What You Should Learn from Mandela; Facebook Friends Blast Pres Jonathan Posted: 28 Jun 2013 11:06 AM PDT Nigerians on social media say President Goodluck Jonathan has some lessons to learn from ailing former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela. His friends on Facebook who lauded him for taking time out of his schedule on Thursday to wish Mandela a quick recovery on the social network, said the President should also replicate the giant strides made by Madiba in the southern African nation. The message on the President's Facebook page stated: "On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, I would want to let President Jacob Zuma, the government and the people of South Africa know that we are with you in prayers at this trying times. "We stand firmly with you, our South African brothers and sisters, and together wish our leader, the unequalled humanist, the great son of Africa, former President Nelson Mandela, Gods' speed on the journey to recovery." Jonathan's Facebook fans believe Mandela never earned these accolades through wishful thoughts and petty politics, but through selfless and purposeful leadership. They told the President that it was not too late for him to etch his name in gold on the minds of Nigerians and become a globally recognised leader like Mandela. One of his fans, Prince Kunle Ayo-Alara, said Jonathan should make it a priority to study the way and manner, Mandela was able to impact positively on the lives of his people. ''Thanks for your message, GEJ. You, too, should please leave a good legacy. Even if Mandela should die today, he will continue to be celebrated. Our gains of having a Mandela in this world are to learn why and how he positively impacted his people's lives, not just passing through the Government House,'' Ayo-Alara noted. Commenting on why the President should ensure good governance, one of his friends, Comrade Abdulkareem Gunu says, "Yes! I admire your (Jonathan's) courage of accepting Mandela's exemplarity, and I am hoping you'll also be remembered for your good deeds. "But, Mr. president, shine your eyes, don't let the bad eggs surrounding you mislead and guide you wrongly, as you know, the sky is your limit and your name is already among the list of the international stakeholders. May God give you the wisdom for attitudinal change." On his own part, Oyedele Farinde wondered if any Nigerian leader will ever receive such good wishes and magnanimity from Nigerians, like Mandela is receiving from his countrymen and citizens of various countries. Farinde states, "But will Nigerians ever pray for any of their leaders like the South Africans are praying for Mandela? Even Mr. President was not truthful enough to tell Nigerians the state of health of his wife when she was indisposed, needless to talk of Nigerians praying for her. It is only a good leader that can enjoy such gesture from the citizens. Mr. President, this is a lesson for you. And will Nigerians remember you for anything after leaving in 2015?" As if taking a swipe at Jonathan for organising frequent Presidential dinners like the one held in Abuja on Wednesday, a friend, Fatai Omisanya, wrote, "Mandela fought and served his people in South Africa throughout his youthful and ageing years. He had no time for elaborate dinners when his people were starving, humiliated, and killed as is the case in present Nigeria. Baba Mandela, the peace of the Lord will abide with you." Many of his friends also directed the attention of the President to the fact that the South African government was not expending state resources to treat the ailing leader in a foreign hospital. According to them, the decision of the Jacob Zuma-led government not to do so was because of the fully functioning state of health care facilities in the country. Olakunle Olatunde says, "I want Mr. president to note that Mr. Mandela is wholly being treated in South Africa by doctors in South Africa. No flying ambulances! I am sure this would not have happened in Nigeria where you are the president. How many governors and first ladies have been treated abroad? I am sure you have lost count!" Another ally of the President on the social service, Ab Awolola, lamented, "If he had been a Nigerian leader, he would be receiving treatment in Germany, US, Britain, Italy or any of the so-called western nations now. How I wish you could all borrow a leaf from this great son and real patriot of Africa, including you, President Ebele Jonathan.'' Prince Chidoruo summed up all the comments when he wrote, "You (Jonathan) should emulate him (Mandela) and give us selfless and purposeful leadership." By Temitayo Famutimi
Govt officials withdraw support for OJB due to misinformation on funds raised Posted: 28 Jun 2013 10:59 AM PDT There have been speculations that some celebrities have been to see OJB and made some donations. While it's true that the likes of Don Jazzy, P-Square, Ruggedman, Mercy Johnson, Iyanya, Julius Aguw have contributed, the other names on the list that circulated today are 100% false. For instance, D'banj didn't give N7m, Wizkid didn't give N3m and 2face didn't give N1.5m. Head of committee for the #SaveOJB fund, singer Nomoreloss, says the hype and misinformation is affecting efforts to raise the complete money OJB needs for his treatment. He was photographed outside his former prison cell while speaking during a press conference on Robben Island, off the coast of Cape Town in South Africa. From mid 1960s to 1991, the Island served as maximum security prison and was used in housing political offenders. Nelson Mandela was imprisoned at Robben Island Prison in the cell shown below. And in 1990, he was freed from prison. Until 1996, the Island was used as a medium security prison for criminal offenders but the last of the political prisoners on Robben Island were released in 1991.

While watching the video, some question came to my mind, "Who trained Nigerian force to be this brutal? Is this how to investigate issues? Is there no possibility that she might be innocent? Why can't Nigerian Force carry out an investigation without violence?

Evil Spirits Possess 20 Students, Classes Suspended Posted: 27 Jun 2013 06:42 PM PDT Evil spirits possess 20 students School administrators have suspended classes in an elementary school in Mandaluyong City on Thursday after "evil spirits" possessed 20 students, Manila, Philippines. Evil Spirits Possess 20 Students, Classes Suspended According to the report, around 20 students aged between 12 and 16 started acting strangely—screaming, crying, fainting and convulsing—prompting claims that they were possessed by evil spirits. A Grade 8 teacher at the public school, Julie Esparagoza, said the incident started shortly after 9 a.m. and initially involved two girls from her section. Esparagoza said that she and her students were in a classroom when one of the girls suddenly stood up and began acting strangely while the other lost consciousness. The teacher added that the girl who stood up had to be restrained at one point since it looked like she was going to attack her unconscious classmate. The woman immediately brought the two girls to separate classrooms where their behavior gradually returned to normal. Esparagoza, however, said she later observed the same behavior among her other students who had stepped out of the classroom for their break. According to her, she saw five girls and a boy "lying on the floor and shaking while others were crying frantically." A male student who refused to be named said he saw one girl "convulsing" on the ground near the stage in the middle of the playground while another was "in tears." "I helped bring them to the principal's office," he said. They were not the only students who were affected. Esparagoza said the same behavior was observed in other Grade 8 students from five different sections. She added that she tried looking for a priest to help the affected students but the staff of two churches she called up told her that the priest was not available. A pastor from the nearby Born-Again Jesus First Christian Ministries said he rushed to the school when he learned of the incident from a church member. "The students were shouting: 'I don't want to! I don't want to!', 'Princess!'" Pastor Boyet Sion said. But no one knew who Princess was. He said he prayed for the students and they calmed down a few minutes later. According to Editha Septimo, the officer in charge of the high school section, some of the affected students were taken to the principal's office while the others were brought to a classroom where a doctor attended to them. Septimo said she had no choice but to suspend classes in the Grade 8 level at 10 a.m. after parents started rushing to the school to get their children out of fear that they would also be "possessed." "The parents were very frantic, some were hurling insults at us," she added. However, as soon as the unaffected Grade 8 students were allowed to go home, at least four Grade 7 students began exhibiting the same behavior, Esparagoza said. This prompted Nerissa Lozaria, assistant schools division superintendent, to suspend classes in the entire school. Several of the "possessed" students were allowed to go home after they calmed down while the others were taken to a nearby church where they were blessed, Esparagoza said. A worker at the church who refused to be named said around 10 students were brought there for exorcism but they later left, some of them to attend Mass at Quiapo Church. Those who witnessed the incident, meanwhile, were divided about what happened. Septimo was skeptical and called the incident a case of "mass hysteria" caused by students who just wanted attention. She cited one "possessed" student whose behavior immediately returned to normal after she was told she would be injected with something to calm her down. Septimo said that this was the first such incident at the school. Sion, for his part, said the incident was clearly a case of "evil spirits possessing the students." According to him, he heard reports that some of the affected pupils had earlier conducted a seance (spirit of the glass) at a cemetery near the school. "They might have invited the spirits to possess them," he said. His theory was supported by a church worker who said that two children were taken to the church hours before the incident at the school. The complaint of those who brought the two children in: They seemed to be possessed by evil spirits. The church worker said that several balete trees were cut down at the school only recently to give way to the construction of a covered court. This may have angered some spirits, the worker added. After calming down, four of the students told the teachers that they saw images of a mother and a child. They also saw an image of a man in black clothes. Due to the confusion school officials also decided to suspend classes for the whole day.Evil Spirits Possess 29 Students |
