Posted: 10 Nov 2013 07:01 AM PST Charly Boy talks about religion is his latest article. Read below... My guy, things are falling apart and the Center can no longer hold. People just dey craze anyhow and demgo see anyhow. Jungle don mature, HA!!! I fit faint. When I was a little boy in the city of Peterkwa, called Port-Harcourt, I was taught NEVER to use God's name in vain. Nowadays, everybody just dey call God name anyhow dem like. When Yahoo yahoo boys dey pray for good business, demgo call Him name before they obtain. Armed robbers pray, before they go for an operation, dem go hala Him name. Some of our governors are using prayers to confuse their people as they plunder the land with impunity. Bone face Bragadoooo. Some of them these days claim they talk with God, they claim they are MEN of God, they also use God's name to obtain big time from their congregation. Several religious wars have been fought in God's name, politicians loot and run down the country in God's name, Kenyan terrorist attackers paused for prayers before they continued their killings, all they did was done in God's name, hideous criminals operate, relying on God's name, great crimes and atrocities are committed, all in God's name. Chinekee God, are you there? Throughout history, religion has been used as an excuse or driving force for some of the worst atrocities unimaginable. From prehistory to modern history, religion is for many people just an excuse to kill some people, obtain from some people, lie to some people, and cause all 'kinda' katakata, all in the name of God. This is not FAIR!Biko! I was watching CNN the other day and the news of the Bishop of Limburg, Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst popularly called The BLING Bishop, being ordered to Rome to answer to his choice of mounting an extravagant new residence complex which blew out to at least 31 million euros ($42 million). Not too long the German church had suffered fallout from a child sex scandal. Kai! Madness! I simply don't understand this, using church funds to enrich ones' self or satisfy ones' selfish desire. $42 million, what for? Did he forget that people contributed this money, that this money was hard earned money worked for by members of the congregation? My major concern is why he wants to destroy the mission and vision of Pope Francis, the most popular Pope since the history of the Vatican. The true Man of God the world has come to love. Which one we go talk, His reforms, His Humility, His Simplicity, His Spirituality, His exemplary life according to the teachings of Jesus Christ, why this German Bishop want to pour sand san into the pope's "garri". I don't know. These days you will hear most Pentecostal pastors talk about how God spoke to them, how they were called, how they have amazing powers, bla bla bla, how they received the anointing. How they can cast and bind, I tire for all these wash wash pastors. Some of these men of very questionable background and character are all over the place now. Telling all who cares to listen how they drink Tea with the Almighty God. Some families have already been put asunder because the pastor somehow is 'remote controlling' wives looking for the fruit of the womb, by testing the merchandise personally. kai! They are the real Abrakadabra in God's name. Dem no send. I don't know if I'm the only one confused, but I don't see the difference between pastors and native doctors any more. If you are still sane, maybe you can help me differentiate; the craze for private jets; pastors/politicians, wearing of expensive suits; pastors/conmen wearing million dollar wrist watches; pastors/conmen, building expensive schools; pastors/politicians, casting, binding and miracle explosion; pastors/native doctors, embezzling public funds; the list is endless. These days we don't know the difference between san sand and garri. Odikwa risky. Are these pastors truly men of God or business men capitalizing on people's frustrations? What is their original calling sef, to compete in worldly riches or to win souls like it is said? How can you be living extravagantly when some church members can't even afford a meal? That is the height of wickedness. Enough of the deceit, enough of turning the bible upside down to suit people's ears while they suffer in poverty. We need spirituality not religiosity. Even with all these churches at every junction and every bending corner, in every brothel and hotel, morality is at an all-time low. The church should be a place for spiritual nourishment and not a kalokalo venture, or for prosperity preaching. Pastors should concentrate more on how we should all be our brother's keepers, rather than praying for us to be rich like them. God does not operate like a Babalawo, neither is he a Nigerian. I am wondering if me too won't open my own church (runs away), but it will be different because I will never use Gods name in vain. All these our so called Men of God should come out and hustle like real men and stop using psychology to deceive people and take their money. Haba!!! I guess that is their hustle. Where is the humility that Christ talked about? If anyone is not leading by the examples of Jesus just like the pope, then his 'Man-of-god-izm' is very questionable. I thought they said the meaning of Christianity was to be Christ- like? I'm just wondering. Maybe I'm lost. Abeg, I rest my case joor. Man of God my ebony ass, who dash dem? I am even a better BOY of GOD than those MEN OF GOD. Gbam! |

EU Court Says Homos*xuality Can Be Grounds For Asylum Posted: 10 Nov 2013 06:58 AM PST A lot of Nigerians may soon migrate to Europe as there are indications the EU may sanction granting of asylum to African homos*xuals who can't openly declare their s*xuality due to laws against same-s*x relationships in the continent, with many saying, even straight people could go as far as changing their s*xuality or 'faking' it in order to be assured of asylum in Europe. The European Union's highest court has ruled that the fear of imprisonment for homos*xuality in African countries is grounds for asylum in the EU. The ruling follows a request for advice from The Netherlands about three gay refugees seeking asylum from Uganda, Sierra Leone and Senegal. According to the European Court of Justice (ECJ) the existence of laws that could lead to the imprisonment of homos*xuals, "may constitute an act of persecution per se" if they are routinely enforced. The Luxembourg-based court stated that it was unreasonable to expect gay people to hide their s*xuality in their home countries in order to avoid persecution. Concealing their se*uality would amount to renouncing a "characteristic fundamental to a person's identity," the court said. In the case of the three men seeking asylum in The Netherlands the application was initially denied on the grounds that the men could "exercise restraint" to avoid persecution. The Dutch Council of State, an advisory body to the government, subsequently took the case to the ECJ for a ruling. Despite the ruling it is up to the authorities in sovereign countries to decide "whether, in the applicant's country of origin, the term of imprisonment…is applied in practice". The ECJ says laws specifically targeting homosexuals do make them a separate group, however, a ban on homosexual acts alone is not grounds to grant asylum. International law says that a social group with a 'well-founded' fear of persecution can claim asylum status if the persecution amounts to a severe violation of human rights. Homos*xual acts are considered unlawful in most African countries and Amnesty International has said homos*xuality is "increasingly criminalized across Africa," with 36 nations there having laws against same-s*x conduct. Nations that consider homosexual acts illegal include Nigeria, Kenya, Botswana and Uganda. In Nigeria, a convicted homosexual may spend up to 14 years in prison. Amnesty has also said that homophobic attacks have reached dangerous levels in sub-Saharan Africa and that this relates to the "toxic message" that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people are criminals. A number of the continent's leaders have said homosexuality is un-African. In 2010 the Supreme Court in the UK ruled that two gay men from Iran and Cameroon have the right to asylum in the UK, after they were initially told by the Home Office that they could safely return home if they were "discreet" about their s*xual orientation. Séx Inside Luxurious Bus: Ladies Dirty Secret In Night Journey Posted: 10 Nov 2013 06:56 AM PST Night travel may be fraught with a lot of dangers in Nigeria as highways are not in good condition and robbers use the bad state of the roads as an opportunity to ambush inter-state commercial vehicles. But in spite of these inherent dangers, there seems to be no reduction in the number of people who choose to go on night journeys. What is the motive of some who travel at night in luxurious buses? Find out below... Investigation by Punch's Ademola Olonilua showed that attraction of some of the passengers to the night travel was more bizarre as much as it was almost unbelievable. When Punch visited some parks to investigate, it found out passengers preferred night travels for different reasons. At Jibowu, an area of Lagos where luxury buses load passengers to the Eastern part of the country, Chidioke Ekezie, a motorboy attached to a bus of one of the popular transport operators in Lagos, gave an insight into life on night buses, which he explained could be very vibrant and "interesting" as a result of the duration of the journeys. "There has never been a time that those taking night journey reduced. The thing is that a lot of people just like travelling at that time simply because it is traffic-free," Ekezie said. Asked to elaborate on the "interesting" part of the journey, which he had earlier mentioned, the motorboy said, "A lot of people make new friends and many young people who board the buses as strangers become couples during the journey." When asked whether there is any sexual activity during these journeys, Ekezie smiled mischievously and said: "It is a known fact that it happens. Some people are just quite stupid. Most couples wait till we get to our designated bus stops to have sex. "For instance, on a journey from Onitsha to Lagos, the bus sometimes leaves at about 10pm and later stops at Benin so that the passengers can stretch their legs, buy refreshments and ease themselves. This takes a long time. "I have seen a lot of passengers get down and go around a corner to have sex. It happens. I have also seen some passengers have sex in the bus while others are off the bus. When this happens, it is a problem for the man and woman involved. We don't condone such acts in the bus. "We could decide to drop the involved passengers there and leave because it is very silly for people to have sex in the bus."A 23yrs old student, who preferred to give just his first name, Chukwueloka, was booked on one of the luxury buses to his home state of Imo, when our correspondent visited the park. He said he always took night buses anytime he went home. "Night buses are interesting. A lot of things happen there," he declared, when our correspondent had a chat with him on why he favoured night travel that much. A lot of things like what? He went into a narration. "There was a time I went to Yenagoa (Bayelsa State capital) in 2005. I boarded the bus at Mazamaza and got a seat beside a fair lady who was also going to Bayelsa. The journey was at least seven hours and we took off around 6pm. "I had been chatting with the lady since we left Lagos. About four hours into the journey, she yawned and said she was sleepy. She rested her head on my shoulder and there was no way she could be comfortable if my arm did not go around her shoulders. "My arm brushed her breast mistakenly and she did nothing. It turned out that by her body language as the journey went on, she wanted something. I had heard about such things happening on buses but I did not immediately understand her intention. "She later made it clear when her hand went to my zippers." Chukwueloka laughed as he narrated this unusual escapade. He said he would never forget it for the rest of his life. "I just wanted to experience it. She sat on my lap and other passengers were asleep in the bus. It was also dark," he said. Having a sexual encounter with a complete stranger may be a no-no for many people but Chukwueloka told Punch that he used protection. (How true? was he going on a journey with a condom?) At Oshodi, another lady narrated a funny story that her aunty told her. She said, "My aunty boarded a luxury bus from Jibowu. The last bus stop was at Aba and a man came out of the bus complaining that his wallet, his wrist watch and the handbag containing his laptop had been stolen. My aunty said when the young man explained what happened, every other passenger of the bus made jest of him. "What happened was that when all other passengers in the bus were asleep, he made sexual advances at the lady he sat with. They started fondling each other even though they were strangers when they boarded the bus. The lady later offered that the man should suck her breast. The lady must have rubbed a sleeping portion on her breast because the man slept off afterwards. "The lady stole all his belongings and disembarked from the bus before it got to the last bus stop." Public statement by Human Rights Commmission on Clara Chime case Posted: 10 Nov 2013 05:06 AM PST The chairman, Governing Council, National Human Rights Commission of Nigeria, Chidi Odinkalu has released a public statement on Enugu First Clama Chime's case. Statement below..
As a practice, cases and complaints received by the Commission are processed in accordance with the National Human Rights Commission Act, (as amended) and with the Standing Orders and Rules of Procedure of the Commission. Having carefully reviewed the work so far undertaken by the staff of the Commission, I find no bases in them for the claims or speculation, widely circulated in the media, that the Commission has pronounced on the state of health, physical or mental, of the complainant or indeed of any other party in this case. The Commission takes seriously its responsibility to fully respect the confidentiality of parties before it and to reach its decisions only on the bases of law and evidence. I should clarify that the team that the Commission sent to Enugu did not include any medical personnel. It had neither a mandate nor the expertise to pronounce on such matters and has clearly not done so. This is evident on the face of the Statement by the Executive Secretary. Allegations also that the Commission may have been compromised in the conduct of the case are both factually inaccurate and manifestly unfounded. While we remain grateful for the growing interest from the public in the work of the National Human Rights Commission of Nigeria and support for this work, I wish to please appeal to the public to respect the rights and dignity of the parties to pending cases and respect the integrity of the processes of the Commission, guaranteed by its Governing Council. TEXT OF PRESS STATEMENT ON THE INTERIM REPORT ON THE INVESTIGATION OF ALLEGED INCARCERATION OF HER EXCELLENCY MRS CHIME The National Human Rights Commission received a complaint from the wife of the Governor of Enugu State Her Excellency Mrs. Clara Chime, in which she alleged to have been incarcerated and subjected to horrific and intolerable conditions that curtailed her fundamental freedoms and threatened the enjoyment of her human rights. The Commission wrote to the Governor and demanded for access to the complainant in order to obtain more details and to carry out a thorough investigation of the issues raised in the complaint. Yesterday, I led a team of investigators to the Government House Enugu and we were granted unhindered access to both Mrs. Chime and her apartment in the Government House. The investigating team held a five hour meeting with Governor Chime, Mrs. Clara Chime, Dr. Jide Chime (the Governor's sibling) Dr. Aham Agumoh (who has been treating Mrs. Chime) and Tony Igwe, the complainant's elder brother during which the complainant had an opportunity to state her case and also respond to the issues raised by her husband. Dr. Uzegu A – a London based consultant psychiatrist and forensic examiner who is the doctor the complainant prefers, also joined the meeting through teleconference. The team further held private sessions with Her Excellency Mrs. Clara Chime in her apartment, her husband, His Excellency Sullivan Chime, Mrs. Patience Igwe (Complainant's mother), and Edwin Igwe her brother. All the parties spoke freely and expressed their positions clearly. We have confirmed that for the last two weeks Mrs. Chime had been confined to her apartment on medical advice for purposes of medical maintenance and security. But she confirmed having possession and control of keys to her apartment, which the team also inspected. We further confirmed that access to her son is not denied after his school and lesson hours. Both parties have agreed that Mrs. Clara has medical challenges but have disagreement over how to handle her medical condition. The complainant told the Commission that she has lost confidence in the Physician presently handling her condition and no longer wants him to treat her. She further requested to have medical opinion of other medical doctors acceptable to her. Both parties have agreed that the Commission assemble a team of independent medical experts to review her medical condition and advise on further steps to be taken in respect of her treatment. We want to thank His Excellency Governor Chime, and Her Excellency, Mrs. Clara Chime his wife and all the persons that we interacted with during our visit for their cooperation with the Commissions team of investigators. We also want to assure all the parties and Nigerians that the Commission will continue with the investigation of this matter and take appropriate decision that will be in the interest of all the parties and the Commission will not hesitate to invoke its further mandate to mediate between the parties with a view to reconciling them. Finally we wish to reassure all Nigerians that this Commission is determined to be the instrument that will represent their dreams and aspirations. We wish to make it very clear that in the realm of human rights protection, there is no immunity against impunity. Prof. Bem Angwe Executive Secretary 8th November, 2013 |
