the hand over ceremony, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Binta Jibril, said the government's empowerment programmes for women had not only helped to promote stable family units, but also helped to provide multiplier effects on the gross domestic product of the state.
"Indeed, experts have already forecast that if these and similar efforts at capacity building and empowerment are sustained, the disposable income of Kano State will surely catch up with that of Lagos in a short time," she added.
On his part, the Commander–General of Kano Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, who spoke extensively on the mass wedding, explained that 60 Christian couples were among those who were wedded.
The occasion was attended by eminent personalities from within and outside the country including the Emir of Ningi, Alhaji Haruna Muhammad Danyaya, who represented the Sultan of Sokoto, the representative of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sunusi, Shaikhs Dahiru Bauchi, Yusuf Sambo Rigachikun, Sheikh Abubakar bin Salah Al-Makki of Jam'iyyatul Birr Foundation of Saudi Arabia and Madame Ben Wahab Aichatou from Tattalin Iyali Foundation of Niger republic.

Weeks back, news went viral that the marriage of actress Mide Funmi Martins and her husband, Afeez Abiodun Owo had collapsed with both parties living apart.
The beautiful actress, who said she is annoyed over the tale, insisted her marriage is intact. In a recent interview, she talked about her career and how much she misses her mum, late Funmi Martins, see excerpts below:

How has your career been in recent times?

I give all the glory and adoration to Almighty God.  If not for Him, I wouldn't be where I am today. To the glory of God, my career has been very well and interesting.

How would you describe your career this year?

It has been wonderful and successful this year.  I don't have any cause to regret anything.  It has been perfect for me.

Who are your friends in Nollywood?

Generally, I don't keep friends.  So, I really don't have friends in Nollywood, just colleagues.

What are the most significant achievements for you as an actress?

My fame, because it opens doors of so many opportunities and privileges for me.  And also the merits.  I won the Best Supporting Actress in Yoruba, City People Awards 2013 and so many others.

How do you hone your craft?

I can't explain it myself.  God gives me the wisdom and strength to do things.  So, it's the Lord's doing.

Since your mother died years back, what are the things you missed most about her?

A lot.  She was the only true friend I ever had.  We were best of friends.  I would describe her as an angel because she was always there for me.  She lived for her kids.  She was indeed a great mother, abiamo tooto.  No one else can ever love me like she did.  I miss her a great deal.

IMG_20131213_151818

What parental legacy that she taught you has helped you till date?

Good heart.  My mummy believed so much in loving and caring for others a lot.  In fact, my mummy used to love others more than herself at times.  She was a generous woman.  Though she didn't have much to give, the little she had, she never hesitated to share with the needy.  That is one major legacy I got from her which has been useful to me too.  Love is a beautiful thing, if we all can truly love and care for ourselves in this country, we will surely live a better life.

You appear beautiful after two kids, what keeps you glowing?

Yeah!  I appear good after two kids.  It's self determination.  I am a popular figure, an actor that has to interpret roles in movies (student, housewife, villager, cultist, poor girl, etc).  So, if I want to really fit into these roles, the only secret to it is simply maintain a good stature.  Otherwise, one will just be abandoned.

toys add more variety in the bedroom and create more intimacy between

The bottom line to better s*x is summed up by relationship expert and co-founder of

loved, admired, and wanted to be with him; and *Reignite* the passion by
doing something new to help take you and him out of your comfort zone!"

Oil Workers Give Conditions For Sale Of Refineries

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG) workers have renewed their threat to shut down the oil sector if the federal government goes ahead with its plan to privatise the refineries.

According to them, selling the refineries without their participation would amount to shaving their heads in their absence.
The oil workers also insisted that the transaction should follow due process to ensure that the most competent investors emerge as the core investors.
The two oil workers unions that spoke in their reaction to the setting up of a steering committee by President Goodluck Jonathan to oversee the process, also told Thisday yesterday that the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) must be passed as a pre-condition for the sale of the refineries.
General Secretary, National Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Mr. Isaac Aberare, said the union was yet to be officially informed of any stakeholders' committee set up by the government.
Aberare, who spoke in a telephone conversation with Thisday, reiterated the union's decision to embark on a nationwide strike until government rescinds its decision to privatise the refineries.
He hinted that NUPENG and its sister union- the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) would soon meet to fix a date for the execution of the planned industrial action.
"Government must engage labour unions in the sector to discuss the model for the planned privatisation. We were not informed about any committee being set up. If government sets up a committee without involving the labour then, they have not met our demand.
"At the intervention meeting with the Minister of Power shortly after our protest, we emphasised that government should retract the plan to privatise the refineries and engage the unions but up till now, they have not met nor informed us of any meeting.
"The leadership of NUPENG and the PENGASSAN will soon meet and take a decision on the execution of our planned protest. It is at that meeting that a date will be fixed for our protest," Aberare said.
The two unions had officially kicked against the planned privatisation of the four refineries since the pronouncement was made few weeks ago.
