The True Story Of Mystery Images In A Mosque In Lagos Posted: 11 Sep 2013 11:05 AM PDT Elias Estate, Owode in Ikosi-Isheri Local Council development Area of Lagos State has been playing host to several visitors since Tuesday September 3, while Dawis Central Mosque has become a Mecca of sorts with people trooping down there to catch a glimpse of three different images said to have appeared on its walls, including those of two neighbouring buildings in the community. One of the buildings share the same compound with the Mosque, while the other one is located behind the Mosque. Most of those visiting do so for different reasons: Some to offer prayers, others to satisfy their curiosity over the appearance of the images which have become a subject of controversy. According to sources, the appearance of the three images on the wall of the mosque was first noticed by an Hausa worshipper who raised an alarm that attracted neighbours and passers-by. Few worshippers promptly identified the images as those of three Shehus (leaders of Islam): Shehus Ahmadu Tijani, Ibrahim Niyas and Jamiu Bulala who died some years back. According to them, Liyas died in 1975, Tijani died five decades ago, while Bulala died less than a decade ago. But news of the appearance of the images created panic among residents, leading to a stampede. When Vanguard's Bose Adelaja visited the community last Thursday, there was repeated shouts of Allah Hakibaru (Allah is the greatest). Women who came around were compelled to cover their heads before being allowed to enter the Mosque. Also, many of the onlookers were seen holding Tesbiu and Al-Quran, claiming they visited the scene purposely to pray to God Almighty. Some of the worshippers said that the development prompted some individuals to convert to Islam. One of them, as claimed, was a trader at Owode-Onirin who was immediately christened Yusuf. In a chat with Vanguard, President-General, Dawis Alhaji Ibrahim Samad and General Cordinator Dawis, Alhaji Idera Afolabi, claimed the images were first noticed during the 2013 Ramadan but the worshippers kept the knowledge to themselves until last Tuesday when the Hausa worshipper raised the alarm. "About a week to the end of Ramadan, we saw the images on the wall during a prayer session which prompted us to change our system of operation. Since then, the Mosque open only during prayer hours until last Tuesday when a an Hausa worshipper came here to pray and was baffled at the images. Since then, people have been thronging the place on daily basis," they chorused. Some traders also seized the occasion to do brisk business as photographs of the images are now being sold at N100 each. During VM's visit, no government official or law enforcement agent was seen. However, a branded bus belonging to Ikosi-Isheri LCDA which was sighted around 12.30pm, left the scene almost immediately. Asked if government was informed about the development in the light of the absence of security agents to control the surging crowd, Alhaji Afolabi said the services of Sherif Guards were employed to maintain orderliness. "When we saw the crowd today (last Thursday), we went to Mile 12 Under-bridge to get five soldiers. We were also able to get 20 Sherif Guards who have been helping in crowd control. Also, the Divisional Police Officer at Ajegunle was contacted but his boys only came to satisfy their curiosity," he said. A sign of the end time Alhaji Afolabi also dismissed the notion that the images represent a miracle, saying that they are intended to show the steadfastness of the Shehus. "The essence is not to record miracles but to tell us the end has come because God is revealing Himself in an unusual way. Shehu Niyas once appeared in Agege about three months ago, the images are there to show that Allah is alive," he said. Efforts by Vanguard crew to gain access into the Mosque proved abortive as the entrances were completely blocked by the surging crowd. Resident debunks story However, an occupant of the building at the back of the Mosque where some people were seen crying, praying and taking photographs of the supposed images, John Oche, debunked the story. John Oche said: "My sister, it is a rumour; the crowd has been touching our wall, claiming they saw an image but I'm yet to see any image on this wall O. The crowd has been gathering day and night but I am yet to see the images".
Hon. Makinde denies taking his honeymoon to Obudu Ranch due to bankruptcy Posted: 11 Sep 2013 11:01 AM PDT Newly married entertainer turned politician, Rotimi Makinde, and his new wife, former Miss Osun state are currently observing their honeymoon at Obudu Cattle Ranch in Cross Rivers State. The couple left their base in Ile Ife Osun State some days after their wedding to Cross River state where they plan to spend at least a month, having the time of their lives at the wondrous hospitality haven. Hon. Makinde's media personnel, Sanya Ojo, this week reacted to speculations that he took his new bride to Obudu Cattle Ranch instead of the Dubai honeymoon she'd had hoped for because he was bankrupt. Sanya Ojo said: "Its misinformation and unfortunate for any discerning mind to nurse the insinuation that a trained and successful accountant in the person of Honourable Makinde could in any situation get involved in anything that could lead to financial recklessness. That as a thorough businessman, Honorable Makinde couldn't have in anyway spent beyond his budget or go into borrowing as being peddled by mischievous enemies. Moreover its more expensive to be in Obudu Cattle Ranch than going abroad for such things"
Female armed robbery leader & her gang members arrested in Lagos Posted: 11 Sep 2013 10:58 AM PDT You know what they say, what a man can do, a woman can do better. Chioma Ezekwesiri (pictured above alone and with members of her gang) is the leader of a robbery gang that was arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, in Lagos last week. Chioma and her gang were arrested while attempting to rob a man staying a Bolatito Hotel, Kola Bus Stop, Ijaiye, Lagos. The robbers were caught after hotel staff called the police when the robbers stormed the hotel looking for their target. The police found two guns and 12 live ammunition in Chioma's car and promptly arrested her and her gang. She later told the police the guns were for an operation over a land matter. The 35 year old gang leader said she is a Law graduate from the University of Lagos, where she supposedly graduated in 1999 and called to bar in 2000. A claim that has been found to be untrue. Chioma is currently locked up at Kirikiri while awaiting trial... Other members of Chioma's gang include: Raymond Chukwuka, 24,Ignatius Okeredi, 27, Michael Madu, 52, Okechukwu Jerome, 28, and Amadi Igwe, 41.

Pastor Kumuyi Disowns ‘Prophetess’ Who Claimed To Have Gone To Heaven & Back Posted: 10 Sep 2013 12:49 PM PDT Pastor William Kumuyi, General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry has disowned the controversial videos of a 'prophetess' and others who claimed to have died, gone to heaven and came back to narrate their extra-terrestrial experience. In the controversial videos being sold all over Nigeria, two women and a boy claimed they died, went to heaven and came back to narrate what they said God showed them. One of such CDs is that of a Sierra Leonean woman, simply called Sister Linda Ngaujah. Linda said she died and was shown happenings in heaven and hell and that many of the members of a large church on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway are on their way to hell and that the founder of a leading church in Lagos should repent as he allegedly acquired his powers from the devil, saying that a Bishop of another large congregation and his members are not even recognised in heaven. She added that women who used rubber and wool to plait their hair will go to hell as it is a sin and that the only way for people to be prepared for heaven is to go back to the old Deeper Life Bible Church's method of dressing. The video CDs released by Linda is causing serious controversy in the church of God as some women in Deeper Life, who plait rubber hair have vowed never to do so again as they want to get to heaven. Some female worshippers have even shaved their hair in one Christian Assembly in Ikorodu, saying that they don't want to have anything to do with attachment as they want to get to heaven. Another person who claimed to have gone to heaven said she saw the late wife of Kumuyi, Biodun, in heaven and narrated her encounter there. Other CDs were released by Margaret Amure from Church of God Mission, who also claimed to have gone to heaven and another 10-year old boy from Edo, named Samuel. Reacting to this development on Sunday during the church service, Pastor Kumuyi warned members of his church not to have anything to do with such CDs as these are the last days where many people would come up with different things to deceive the church of God. Kumuyi urged members of the church not to waste their money on such CDs, saying that the church should not rely on purported CDs of people who claimed to have gone to heaven to come back to produce CDs to sell to people narrating their encounter. He referred to Linda's CD which said people need to dress like Deeper Life to get to heaven, saying that "if you dress like Deeper Life without salvation and sanctification, will you get to heaven? These are the last days." The man of God emphasized that dressing like Deeper Life would not take anybody to heaven but that righteousness and holiness of heart are the keys to getting to the kingdom of God and warned members to desist from lwatching such CDs. Kumuyi further said that one of the people who claimed to have gone to heaven said they saw Mummy Kumuyi in the kingdom of God, saying that he did not need such CD to know that his wife was in heaven and that the word of God has told us the criteria for getting to His kingdom. According to him, such people were merely deceiving the people, saying that when Apostle Paul was translated to heaven and came back, he did not produce CDs about what he saw in heaven and began to sell them. "When Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, Lazarus did not go about telling people that this was what he saw in heaven. We should rest on the word of God to tell us what we need to know about heaven and how to get there. How do you know that they have actually gone to heaven? These are the last days. Don't waste your money on buying these CDs," he stated.

Man pleads guilty to tricking pregnant girlfriend into taking abortion pill Posted: 10 Sep 2013 12:23 PM PDT -- Remee Lee was elated when she became pregnant, but those feelings quickly turned into a nightmare that won't let go of her. Her boyfriend wasn't happy about the pregnancy, but it was Lee's dream to have a child. Until her boyfriend, John Andrew Welden, took that dream away. This week, Welden, 28, pleaded guilty to killing their unborn baby. How? He tricked Lee into taking an abortion pill, causing her to miscarry. "Every day is a nightmare for me ever since this began," Lee told Chris Cuomo on New Day' Tuesday. "Even hearing the guilty (plea) yesterday, it's hard to believe it, it's hard to read it and know that this actually happened to me." Guilty plea can't take away pain Lee, 26, was in the Florida courtroom Monday, dabbing away tears as her former boyfriend accepted a plea deal that could send him to prison for at least 13 years. Welden was indicted under the rarely used federal Unborn Victims of Violence Act, a murder charge that carries a life sentence. Todd Foster, Welden's defense attorney, told reporters that the stakes of going to trial were too high. "The possibility of a mandatory life sentence, no discretion to the judge, obviously is a big factor," Foster said. "Obviously it's tragic all around from every angle, and I think that's recognized." Those who know Lee say she's still burdened by sadness. "Nothing is going to bring back what was taken from her," Lee's attorney Gil Sanchez said. She trusted him Lee has said she was madly in love with Welden when she suspected she was pregnant. They went together for a sonogram at Welden's father's Tampa-area clinic. The test showed she was six weeks pregnant. Despite her boyfriend's reluctance, Lee planned to have the baby. Days later, Welden told Lee that her blood tests had shown that she had an infection and needed to take amoxicillin. But instead of the antibiotic, Welden brought her Cytotec, a drug that causes contractions. Welden told her to take three pills a day. She trusted him. After she took only one pill, Lee was rushed to the hospital with abdominal pain and bleeding. She lost the baby. When doctors inspected the pills, it was discovered that they were not antibiotics, but abortion pills. "There's just no words for the horror I wake up with every day that this is my reality. There's no escaping it, there's no turning it off," Lee said. Welden said nothing as he left the courtroom Monday. Surrounded by security, he silently walked by a group of reporters, got into a black Hummer and was driven away. Welden is scheduled to be sentenced December 5.
"I still want to be a lawyer...it has always been my dream" - 9ice reveals!! Posted: 10 Sep 2013 12:19 PM PDT
From that lowest point of your life when you had nothing but undying passion to sing, obviously, passion to sing wouldn't have been enough to make you forge ahead. What would you say was the chief reason you knew you would make it big in music? That is not the case. The fact is that I never knew I would make it in music. Music is just one of the talents God gave me that I never gave a chance, but when I eventually did, it brought me to where I am today. I have been doing this for sometime and I thank God that people appreciate my song. It was not that I set out to become a singer, it was just a path God had prepared me for, which I never knew until I discovered myself. So, the chief reason for doing music aside the passion and the talent like you have rightly said is basically because of the fear of being a failure. My plan has always been to do everything possible to succeed in a legal way. Your career appears to be going like a moving train since then, could you tell us about your recent tour of Europe and what you intend to achieve with it? Thank you for the word 'moving train'. I sincerely like the good pace, provided it doesn't hit anything on the way. The saying is that slow but steady wins the race. Talking about the tour, it actually helped my career a great deal, whether in Europe, America and Africa, the reception over there was nice and I am actually going back in a matter days to continue the tour. I think the acceptability both home and abroad does the magic and it is the driving force that always inspires an artiste to do more. Quite a number of your colleagues in the industry had started like you, but they fizzled out in the midst of daunting challenges, you faced yours too, but you seem to have managed to remain on top of your game till now. What do you think you have done rightly over the years? It will surprise you to know that I look up to 2Face a lot in this generation. According to the Holy Bible, many were called but few were chosen. Some that fizzled out like you said is not their wish but somehow it happened. For me, I believe music is a call and it is spiritual. Singing, to me, goes beyond passion and talent. It is not my making that I haven't fizzled out, I give God the glory. I think it has to do with what you're destined to do. Who exactly would you attribute your success in the industry to? I owe who I am and what I have become in music to God Almighty and Idowu Ogunade (Id.Cabassa). God created the plan and Cabassa executed it. You have experienced the sweetness that comes with being a successful musician, how would you describe those early days when you had nothing and now that you have some of the good things of life? To God be the glory. At first, it was all about survival, but now, it is about revival and making sure one remains a pioneer; a leader and also to keep up the evergreen songs so as to remain a legend. What I noticed is that remaining there when you are there is more difficult than getting there. But with God on my side and the good people who have shown us love over the years, I believe the journey has just begun. Like I said, we are like a moving train. Nothing is stopping us. Would you trade your being famous for something else if you look at some of the bad side of fame that you have experienced over time? Yes, I will love to trade fame with some silent life that does not arrogate too much attention to one, but it has got nothing to do with any bad experience. No matter what you do or who you are, there's always a difficult time and life challenges that you can't run away from. But I will really love to trade because I wish to be a lawyer. That has always been my dream. Do you think life would have been different for you should you have been a lawyer? Honestly, life as a normal person is fine and more wonderful, free, fair and peaceful. But as a public figure, you enjoy more and you pay more in terms of the price you pay for being famous. If I come to this world again, I would prefer normal life. You were said to have pulled out of your Law programme at the Lagos State University to face music. That decision paid off, but you seem not to be happy about it now? I didn't pull out because of music; I left school because I was unable to pay my school fees. While I was on the street, I gave hundred percent of my life to music and it paid off eventually. When I was in school, I was just doing music for fun until I left school. At that point, I decided that I was going to face music passionately and from that point, things changed. Why did you choose Law that time? I chose law because of my background to fight for the less privilege, protect the interest of the masses and uphold the right of the individuals. Your decision to leave school wouldn't have gone down well with your parents, how did they react to it and what was constantly coming to your mind back then? It was not an easy decision to make. There were days that I had to live in the studio. Talking about my parents' reaction, I had to lie for a while, pretended as if all was well. Before my parents knew I wasn't in school, it was too late to complain because I was already on TVs, making money and rocking shows all around. Would you consider going back to school someday? I'm in school already, studying public safety and Common Law at Capella university. It is an online programme. I can't think of any other course except law. Sometime ago, you were said to have become wealthy that your personality couldn't handle it anymore, how true is this? (Laugh)... that sounds very funny. But if they say I am that wealthy, I never got myself a personal jet, get an office at V.I; I am not living in Ikoyi or get a house in Banana Island or own a street in Lekki Phase I. There was nothing like that, I'm sure it was just an exaggeration. With the array of stars in the industry today and endorsements galore every where, you still manage to stay relevant, what's the secret? The only way and the hard way that I know and I have always known is staying true to yourself, put God first and believe in what you do and how you do it. People believe that the younger generation is driving the older ones out of the business, do you see it like that? That's another funny question. Do you mean that? No matter how popular any new act can be, trust me, someone was there before you. Somebody had been more popular and greater than that before. If older ones are not there anymore, it is not because anyone is driving someone away from the industry. Music never stays the same forever. It changes face, style and format. As many students that are graduating from the University every year so also are many that are being admitted. That's music for you. A close friend of yours disclosed to me sometime ago that you were losing your voice and that you would need to work on it, what could have been responsible for that? It is not a new thing. It happens to most artistes, Usher, R Kelly and the like. The list is just endless. I would love this voice to crack more because it means I am working hard and making money. If it is getting clearer every day, that means no shows and no busy schedule. The wealth that you have accrued over the years, did it come as a surprise to you? All that I am today is a surprise to me. I'm not better than anyone else. I'm just special because God Almighty made it so. The kind of relationship that existed between you and ID Cabassa when you started was enviable, but later you decided to do your 'things' your way. At what point did you feel it was time to move on? Ogun omode kole sere fogun odun (twenty children can't be together for twenty years). We can't be together forever. I learnt all I could from Cabassa when I had the time and when it was time for me to stand as a force, I had to go. I didn't go because I just wanted to leave, I left because it was necessary for me to do so. Will it be wrong to say that you hit it big when you left Coded tunes and set up Alapomeji records? I hit it big when I was still with Cabassa. Coded tunes were a clique headed by Cabassa, consist of 9ice, Lord of Ajasa, 2phat, Alash, Jahbless, Reminisce, H Code, a studio own by Cabassa, but now a record label with all other things mentioned, now owned and run by Cabassa. And ever since I left, I have used all that I have learnt to get to where I am today. He was said to have invited you back on several occasions, but your mind was made up, you don't want to work with him again or what? I am still with him. It is unfortunate that people don't know the kind of relationship that exists between us and they find it difficult to comprehend. Lord of Ajasa left and formed Otipoju Records, no one raised an eyebrow. But I think people just make issue out of anything that I do. Don't forget before Alapomeji Records, I had co-founded Edge Records even before founding Alapomeji Records. Cabassa and I are brothers, inseparable no matter people say or believe. But it seems Cabassa still has your love at heart, apparently, he wishes your relationship could be as it was when you started, do you see that happening? We are still the same. Nothing has changed between Cabassa and I. We are still the same brothers. What role did you play in supporting ailing OJB when he was down because, reports had it that some of his friends and colleagues ditched him.... I knew nothing about that, I'm sure you do know who to direct those questions to as regards who ditched who. Also, I won't say what I did or what I didn't do out here. Everyone is glad that OJB is back on his feet. That's the most important thing right now. You were said to have parted ways with your manager, Dehinde over what some people believed was basis for you and Tony Payne's reunion, but that was not to be, would you share with us the true picture of things? Well, I have worked with Dehinde for many years and we had great time together. It was time to move on to the next level and so we did. Now, I have a new manager, DON T, new team (J17MGT) and we are doing great things together and I believe things will materialise.

"I once sold pure water on the streets" -Chuddy K Reveals...He also talked about his ideal woman!!!! Posted: 10 Sep 2013 12:07 PM PDT What has Chuddy K been up to recently? I've been working with both my management team in setting up Kent records and also making good music. It seems you relaxed a little after the release of 'gaga Crazy' and 'Brazilian hair'. Was it because they were doing well in the market? I would beg to differ because I was actually on various international tours promoting those songs. Having had many popular songs, which would you say really gave you prominence? I would say 'Slow Slow'. The song enjoyed huge acceptance across the length and breadth of the continent and for this I am eternally grateful to my many fans across Africa and the rest of the world. What was the inspiration behind the song? It's more like your typical boy loves girl and the feeling is not mutual and the boy is suffering and confused. I'm sure we've all experienced this (laughs). Now that you are one of the artistes that Nigerians look up to for good music, how do you intend to keep your fans satisfied? I intend to do this fully by continuing to meet their demand for good music, I've got massive tunes that will be dropping soon under Kent records. Critics thought you were only good at singing slow R n B songs until you came out with Gaga Crazy. Why did you decide to change genres? Good music is from the soul which I believe has no genre. I also decided to try something different, which was a huge success. 'Gaga Crazy' was really accepted across the continent and beyond. How did you come about the title of the song? It's what you want to do when you are really having a good time at the club after a long week on a Friday, you just want to let loose, unwind and go 'gaga'. It's crazy in here, 'gaga crazy'. A lot of people compare you and Wande Coal...What is your take on this? Not much, it's expected. After all, we were both in the same Acapella group called 'Salvation boiz' and a lot of people say we sound alike. What type of music does Chuddy K do? Good music What were your greatest musical influences growing up? Michael Jackson, R. Kelly, Usher. What challenges have you faced in your craft and how do you intend to overcome them and become one of the most sought after artistes in Nigeria? What I intend to do is to simply continue making and effectively promoting my music so that I can meet the demand of my fans and together with my team here at Kent records, all I can say is that my fans should get ready. What is your take on the recent endorsements of your colleagues in the industry? I love making good music and that's my major focus. Critics say these endorsements may discourage the upcoming artistes as the sudden wealth may make the endorsed artistes snub their yet-to-be endorsed artistes. Could this be true? I don't think this is true, as having an endorsement means that you are more talented or you make better music. This shouldn't discourage anyone because as long as you keep making your music, opportunities will continue to open up to you. Being a ladies' man, how have you been able to steer clear from scandals? Na God o, because man proposes and he disposes Is Chuddy K single? I am in a relationship What is your ideal kind of woman? A home maker who is confident in herself What's your normal day like? Chilling with friends, listening to good music and playing fifa 13 on ps3 Tell us something no one knows about you. Hmm, I once sold pure water on the streets of Lagos What would you have been if not an artiste? A footballer Tell us a bit about your early life and education? I grew up in a Lagos suburb called Ajegunle where I attended my primary education at Queens care nursery/primary school, I later moved out of Ajegunle to Agboju Amuwo near Festac Town, where I had my secondary education at Awori Ajeromi Grammar School and then I moved to Upper College, Aiyetoro-Ijaninkin where I wrote my WAEC examinations. My life as a youth was not a very pleasant one, which contributed to my moving around to get educated. My parents were divorced some few months after my birth and I was left to stay with my dad at that tender age. I even did some other odd jobs to see myself through school and life. Describe your early family life. I started singing at a tender age of 12 back then in Ajegunle where I grew up appreciating the likes of Daddy Showkey and Daddy Fresh, who started their careers around me as a kid in the ghetto called Iya Ojo, in Ajegunle. As music started paving good ways for them, I started having aspirations of becoming a star like them. I later became a teenage chorister in the church I was attending back then; I was upgraded to the lead vocalist in a short time due to my musical prowess. I attended musical contests and concerts with the church choir (Victory Christian Church) but later left Ajegunle for Agboju, where I met with a friend called Jerry who introduced me to some of his friends who had just formed a gospel group called the Salvation Boiz. Your most memorable moments in your musical career? Every day of my music journey has been memorable. Your most embarrassing moments? When I was punked in a mall in South Africa.
Don't Make The Stowaway Boy A Hero - NAAPE Posted: 10 Sep 2013 12:03 PM PDT National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers, NAAPE has frowned at the effort to make a hero out of the stowaway boy by publicly giving reward to a boy that at best fell far short of acceptable behaviour. Here is what their Public Relations Officer, Bunmi Gindeh said; "While NAAPE does not want to stand in the way of anyone's fortune, we consider that in this particular case, making such gesture public gives an erroneous impression which makes it a dis-service. We fear that such public gesture, even in the name of charity, will only encourage other kids, and even adults, to embark on similar misadventure."
Posted: 10 Sep 2013 11:54 AM PDT A widower in Brazil, Aparecido Castaldo, 74, has decided to end his solitutude and marry his pet goat, Carmelita. She doesn't speak and doesn't want money," says the father of eight children - four women and four men from four different marriages. Mr Castaldo, who has been in love with the pet for two years, wanted to be united with his goat Carmela in a church, by an evangelical minister. Unfortunately, none of the churches he contacted with his unusual request wanted to perform the ceremony. So Aparecido eventually contacted Toninho do Diabo (Tom the Devil), an old friend who just happens to be one of the most famous satanists in Brazil. The wedding is now scheduled to take place at midnight, on October 13, at the Devil's Church, in Sao Paolo. Only our church accepted this love between man and animal because we have no prejudice, Toninho said. The wedding will be followed by a big party on All Souls' Day the following day. Carmelita ate her first wedding dress but has been found another. Her husband to be , Mr Aparicedo said: "Whenever someone says I am doing something wrong I reply the goat does not speak, ask for money to go shopping and doesn't get pregnant - and she can't talk.

Islamic group wins: Miss World pageant moved out of Jakarta to Bali Posted: 10 Sep 2013 11:45 AM PDT Days after an Islamic group staged a protest against the organizers of the 2013 Miss World pageant, demanding that the pageant should not be held in Jakarta as it runs against their culture, the pageant organizers have been forced to move the final of the pageant to Bali - where they said today that it would be 'impossible' to stage the finale there, because of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, where world leaders and thousands of officials are expected to attend. The summit begins at the beginning of October while the pageant is scheduled to take place on September 28. "I think people can appreciate how complex it would be to move everything to Bali. Just getting the venue and all the accommodation is impossible with APEC here" Nana Putra, executive director of organizer, told AFP.The Miss World organizers have said they have no plans to cancel this year's event, vowing to petition Indonesian authorities to move the event back to Java. But also said they would use a back up venue in Indonesia if authorities don't change their mind.

Militant Leader Tompolo Lavishes Over N2Billion On Private Jet Posted: 10 Sep 2013 11:38 AM PDT For those who haven't heard, 43-year-old ex-militant leader, High Chief Government OweizideEkpumopolo (a.k.a. Tompolo) on Monday 26th August 2013 received his Bombardier SE60 LearJet. The Jet according to aviation sources cost a whopping sum of $13.3 million (N2.12 billion). "We have heard over and over how the Nigerian system rewards honest labour with hardship and award criminal endeavours with the juicy contracts and patronage which only feather the nest of cronies. "Fellow militants who didn't labour (kill) as much as Tompolo weren't rewarded as much. I pity men of the Nigerian military who daily sacrifice their lives for nothing. "Despite the billions being paid to Tompolo, Nigeria's maritime domain has been less secure. [Today] Crude oil theft has reached an all-time high, threatening Nigeria's income." The aim of this article is not to rubbish the person of Tompolo [what is there to rubbish anyway] but address, inter alia, the scenarios that continue to play out in favour of his ilk, institutions and systems that perpetually endeavour to make his likes overnight celebrities. The Man Tompolo Tompolo was born in 1970 into the family of Chief Thomas Osei Ekpumopolo and Mrs. Sologha Ekpumopolo of Okorenkoko in Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area of present Delta State. He attended Edah Primary School, Madagho, and Kunpa Primary School, Kunukunuma, before later proceeding to National Comprehensive College, Warri, where he completed the SSCE in 1993. After a brief stint as the managing director of his father's family business, Tompolo Nigeria Limited, his militancy career began in 1997 during the struggle to 'liberate' the Ijaws from the dominance of its neighbours — the Itsekiris. General Sani Abacha had then relocated Warri South Local Government headquarters from Ogbe-Ijoh to Itsekiri's Ogidiben and, thus, an Ijaw 'soldier' was born. After the struggle, he relocated to Oporoza due to threats to his life, and there he started the struggle against the oil majors and the federal government for what he perceived as injustice against 'their land'– usually the rhetoric for Niger Delta militants. True to his name, Government Ekpumopolo was an authority of some sort. Traditional rulers, local council men, lawmakers, governors defer to him. To show the power Tompolo wields, during the visit of then Vice President Goodluck Jonathan to his terrorist headquarters at the notorious Camp 5, he instructed all in the Vice President's entourage, security details and other officials to stay outside the camp, allowing only Jonathan in for 'consultation' (I wonder what they must have agreed in secret). He led several 'successful' guerrilla attacks against Shell, almost crippling its production capacity in the Niger Delta. The company had no choice but to start paying some sort of 'security fee' to the warlord. Tompolo started consulting in security matters for the oil companies, the federal government and the Joint Task Force (JTF) to maintain some level of peace. Things got out of hand after his men beheaded 11 military men comprising of one officer and 10 rank and file men of the Nigerian Army. That incident forced the chairman of the JTF in the Niger Delta, Brig. Gen. Sarkin Yaki Bello, to declare him wanted, dead or alive. His Entrance Into The Nigerian Billionaires Club When the late President Musa Yar'Adua took the oath of office in May 2007, he promised to bring an end to the Niger Delta insurgency, offering the militants state pardon for all their criminal atrocities. In June 2009 when the implementation of the amnesty programme started, thousands of youths surrendered their arms and ammunition, with a report stating that Tompolo along with 1,500 militants handed in a cache of weapons that included general purpose machine guns (GPMGs), grenades, rocket-propelled grenade ((RPG) launchers, explosives and a large number of assorted weapons. Unfortunately, President Yar'Adua who originated the idea died of some ailment and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, the then vice president, took the reins of power. In what seemed like an opportunity-comes-but-once-so-lets-seize-it-and-settle-the-boys-bigtime-kind-of-contract, the Jonathan administration through NIMASA, headed by Ziadeke Akpobolokemi (said to be Tompolo's candidate for the NIMASA job), awarded a contract worth $103.4million (N15billion) maritime surveillance contract to Tompolo's company – Global West Vessel Specialist Ltd (GWVSL). The contract stated that GWVSL will provide security for oil pipelines, repel pirates and oil thieves, guard the nation waterways and also (wait for this), COLLECT LEVIES ON BEHALF OF NIMASA. The agency said about N124billion is expected to be generated by GWVSL for the federal government. In a memo dated November 9, 2011, with reference number PRES/99/MT/61 and entitled 'Award of Contract For The Strategic Concessioning Partnership With NIMASA To Provide Platforms For Tracking Ships And Cargoes, Enforcing Regulatory Compliance And Surveillance Of The Entire Nigerian Maritime Domain', President Jonathan approved the contract and it was rubber-stamped by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in one of its weekly contract awarding bazaars on January 5, 2012. The contract will run for 10 years, though President Jonathan, through NIMASA, has promised not to renew the contract after the expiration of its present term. But to show how desperate Jonathan was in securing the contract for his friend and personal confidant – Tompolo, he wrote to the National Assembly, withdrawing an earlier similar proposal submitted by his predecessor which sought to create a coast guard comprising all the security agencies to man the country's maritime domain. But why shouldn't he, when NIMASA presently pays Tompolo's GWVSL N49m weekly for vessel hired by the agency? The Nigerian Debacle We have heard over and over how the Nigerian system rewards honest labour with hardship and award criminal endeavours with the juicy contracts and patronage which only feather the nest of cronies. Fellow militants who didn't labour (kill) as much as Tompolo weren't rewarded as much. I pity men of the Nigerian military who daily sacrifice their lives for nothing. I hope Abubakar Shekau will not be given the same 'heroic' welcome whenever he leads his comrades-at-arms to accept the amnesty proposals of the Jonathan administration. Nigerians must realize that voting for Jonathan come 2015 is a vote for more money in the hands of those who have wronged and robbed Nigerians of our God-given resources. Despite the huge amount being paid to Tompolo, Nigeria's maritime domain has been less secure. Crude oil theft has reached an all-time high, threatening Nigeria's income. Coordinating minister of the economy Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala last July lamented the alarming rate at which Nigeria's income from oil was being depleted due to oil theft and bunkering. Tompolo's militant colleague, Asari Dokubo, has threatened to destroy Nigeria and match his opponents bullet for bullet, bomb for bomb, and missile for missile if Jonathan is not re-elected in 2015, because only his stay in office will guarantee Tompolo's business which will in turn guarantee continued oil bunkering and theft in the Niger-Delta. This is the right time to revoke the Tompolo contract. Only a fool employs a man with a history of dubious character (though forgiven) into a position of trust; he will always stay true to who he is.
