| Man Caught Stealing Offering Inside Mountain of Fire Church Posted: 19 Nov 2013 09:42 AM PST  Magistrate Khadijat Mustapha convicted Ayeni for the offence without an option of fine, saying the sentence is meant to serve as a deterrent to those who might want to engage in similar acts. Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sergeat Simon Ibrahim, told the court that (Pastor) Ojo Oyeyemi of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Church, Utako, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on November 15. Ibrahim said the convict criminally trespassed into the church just after they had concluded church service and stole an offering bag containing N50,800. | Photo: Elderly Man Strips Naked To Evade Arrest In Lagos Posted: 19 Nov 2013 09:39 AM PST  There was a little bit of drama at Palmgrove Bus Stop, along Ikorodu road, yesterday when 5 commercial drivers picking up passengers by the road side got arrested by officials of LASTMA and some police men on duty. After asking the passengers to alight from the buses, some LASTMA officials took over the wheels and as they were about driving off to the station, one of the bus drivers, an elderly man, went into his bus and brought out a concoction with a fetid odour, faced the officials and police men and the on-looking crowd. The officials and police men who didn't know what his mission was all ran for cover. But one of the LASTMA officials came back and insisted he must be arrested. When the old man sensed that might not work for too long, he decided to strip himself naked. Just as he was doing that, the police and other LASTMA officials called on their colleague to leave him, because no one knew what his next action was.The man however evaded arrest, and other buses were taken to the station. He later got into his bus and drove off.  |

| 8 Feared Dead as Truck Crashes Into Stationary Vehicles In Oshodi, Lagos Posted: 19 Nov 2013 09:30 AM PST  At least eight people were feared dead on Tuesday in Lagos when a truck veered off its lane and crashed into stationary vehicles at Oshodi. Five vehicles were involved in the accident which occurred at the Oshodi `Isale' Bus Stop on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway. The lorry was coming from the Apapa end of the highway when the accident occurred. The stationary vehicles involved in the accident included three commercial buses and a jeep. A correspondent, who was at the scene shortly after the accident, reports that blood stained some portions of road while luggage of the victims scattered. Transport managers pulled off the affected vehicles off the road to prevent a gridlock. Mr Samuel Ogundayo, the Oshodi Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, told NAN that 19 people were involved in the accident. "A tipper had a break failure; 19 people were involved but eight died instantly. "They have been taken to the General Hospital Ikeja and the Health Centre, Oshodi,'' Ogundayo said. However, an official of the Lagos State Transport Management Authority, who pleaded anonymity, told NAN that five people died in the accident and five injured. He said that the bodies of the dead had been taken to the General Hospital, Ikeja, while the wounded were taken to the Trauma Centre Oshodi. (NAN)  |

| Deliverance: Herbalist Rapes, Impregnates, Defrauds Woman Of N2m Posted: 19 Nov 2013 09:19 AM PST A herbalist, Ifatade Elegbeleye has been arrested and charged before an Ojokoro Magistrates' Court, Lagos, western Nigeria for allegedly defrauding a woman seeking husband. He allegedly swindled her of N2m and raped her at his shrine. The 31-year old businesswoman, Temidayo Akinwale, who is now pregnant, suffered the fate when she contacted the herbalist to deliver her from strange spirits that prevented her from getting a husband. The incident happened at Elegbeyele's shrine located at Ayobo Road in Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area. The accused was arraigned on a six-count charge of fraud, stealing and obtaining sex under false pretences. Elegbeleye who is cooling his heels in prison custody, according to the police, lured his victim to a shrine and told her that he needed to perform some rituals to deliver her from spiritual husband that prevented her from getting a husband. The 65-year old victim's mother, Mrs Mary Akinwale, while testifying before the court, narrated how the accused lured her daughter to his shrine, raped and impregnated her. The distraught mother told the court that Elegbeleye prophesied to her daughter that she was possessed with spiritual husband that would prevent her from getting married and asked her to pay some amount of money for spiritual cleansing. She said that her daughter who was afraid of the prophesy, paid the money and was taking to a river in the midnight at Ipaja area, where she was bathed with spiritual soap, adding that after the bath, she still could not get a husband. She testified that the accussed invited her daughter again to his shrine and raped her, adding that she is now pregnant. In his response, Elegeleye told the court that he actually delivered her of a spiritual husband, adding that he did not collect the money she accused him of collecting. He said he has been doing spiritual deliverance for years and have liberated many people. When asked to comment on the allegations of rape and pregnancy, he declined to talk. The presiding Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Layinka granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. He was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending the fulfilment of the bail condition. The matter was adjourned till 21 December for continuation of trial. [Pm News]  |
