Posted: 26 Sep 2013 11:13 AM PDT -- Paul Oliver, a former defensive back for the University of Georgia and the San Diego Chargers, was found dead this week, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot. His death marks the latest in a string of suicides among former professional football players. "Everyone in the Chargers family is sad today after hearing the news about Paul," a statement from the NFL team said. "He was part of our family for five years. At just 29 years old, he still had a lifetime in front of him. Right now all of our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this most difficult time." He leaves behind a wife and two children, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. "We appreciate all the thoughts and prayers," the family said in a statement to The San Diego Union-Tribune. "We request privacy in the wake of this tragic loss." Mark Richt, coach of the University of Georgia Bulldogs, called it "a very sad day." "I just want to say it's been rough," he told reporters. "I just want to tell everybody in his family that we're thinking about them and we love them. We'll do whatever we can to help." Police found Oliver's body Tuesday night at the bottom of a set of stairs in a home in Marietta, Georgia, Cobb County police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said. A family member had called 911. The county medical examiner ruled the death a suicide by handgun and gave police authorization to release the cause. Oliver played for the Chargers from 2007 to 2011, recording 144 tackles in 57 games. A former teammate, Eric Weddle, described Oliver as "charismatic, funny but also quiet and reserved," The Union-Tribune reported. "He never said a bad word about anyone. Just a good, genuine guy." The circumstances of his apparent suicide were not immediately clear. Suicides of some other former NFL players involved brain injuries. Star NFL linebacker Junior Seau was 43 when he took his own life in May 2012. The National Institutes of Health later found he suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE, a neurodegenerative brain disease that can follow multiple hits to the head. A study published in December in the journal Brain looked at brain tissue of 34 professional football players after they died. All but one showed evidence of disease. In April 2012, former Atlanta Falcons safety Ray Easterling, 62, committed suicide. An autopsy found signs of CTE. In February 2011, former Chicago Bears defensive back Dave Duerson, 50, committed suicide with a gunshot to the chest, rather than his head, so his brain could be researched for CTE. Boston University researchers found the disease in his brain. In December 2012, Jovan Belcher of the Kansas City Chiefs killed his girlfriend before taking his own life. His remains were not tested for CTE, media reports said. The NFL launched a crisis support line in July 2012 for players, former players and their families. Called NFL Life Line, it operates independently from the NFL and promises to keep all calls confidential. "There is no higher priority for the National Football League than the health and wellness of our players," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell wrote in a letter to personnel and fans at the time. |
Police Stop Amaechi From Giving Teachers Employment Letter For Fear Of Jonathan Posted: 26 Sep 2013 11:09 AM PDT The police in Rivers State are really taking their fight against Governor Rotimi Amaechi because of his minor or major disagreement with President Goodluck Jonathan too far, Olokunbolablessing.blogspot.Com observed. Continuing their acts of impunity, Armed Policemen on Wednesday chased away newly-employed teachers who gathered at a Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to receive their deployment letters from the state government, because the police thought the teachers will protest against President Jonathan. The teachers, numbering 13,000, were invited to the stadium by the state government to receive their letters of postings and to be addressed by the state Commissioner for Education, Alice Lawrence-Nemi. Some of the teachers, who got to the stadium as early as 7.30am, were chased out by the police, others who got their late and tried to gain entrance into the stadium were stopped from entering the arena. The innocent teachers were manhandled all because of lack of intelligence by the police who did not even try to find out the real reasons why the teachers were at the stadium. The policemen, according to sources, had thought that the newly recruited teachers were in the stadium for a demonstration against President Jonathan, hence their decision to pounce on the teachers. One of the teachers chased out of the Stadium told Punch that: "My colleagues and I took the exam and we were successful. Now that the Ministry of Education invited us to come and collect our letters of posting, see what the police have done to frustrate us." When our correspondent visited the stadium, 12 Toyota Hilux patrol vehicles were seen parked at the main entrance with scores of heavily armed policemen guiding the place after the teachers had been dispersed. Rivers State Commissioner of Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, described the action of the police as "impunity from retrogressive forces." She said, "Virtually, this is the impunity we have been talking about in Rivers State. It is clear to Rivers people that this is the action of retrogressive forces who are totally against development because it is the first time any government, whether state or federal, is employing 13,000 teachers at once. "These are people who have been unemployed. Nigeria is crying about unemployment, education system is in a mess and a government employs 13,000 teachers, trains them and wants to feed them into the system, and somebody chooses to treat this with levity and to tear gas the teachers and give a very stupid excuse, that the teachers were there to protest against President Jonathan." Funny enough, the police spokesman, Ahmad Mohammad, said: "We got intelligence report that about 18,000 youths were being mobilised to protest against a very important personality in the country. You are aware that the ban on public procession in the state by the police is still in force." |

I've Had Sex With Only 4 Men & I'm 18yrs Old: Is It Too Much? Posted: 26 Sep 2013 11:00 AM PDT This is kind of funny thou. There are some 15 years old girls in secondary school who's had it with well over 10 different guys, but they cannot be categorized among decent girls. Now, this girl is in a university and just 18 but has had it with four different guys. She told one of her girlfriends and the story leaked. She is bitter that her friends are calling her an "ashi". See her story below: I am 18 years old and in my second year in a private university. I started having sex when I turned 16 after leaving secondary school and I have had four sexual partners so far. I dated 2 of the boys while the other 2 were just flings. Recently I confided in a friend the number of men I've been with and I later saw text exchanges between her and another mutual friend of ours laughing at me and criticizing me. They called me all sorts of names including wayward and loose. I've been with only four men, is that too much for a girl my age? I thought it was the norm so why are my friends condemning me? |

Court awards N25m to Adams Oshiomhole as damages over News Of The People 2011 publication. Posted: 25 Sep 2013 11:58 AM PDT A High Court sitting in Benin City, today, 25th Sept. 2013, awarded N25m damages for a libelous publication in favour of Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State against Dockland Communications Limited, publishers of News of the People magazine. In suit no B/556/2011 Justice Efe Ikponmwonba ruled that Dockland Communications failed to prove the veracity of a libelous headline "Oshiomhole's sex power exposed: Impregnates young girl six months after death of wife", and a story on page 19 of its magazine published in 2011. The Governor had taken Dockland Communications Limited, publishers of "News of the People"to court after failing to retract the said story and meet the conditions of apologizing to him as contained in a letter to them by his lawyers, Ken Mozia and Associates. Oshiomhole who asked the court to award him N250 million in damages maintained that the defendant, among other things, falsely wrote that he bought a jeep for the said girl whom he was alleged to have impregnated and that he was interfering in the academic activities of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, on behalf of the girl; that he used sexual performance enhancement drugs and that he had performed traditional marriage rites precedent to a marriage between him and the said girl. During trial, the Governor had under cross-examination said "I am a public officer, and as you have rightly pointed out as a Governor, what I do or fail to do is important. My character is important and people's opinion of my personal life is important. My children are still in agony. The magazine published this just a few months after my wife passed away and this publication coincided with my daughter's wedding. A Governor whom I invited for the wedding asked me if I was the one going to wed or my daughter. Your image as a public officer is very important. He continued that: "after this publication, I had very serious family crisis because my children were still in grief over the death of their mother." He told the Court after the defendant's counsel asked him to show how his character was damaged, that his conclusion from the story and that of many people who called him after reading the story was that he uses drugs. Reacting to the judgment, Counsel to Governor Oshiomhole, Barrister Femi Owootori of Ken Mozia and Associates Chambers said "we as solicitors to the governor wrote a letter to the company asking for a retraction of the publication. But the newspaper stuck to its gun and refused to retract the publication. So we gave the necessary notice and took legal action to sue for libel and the case has been on. We closed our case rather than come in for defence, the defendants said they were resting their case on the claimants case which is a strategy suggesting that the claimant had made no case. But unfortunately for them when the judgment was being delivered it was exhaustively analysed. "Even though our claim was for N250 million, considering the status of the person against whom the publication was made, the court awarded N25 million and N10,000 cost because the court agreed with our submission that the publication was a tissue of lies" He urged journalists to cross-check their facts before publication. WOW: Ghanaian Lawyer Hangs Himself in His Office, Leaves Suicide Note Posted: 25 Sep 2013 11:45 AM PDT A 44-year-old lawyer and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Property Lane Limited, Kofi Yawson-Agyei, has committed suicide in Accra. Yawson-Agyei, who was the Secretary of Ghana Institute of Surveyors, was found hanging with an electric cable in his CUA House office at Adabraka in Accra early yesterday morning. Before his death, the deceased who was also a land surveyor, was said to have left a written note and signed a cheque for GH¢3000 directing it to be given to the wife, Felicia Yawson-Agyei. The body had since been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy. Confirming the story to DAILY GUIDE, Chief Superintendent Frank Adufati, Accra Regional Crime Officer, said KofI Yawson-Agyei was discovered dead in his office at Adabraka around 6:00am yesterday. An on-the-spot enquiry revealed that at about 12 midnight that fateful day, the CEO of Property Lane Limited told the wife Felicia Agyei-Yawson that he was going for a stroll. For a while, the deceased was not returning and so the wife informed friends and relatives about the development and a search was mounted for him. At about 6:00am that same day, Mr Yawson-Agyei was found to have hanged himself in his office by the relatives. A report was then lodged with the Accra Regional Police for investigations. The deceased before his death left a suicide note and a signed Standard Bank cheque of GH¢3000, directing a lady by name Naa in his office to give it to his wife. The note read, "Naa give the written Standard Cheque to my wife. Pick the cheque from Makola, pay in and use signed cheque for my wife. The balance in the Fidelity account is about GH¢3000 Plus about GH¢7000 from Makola. Mankoadze owes GH¢2000." Police preliminary investigations suspected no foul play but investigations are on-going, according to the police Crime officer. No marks of violence were found on the body at the scene, sources told DAILY GUIDE. |

Posted: 25 Sep 2013 11:37 AM PDT Born and raised in Adegbola village in Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo state, Hafiz Oyetoro popularly known as Saka has been able to walk himself into fame and fortune. Saka became famous for his roles in sitcom, House A-part and promotional video for Etisalat but became a household after he 'ported' to MTN. A lecturer, actor, father and husband, Saka says his audience is yet to see his best. He spoke to Movie Moments on his life, wife and career. Congratulations on the celebration of your 50th birthday, how do you feel now? I feel honored and at the same I am grateful to Almighty Allah for preserving me from to my very tender age till now; most importantly, I want to appreciate my parents because I believe without them, I am nobody. I am happy, glad and at the same time fulfilled for all that have been happening in life. I may look petite in size but I am old o! Did you ever believe you will be this famous in life? Everybody aspires to be famous and well known positively and for me I wouldn't say I have known that I will be this famous but rather by nature and with the kind of characters I put up while growing up, I knew my stubbornness made me popular in my area and so been famous was nothing new to me. Fans and people see you as a super star, this is contrary to the way you perceive yourself. Why is this so? I still have a long way to go. You know I am a lecturer, a simple civil servant who is trying to make it in the entertainment industry. I only practice what I teach as a lecturer in Theatre Arts at Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education. I practice a little bit of it outside in order to enhance my teaching methodology. I still have a long way to go. I am still pursuing a Ph.D programme. I am not as popular as you are portraying me. But this day, everyone wants you to feature in their productions, especially adverts. So, don't you think you are qualified to be regarded as a star? As far as that is concerned, to God be the glory. It is the grace of God. It is not me but the grace of God. There are still other people better than I who have not received that grace and I pray for such people too. As you are talking to me, you are a superstar. Once you are able to do things in your own field very well, you are a superstar, it is just in Nigeria that we give some special emphasis to some people. Once you are able to do what you are doing very well and you are known for it, then you are a superstar. But for me, I am still struggling and striving. How are you coping with your rising status? I am an average Nigerian, a simple average lecturer who goes about in my small car and it doesn't take so much from me, unlike the superstar who will hide and hide. I go where I go now without policemen escorting me. Like I told you, I am still moving up. Maybe when I become the so-called superstar, I will need all those things. But to the glory of God, I am growing; things are working well for me. I am teaching well. I am super in what I teach. I thank God for that. Do you intend crossing to the university as a lecturer later? For now, I am satisfied where I am. The essence of getting more knowledge is to be able to add more value to your immediate environment. If Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, where I teach now, gives me the opportunity to go and learn more, when I come back, I think it is my responsibility to first and foremost add more value to the college that has done so much for me. I will like to come back and add more value to the community that has brought me up. How has life been like after porting to MTN Nigeria? I will not want to say much about that for now; but all I can say is that everything is fine and cool over there and I'm enjoying every bit of it. I don't want to say much about it but when the time is actually ripe for it I will definitely let the whole world know. Did you see the MTN endorsement deal coming real quick as it came? Journalist and their antics to squeeze words from you; well all I want to say is that when you are good people appreciate you the more and as such my endorsement deal with MTN I want to say is God's way of making me happy and feel appreciated by people whom you don't know having been watching you for so long. In a recent chat you talked so much about how poverty dealt with you, how is life now? Alhamdulillah, level don they change. Let me put it like that. I believe that in the nearest future, level will finally change. But for now, level don dey change. I have murdered poverty and God in his infinite mercy murdered poverty for me. What do you mean by level don dey change? It takes so long to be satisfied with what you want in life. Even the Dangotes of this world are still looking for more level to change. Unlike before, I was not married, I did not have children, I really struggled as a student but today, I am married, I have a job as a lecturer, I have about three degrees and I am currently pursuing a Ph.D programme. That means that level don dey change. I have murdered poverty and God has finally murdered it for me. I am no longer poor, but very comfortable. Talking about that stage name "Saka" how did you come about it? I could remember vividly in 2003 when my blossom friend Gbenga Windapo and I created a TV series titled House A-part which was produced by Greg and Debbie Odutayo. I played the role Saka in the TV series and ever since then the name stuck like a second skin on me. How do you handle funny characters from the real individual? It is only when one does not realize his or her role in the society that they begin to mingle their roles. For me, I know the role I am playing on TV and the role I am playing as a person. The role I play makes people laugh. As a lecturer, when I am in class, my students see me as such. It depends on how one manages his person and the role he plays. As a professional theatre person, I was trained under the tutorship of lecturers that are capable of changing people from one role to another. One of them is Chuck Mike who trained me as an actor and as a Theatre Director. I know the role I am playing at every point in time. When I go for serious business, you see a serious Hafiz, when I go for comedy roles on TV, you see a comic character, when I come home, and you see a father and a loving husband of his wife How many children do you have? I have three children. I got married late, when I was almost forty years. My children are still very young. I thank God for their lives. They are doing well, they are healthy and they are performing well in school |
Nigeria Plans To Regulate The Use Of Social Media Posted: 25 Sep 2013 11:28 AM PDT The Bureau of Public Enterprises says it plans to roll out policies and the legal framework for the regulation of the social media in Nigeria. Director General of the privatisation agency, Mr. Benjamin Dikki frowned on the unregulated posting of what he called offensive materials on the various social networking sites. Dikki said this plan was in line with BPE's reform mandate to initiate necessary policies and the legal framework for the regulation of the social media in the country. "As it now obtains, all manner of things are uploaded on the various platforms of the social media without recourse to age and sensibilities of the users. This is not good enough" he said. |

This is no doubt one of the most inspiring and culturally stimulating places in town. Continue to see more photos... "The designers with inspiration from Ile-Ife, London and Prato conceived the store and the result is a comfortable marriage of modernism and classicism", said Tosin Phillips, Okunoren's Brand Manager. The store has services that go beyond a regular shopping experience, such as Private Tailoring, personal shopping, Shoe Shining and complimentary Wi-Fi. Within the first three weeks of opening, every customer will enjoy a free gift from the Okunoren Twins. |
Many Pastors Are Now Status-Driven, No More Kingdom-Driven Posted: 25 Sep 2013 11:16 AM PDT It almost seem to me like God has since left the 'church', and He is just watching us do our thing. Churches are now handled and managed like circular industries. The place of the Holy Spirit has since been abandoned. It is now competition galore. Every person is solely interested in building an empire for himself. Many of our pastors desperately want their members to honour them more than they honour Christ. Many church folks don't even know Jesus Christ. 'Pastor' has become 'Jesus'. It bleeds my heart this is what the church has become... It pains me even more that Heaven is sincerely no more the focus... Many who even preach about Heaven act like they don't believe it even exists. Many worship 'Pastors', they rarely care about Jesus. 'Pastors' are now status-driven, no more Kingdom-driven! Focus has changed in ministry. It is no more about His Kingdom. It now about whose church is the biggest. Who can 'preach' better... Who can 'prophesy' better... Who has more 'miracles' in his ministry... Who has the latest cars and longest escort... Who has bigger investments... Whose name is more in the media... Supposed Ministers of the Gospel are now striving to be celebrities... Ministers even wear "blings"... Is this the same Christianity we were told about as teenagers, or is there a new 'Jesus' we should start serving? Is this the same Christianity the Apostles practised that made people see them and called them "Christians" in Antioch? It seems so much like God has since left the 'church', and will only return to pick the very few who have chosen to face the Gospel as it is. Today, church folks no longer have personal walk with Jesus Christ, they need 'Pastors' who will pray on their behalf and do 'magic' for them... Church folks and other desperate people are pushing once-upon-a-time genuine pastors to become false prophets and fake ministers of the gospel of Christ... We now have all kind of 'magic centers', and it takes the special grace of God to know who is really fake and who is genuine... Let's remember this: The return of the Lord Jesus is sure. He is coming for the righteous, not the religious. He is coming for those that know Him, not just those that are close to 'powerful pastors'... He is coming for those who are upright, not just workers in church... Friends, let's prepare for His return and His reward, everyday of our life! By Bridget Elesin |
Lamar Odom slams dad for blaming the Kardashians for his downfall Posted: 25 Sep 2013 11:13 AM PDT Lamar Odom's father Joe granted an interview to Radar Online yesterday blaming his son's fall from grace on the Kardashian family. Joe claims marrying Khloe was the worst mistake Lamar ever made. Joe said: "Someone's got to speak out, I've got to do something about this. It's simple. They brought him down. He would be better off without them. Let him go and get his life together. I think the best thing for him would be to have a clean break, divorce Khloe and as a single man try and get his life back together. The mother has been talking a lot of trash about my son, saying he's on drugs and stuff like that. She's got something against my son, something against my family. Kris Jenner is very negative. She's an evil b*tch. She doesn't care about Lamar, she just cares about their image and money." "I blame Kris in particular, she's been through a lot of stuff herself. She's no Cinderella. I can't really say if the Kardashians are doing drugs, but my son would never use hard drugs. I can't pinpoint right now who's giving it him, but I'm going to investigate. The Kardashians haven't been a good influence on my son. They don't give a f*ck about my son. It's more about the damage they do to the Kardashian brand. They brought him down. He'd be better off without them. Let him go, get his life together."Lamar apparently didn't like his 'absent' father's comments and slammed him on twitter, calling the Kardashians his only true family. See his tweet after the cut... "Won't continue 2 speak on this but I have got 2 let this out real quick. I have let this man and many others get away with a lot of shit. He wasn't there 2 raise me. He was absent ALL of my life due to his own demons. My mother and grandmother raised me. Queens raised me. For the first time since they left, came a blessing of a FAMILY that I married into. FAMILY. That man wasn't even invited to my wedding. He has never met my mother in law and some of my other family. How can a man who has NOT once called me to check on my well being have the nerve to talk so recklessly about his own "son". He is my downfall! His own demons may be the ONLY thing he gave 2 me. He disrespecting the ONLY FAMILY that has loved me without expecting anything in return. They are the ONLY ones that have been here consistently 4 me during this dark time. Only person 2 blame is myself. Say what you want about me but leave the ones who have done nothing but protect and love me out of this! This goes to out to everyone!" |

Why do you like them I love my skin because it so soft, fair and beautiful, I love my legs because they are spotless and my face because it catches men fancy. How do you cope with attention from men It is normal in our country Nigeria for men to walk up to ladies even though they don't like her, most of them do it for the fun of it. I enjoy it when men approach me, but as a lady you should know how to respect yourself thou I have many male friends. |
