Eyewitnesses couldn't ascertain, the depth of their fight, but could only hear them, arguing about money and shouting $10,000 repeatedly. When the argument almost got out of hand, some staff at the café got involved and didn't allow the two adults get physical. But when the matter was still not resolved, Jim went to his car and tried to bring out an object suspected to be a gun, but the guys separating them did not allow him use it.  The other guy zoomed off and came back with two Police men who took Jim away, but few minutes late, Jim resurfaced back to the place, and it's believed the matter was settled by the policemen that came.

It took the jury only 90 minutes to come back with a guilty verdict. Adebolajo reportedly kissed the Koran and smiled as the verdicts were read but Adebowale didn't react. They will both be sentenced next month.

Dino Melaye Speaks Through His Lawyer! Says I Didn’t Formally Marry My Wife

Posted: 19 Dec 2013 05:57 AM PST

The full statement below;
It is with great sadness that this sordid situation has been brought into public domain. In anattempt to shield "the mother" of his children, Dino decided to "quietly" filefor divorce and end this turbulent union. Unfortunately "this woman" has gone all out with wicked lies even to her detriment, to try to disorganize and tarnish Dino's image.

Do we start with:
1) Violence:
I challenge her to produce the so called record of abuse in any police station in Nigeria where Dino was invited and his statement taken. Nothing ever took place so nothing to report.
2) Gun to the head:
Dino has no ammunition. The gun incident was the police search and report. Her intention (after accepting money from Dino's political enemies) was to have him imprisoned under possession of illegal arms. Any reason to pin Dino down and have him jailed. This woman collected bribe to frame the father of her children. The police search in her presence revealed no possession of guns and interpreted her complaints as trivial and cleared Dino of possessing any weapon or incriminating material. The report was signed by the ACP CID, FCT command. She claimed gun was pointed at her in September but only reported a gun threat on 30th of October. Over 1month after a gun threat, laughable. This took place months ago when she no longer resided in his house. She is now presently even facing legal charges based on defamation of character and false criminal accusation.
3) Custody of kids:
Dino has always been in support of the empowerment of womenboth as mothers and even as entrepreneurs. He has never wanted or requested for full custody. He has always believed  young kids should be with their mothers. He is content though PAINED to see his kids only at visits fully controlled by her (Tokunbo Fabiyi). Strange as it is, this is a woman who abandoned her then ill child to go to India for cosmetic surgery on her nose, stomach and other parts. She told Dino she was on an official assignment, only to do surgery, fall into coma and fail to pay her bills. It was Dino that her family contacted and he rushed to her financial and medical aid. All these while she left her kids unattended to. Dino sent her packing after this Indian sacrilege only for her parents to run to Dino's parents in the village begging for forgiveness. Dino's father had to bring her to Abuja to beg his son who took her back. Is it her infidelity, having affairs with Dino's friends, her ex's and God knows who else? Is it the occasions she was caught by Dino giving his  possessions (watches, jewelry, etc) to her lovers?
Dino saw an ex actually wearing his watch that she claimed was stolen by the maid that led to say he was having an affair. Dino knew that Tokunbo had taken his possession to give as gifts to her boyfriends and that it was not the house girl/girls who stole. In his adamant defense of the maid/maids, Tokunbo concluded he must be having an affair. Tokunbo confessed it was only once
Dino caught her, she stole his possession to give her lovers. She even gave a brand new car Dino bought for her to her younger lover. Over the years, Dino severally removed her from their matrimonial home only for her to beg his family who insisted he forgive and taken her back especially for the kids sake.
It is public knowledge that in the recent past, she has spoken proudly and loudly of her husband's loyalty and faithfulness, now she sings a different tune all because Dino quietly decided to file for divorce after her final display of loyalty to her young lovers and inability to stop engaging in meetings with his political opposition in government. Many times even collecting gifts in exchange of info from Dino, who was then still her husband. Three months ago she was still in Ghana for a corrective surgery of her collapsed nose, where her stomach was opened and one rib taken to construct a new bridge on her nose.
We have evidence. These are all ramblings of a woman who is in apparent shock by Dino's final decision to dissolve their customary marriage. Which was never done in the Registry. Thereby legalized only by the Nigerian views of traditional and white wedding. He never took her to court to marry to her!

Bus Driver Kidnaps Big Girl, Rapés Her For Straight 15 Hours

Posted: 19 Dec 2013 05:48 AM PST

A big babe in Enugu State who took a public bus to get to her destination is now living in regrets as she was, in the most inhuman form, rapéd by a popular commercial bus driver in the city of Enugu. He has been charged with rapé after she was rescued from him but the case has been adjourned till February 26, 2014.

The rapist, Emeka Ugwudiobi was said to have to violently had intercourse with her at gunpoint for 15 hours.

According to the prosecution counsel, Mr Francis Ajagu, the driver plies the New Market-Gariki route and the victim was one of his passengers on the fateful day.
"On getting to Mayor Market, he observed that it was only the victim that was left inside the bus...
"He drove the bus to an uncompleted building beside the Mayor Market and started raping the victim," Ajagu told the court. He said the victim was raped from 7 p.m. to 10 a.m. without break and that the accused never heeded the pleas of the victim to have pity on her or to allow her rest.

Ajagu said it was a passerby, one Mr Chidubem Ezeorah, who ran into the scene and reported the case to the police.

When the police got the scene and rounded up Mr Emeka Ugwudiobi, the lady was in such a bad shape that she could hardly stand on her feet in the uncompleted building.

Funny enough, Chidubem Ezeorah's counsel, one Peter Obeta, described the rapist as a responsible man who has a wife and four children. He claimed that the accused had been into driving for the past 16 years and that nobody had ever complained that he was a rapist.

Peter Obeta said that there was no way a bus driver would carry a gun inside his bus and the police would not notice and denied that his client had ever seen the victim he was accused of raping.

But Justice Dorathy Agishi, who adjourned the case to February 26, 2014, for trial, ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody.
#Christmas and #NewYear in prison, first.

Obasanjo Blasts Vanguard Newspaper: “You’re Bloody Idiots”

Posted: 19 Dec 2013 05:44 AM PST

President Olusegun Obasanjo was very furious when approached by Vanguard on Wednesday over the letter that is purportedly written by his daughter, Iyabo, to him as he hurled invectives at the newspaper's man called him on the phone. The exchange between Vanguard and Chief Obasanjo ran thus:

Vanguard: Sir, we tried reaching you all through yesterday, to no avail, over the letter written by your daughter, Iyabo, to you.

Chief Obasanjo: You are a bloody idiot, you have published the paper and you are now looking for me, you are an idiot, don't call me again. When Iyabo finishes you in court…. (hangs up).

But why did Iyabo "wrote such a wicked letter" to her dad?
According to Vanguard, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo has confirmed to them that she indeed wrote the letter and she said her father's associates and friends should take it as her own way of getting back to him. Very sad!

She reacted against the background of mixed reactions from elders and notable politicians on the import of the letter which she said is her last communication with her father.
I just wonder what came on Iyabo!?

Food seller stabs boy over N100 debt

Posted: 19 Dec 2013 02:53 AM PST

Relatives of the victim, taking him away
There was a mild disturbance on Wednesday at Herbert Macaulay Way, Central Business District, Abuja, after a food seller stabbed a boy over a N100 debt.
Many people in the area said the stabbing eventually led to the boy's death.
The incident led to the burning of a BMW car and it took the efforts of policemen and soldiers guarding the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the area.
Trouble started when the woman, whose name could not be immediately ascertained, allegedly accosted the boy, simply identified as Nuhu over the debt. An argument was said to have ensued and the woman, in a fit of anger, stabbed the boy in the stomach with a knife.

The deceased was later taken away to an unknown destination by his friends.
An eyewitness, who identified himself as Abubakar, told PUNCH Metro that Nuhu shouted after being stabbed, slumped and was later reported dead. He said the victim's friends and other artisans moved to attack the woman. However, a man in the area rescued her.
Abubakar said, "The man prevented the boys from attacking the woman by taking her away to safety. The mob then destroyed the table and benches being used by the woman to sell food and placed it on top of the car which belonged to the man before setting it ablaze.
"By the time the police and fire fighters came, it was too late to save the car."
Our correspondent observed that the security operatives moved round the area and urged the mob to disperse.  It was said the the strategy was to prevent some of the mob, who are mostly jobless youths, from fomenting trouble.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Altienne Daniel, could not be reached for comments as she did not respond to the calls to her phone.

Woman remanded for biting boy to death

Posted: 19 Dec 2013 02:47 AM PST

Prison
A 28-year-old woman, Taiwo Madamidola, and one Ajayi Oluwasegun, 40, have been remanded in prison custody for the alleged murder of a 15-year-old boy, Michael Gbore.
The two suspects were arraigned before an Ebute Meta Magistrate's Court, Lagos State, on three counts of murder.
The police said while Madamidola was biting the deceased, Oluwasegun was hitting him with his hand till he dropped dead.

The woman's bites were said to have inflicted injuries on the deceased's body.
The incident was said to have happened on Igando Street, in the Abesan Estate area of the state.
It was however not clear what late Gbore did to the duo to warrant the attack.
The investigating police officer, Ali Uwensuri, said the defendants were arrested in the Ipaja area of Lagos shortly after the incident.
Uwensiri, however, in a remand request added that the police could not find any exhibit or fingerprint evidence, just as the defendants also denied commiting the crime.
He said the police were relying on witnesses accounts.
The three counts read in part, "That you, Ajayi Oluwasegun and Taiwo Madamidola, on November 16, 2013 at 7pm at 4, Igando Street, off Abosede Aro Road, Amosu, Abesan Estate, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit; murder.
"That you, Taiwo Madamidola, did unlawfully kill one Michael Gbore, by inflicting tooth bite injuries on him."
The prosecutor, Inspector Richard Odige, said the offence was punishable under sections 231 and 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria 2011.
The defendant's plea was not taken.
Odige thereafter applied for the remand of the defendants in prison pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.
The magistrate, Mrs Demi Ajayi, ordered the remand of the defendants in prison till January 22, 2014 when the case would be for mention.
She urged the police to duplicate the case file to facilitate the early release of the DPP's advice.

34-year-old Enugu-Ebonyi Bridge collapses

Posted: 19 Dec 2013 02:32 AM PST

The bridge.
The 34-year-old Ovu River Bridge, which is located on a federal highway linking Enugu and Ebonyi states, has collapsed.
The bridge links Ebonyi State, through Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area, and Enugu State, through Agbani-Ugboka-Nara-Nkerefi in Nkanu East council.
PUNCH Metro learnt on Wednesday that the bridge collapsed under the weight of a truck, which was plying it late at night.
Villagers at the foot of the bridge told our correspondent that the truck was carrying 900 bags of cement when the bridge caved in, as against 600 bags stipulated for heavy-duty vehicles.

President of Nkerefi Town Union, Mr. Joseph Mkpume, said before the town could decide on the action to take, the driver of the truck connived with some people and evacuated the truck and cement.
"If we, the villagers, had been smarter than the driver, we would have held him, the truck and the goods, and ensure its firm comes to fix the bridge," said Mkpume.
He said, "Our people are now stranded and no one is going to enjoy this Christmas because our movement has automatically been restricted.
"Those of them who must go to Ebonyi State for an urgent matter would now have to go out of our community, then pass by Enugu town, through Abakaliki in Ebonyi State, before getting to their destination."
"This will take them about four times the original journey. It then means that they will spend half a day travelling."
The Nkerefi Town Union president stated that the matter was made worse because the federal road on which the bridge is built had been in a terrible state for more than a decade.
"We have had to ply this federal highway filled with pot holes for more than a decade. Now, the only bridge on the road that links the two states – Enugu and Ebonyi – has caved in," Mkpume added.
Senior officials of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency were also at the scene of the incident.
They told PUNCH Metro that an analysis of the damaged bridge had been carried out, adding that it would cost no less than N50m to fix it.
The South-East Representative of FERMA, Mr. Nnoli Nnaji, said the analysis carried out showed there was a structural defect.
Nnoli said FERMA had already tabled the bridge on its emergency schedule even though it was never part of its budget for the year 2013.
"We are making plans to get funds for an emergency repair. We are certain to provide the estimated cost of N50m for work to begin. We have no option because the whole thing is affecting the people's commercial and farming activities."
Nnoli, however, called on indigenes to ensure that heavy-duty vehicles were not allowed to ply the bridge when fixed.

An Ukrainian captain and a Greek engineer on an oil products tanker have been kidnapped by pirates off the coast of Nigeria, Greek coast guard officials said on Tuesday.
The 6,500 ton Marshall Islands-flaggged MT ALTHEA with 18 crew on board was attacked by a group of 10 pirates, the officials said.

The ship's manager, Piraeus-based Medtankers Management, confirmed the attack.
"We are doing everything we can for their release," an official at the firm said on condition of anonymity, adding that so far, no ransom demand had been received.
"They kidnapped the two men but did not touch the cargo (oil) or injure anyone."
The ship was attacked late on Monday around 35 nautical miles off the oil-producing Niger Delta coastline, a Nigerian security source said, adding that the armed pirates fled with the two hostages in a speedboat.
The Nigerian navy is said to be investigating the incident.

Army Will Fight To The Last Man To End Insurgency – COAS

Ihejirika-COAS-298x2951
The Nigerian Army will do whatever it takes, even if it means 'fighting to the last man,' in order to ensure the unity and protection of the territorial integrity of the country, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-General Azubuike Ihejirika, has vowed.

Speaking yesterday at Scorpion Officers Mess, Asokoro Abuja during the decoration of the newly promoted officers in the rank of Brigadier-Generals, Ihejirika said, "Nigeria Army will fight to the last man to ensure the unity and the protection of territorial integrity of the nation".
He commended President Goodluck Jonathan for his support to the Nigeria Army and the quality leadership he had exhibited so far.
"It is on record that since the administration of former President Ibrahim Babangida, the Nigeria Army has not added any new barracks till now
"It is also on record that equipment abandoned in the 80′s are just being resuscitated by this administration."
Stressing that the newly promoted officers were aware of the responsibilities placed on their shoulders, the COAS urged them to sustain the qualities of service that earned them the promotion.
Ihejirika noted that the promotion exercise carried out does not mean there are no good officers left but due to limited position. He, however, admonished those left to be steadfast that they might be lucky next time.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence and Army, Senator Judge Sekibo, said the Nigeria Army was the last hope of the country.
He assured that the National Assembly was solidly behind the Nigeria Army and ready to offer any support to ensure that the war against insurgency was won.
"Our last hope is the Nigeria Army. Try as much as possible to fight for Nigeria's unity. Nigeria must remain as a strong nation, all those element should be eliminated," he said.

MUST READ: Why Sweet Potato Is Good For You & Why Should Eat It

Posted: 18 Dec 2013 11:05 AM PST

sweet-potatoes-360x281
This distinctive tuber comes in variety of colours, such that they can have red, orange, yellow or even purple skin.  They can also have orange, white or purple flesh, adding to the visual appeal that a food could give.
Though sweet potatoes are … well, sweet, experts say they won't cause blood sugar spikes and crashes — phenomenon that are usually linked with fatigue and weight gain. Nutritionists say when eaten, the natural sugars in sweet potatoes are slowly released into the bloodstream, helping to ensure a balanced and regular source of energy.
The vegetable is also regarded as a good source of fibre, which helps with blood sugar regulation and keeping you regular as well.

Low calories
For weight watchers, sweet potatoes can be eaten without the usual fear of packing the pounds around your waistline. This is because this tuber crop has fewer calories per serving than yams, experts assure.
Again, sweet potatoes are said to be slightly higher in protein than yams; and the more of it you eat, the better for your health.  More importantly, sweet potatoes can help prevent certain cancers, experts say.
Indeed, the World Journal of Gastroenterology reported that sweet potato contains a protein that inhibits human colon and rectal cancers. The results were dose-dependent, meaning that the higher the amount of sweet potato protein, the better the cancer-inhibiting effects.
Vitamin B6
Scientists at the Office of Dietary Supplements at the National Institutes of Health, say the body needs Vitamin B6 for more than 100 enzyme reactions involved in metabolism. It is also involved in brain development during pregnancy and infancy as well as immune function. Sweet potatoes contain high levels of vitamin B6, and this helps to reduce the chemical homocysteine in our bodies. Homocysteine has been linked with degenerative diseases, including heart attacks.
Vitamin C
Sweet potatoes are a good source of Vitamin C, which most people know for its power to ward off cold and flu viruses. Paediatricians say Vitamin C is also essential for bone and tooth formation, digestion, and blood cell formation. The vitamin also contributes to wound healing and produces collagen to keep skin youthful. It even improves our ability to cope with stress and protect our body against toxins that may be linked to cancer.
Experts say the body is not able to make Vitamin C on its own, and it does not store vitamin C. It is therefore important to include plenty of vitamin C-containing foods in your daily diet.
Vitamin D
In addition, these nutritious tubers contain Vitamin D (which is actually a hormone) to support our immune systems and overall health.  This vitamin is primarily made in our bodies when we are exposed to adequate sunlight and contributes to healthy bones, heart, nerves, skin teeth and thyroid gland. Eat sweet potato for adequate nourishment.
Iron
The MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopaedia notes that iron is a mineral that our bodies need for many functions. For example, iron is part of haemoglobin, a protein which carries oxygen from our lungs throughout our bodies. It helps our muscles to store and use oxygen. Iron is also part of many other proteins and enzymes.
Your body needs the right amount of iron, experts warn. If you have too little iron, you may develop iron deficiency anaemia. People at higher risk of having too little iron are young children and women who are pregnant or have periods.
Warning against taking iron supplements without the supervision of a physician, experts say too much iron can harm. So, meet your iron needs through the iron content in sweet potatoes. They help with energy levels, as well as in the production of red and white blood cells. It also helps us in developing resistance to stress, makes for proper immune functioning, and the metabolising of protein, among other things.
Magnesium
The authorities at The George Mateljan Foundation say this essential mineral is required by the body for maintaining normal muscle and nerve function, keeping a healthy immune system, maintaining heart rhythm, and building strong bones. A deficiency in magnesium can lead to muscle spasms, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, anxiety disorders, migraines, osteoporosis, and cerebral infarction. Conversely, consuming too much magnesium typically causes diarrhoea as the body attempts to excrete the excess.
Sweet potatoes are a good source of magnesium. Not only is magnesium considered the relaxation and anti-stress mineral, it is also critical for healthy artery, blood, bone, heart, muscle, and nerve function.
Potassium
Doctors L. Bellows and R. Moore, two researchers at Colorado State University, say potassium is an important electrolyte that's crucial for life. "It's necessary for the heart, kidneys, and other organs to work normally. Primarily, potassium functions to regulate water and mineral balance throughout the body," they explain.
Scientists say potassium works with sodium to maintain the body's normal blood pressure; while research suggests that increasing dietary potassium may provide a protective effect against hypertension (high blood pressure) by increasing the amount of sodium excreted from the body. A high potassium intake has also been linked to a reduced risk of death due to cardiovascular disease.
Carotenoids
Nutritionists say the rich orange colour of many sweet potatoes is a visual indication of the high levels of carotenoids that occur in these tubers.  Carotenoids help strengthen our eyesight and boost our immunity to disease; they are powerful antioxidants that help ward off cancer and protect against the effects of ageing.
"Studies at Harvard University of more than 124,000 people showed a 32 per cent reduction in risk of lung cancer in people who consumed a variety of carotenoid-rich foods as part of their regular diet," experts enthuse.
Another study of women who had completed treatment for early stage chest cancer conducted by researchers at Women's Healthy Eating and Living found that women with the highest blood concentrations of carotenoids had the least likelihood of cancer recurrence.
"Moreover, the carotenoid beta carotene is the precursor to Vitamin A in your body," scientists say. Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin that supports healthy eyes and skin. Beta carotene has also been studied for its ability to guard against different types of cancer.
Recently, researchers discovered a related group of nutrients in sweet potato called batatosides that have been found to have antibacterial and antifungal properties.
New research shows that cyanidins and peonidins found in sweet potatoes may be able to reduce the potential health risk posed by heavy metals.
