D'banj Ports To Etisalat; Gets A Mouth Watering N250m Deal

Posted: 27 Jun 2013 06:00 AM PDT

Another indication that D'banj, the Kokomaster, is the king of Nigeria's new generation musicians has again emerged as the Oliver Twist hit maker just hit a mouth watering deal with leading telecommunications firm, Etisalat as a "super" brand ambassador.
I hear a cheque of N250m was issued to him by Etisalat, a company that really wants to re-establish itself as a leader in the industry, after losing its brand face, Saka, to MTN under controversial circumstances.

The deal was struck recently and D'banj has already shot some commercials for Etisalat being prepared for release. D'banj continues to maintain his leadership role in the industry and his latest show, the DKM concert which took place in Lagos on Sunday was a huge success.

Congrats to the Kokomaster, Eja Nla!

I Didn’t Flush My Baby In The Toilet

Posted: 27 Jun 2013 05:57 AM PDT

A 400-level female student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Oyinlola Rotimi, alleged to have attempted flushing her newborn baby down the toilet at Moremi Hall of residence in the university, last week, has refuted the report, saying it was untrue.
The nursing mother, who has been certified alongside her baby to be medically fit by doctors at the institution's health centre told National Mirror that her case turned out in that manner because of her inexperience as a mother.

She said the delivery of the baby was her first experience and she did not know that she was being pressed for the baby, and had only gone to the toilet to defecate.
"I was running stool overnight and because of that, I visited the toilet frequently. On that fateful morning, I had gone to the toilet to defecate just like I had been doing previously, but surprisingly it was a baby that came out into the closet. I didn't feel any pain to suggest I was to delivered of a baby.
So, I was confused and I didn't know what to do next. I was also bleeding. It was one of my friends and roommates who knew I was running stool, Satope who, came to look for me in the toilet, having stayed there unnecessary long. She too was surprised at the turn of event and raised the alarm which attracted an elderly woman, who is a school cleaner, for assistance.
As a matter of fact, I was scared by the development because I was not expected to deliver now, but next month, according to scan. "So, I did not attempt to kill my baby, neither did I try to abandon him nor run away as people were made to believe.
Moremi Hostel's toilet is a public one where students residing in the hall come almost at the same time either to fetch water, take their bath or do any other sanitary things.
So, students were everywhere while I was in the toilet. Just like those around were scared about what they saw and the cleaner was brought into the matter also because she is an elderly and experienced mother. She was the person who brought out the baby from the toilet closet and brought two of us to the university's health centre for medical attention."
Now, the nursing mother has been discharged alongside her baby from the school's health centre. And She told National Mirror that she would ensure she gives adequate care to the newborn. Believing that it is only God who knows the future of the infant and has left everything in His hands, Oyinlola said the news about the baby had given her undue popularity.
"With what happened, especially about the news revolving round the delivery of the baby that went round the town like a wildfire, I can now call myself a celebrity. I have never in my life been interviewed by any pressman.
The news about the incident has gone round the world. It is even the latest news in and outside OAU campus. So, I am happy and grateful to the almighty God, who keeps me and my baby alive and I pray that He will make my baby do well in life and greater than me," she concluded. Oyinlola, from Osun State is studying Agricultural Extension and Rural Development.
She is currently doing farm work as part of the requirement to obtain a degree in the five year course of study from the university. However, efforts by National Mirror to speak with the father of the newborn, Oyewole Mosope, a 400- level Mechanical Engineering student of the university was to no avail as he was writing exam.

New Baby Paternity Saga: Laide Bakare May Go To Jail

Posted: 27 Jun 2013 05:47 AM PDT

The last may not have been heard in the ongoing war between Nollywood popular actress, Laide Bakare and her estranged husband, Olumide Okunfulire. This is because US-based businessman has vowed to slug it out with the delectable actress over the paternity of the child she claimed to have bore for her new hubby, Tunde Oriowo.
The Ondo State-born dude has
reportedly told his lawyers to institute a lawsuit against Laide. Olumighty, as Okunfulire is fondly called by friends, allegedly said that Laide will have to answer if truly she got court judgement, which dissolved their marriage before she got married to Oriowo, her new husband.

Olumide maintained that Laide's new baby boy belongs to him, adding that she became pregnant in his house. He also claimed that the actress registered at the US hospital, where she eventually gave birth, with his name and Green Card.

With the way things are going, Laide might be charged for bigamy and if found guilty by the court, she risks jail term.
Industry sources told First Weekly that Okunfulire may drop charges against Laide if the actress realises her mistakes and beg for forgiveness.

"I can tell you that Olumide (Okunfulire) is only trying to shake Laide. He just wants to make life unbearable for her, Laide is aware of this, which is why she has not responded to the 'noise' Olumide has been making since the news of her child birth hit town," a source informed us.

Meanwhile, those in the camp of Laide have disclosed that Tunde is the real father of the baby. They claimed that Laide and Tunde had been an item for sometime before they decided to solemnise the relationship with a secret wedding and that she was actually pregnant for him before then. Pictures were sent to us to back up the claim. The actress is still in the USA with her baby and new husband as at press time.

I Planned To Marry, Then Have Kids But Something Happened

Posted: 27 Jun 2013 02:03 AM PDT

Music icon, Tuface Idibia has expressed how difficult it is for him to stay in touch with all his children due to his very active work schedule and for the "painful" fact that they have different mothers.

In his latest most revealing interview, Tuface said:
"It's not easy. Sometimes, it is painful, especially when you don't get to see them as often as you would wish to because of work. Today I'm here, tomorrow, I'm there, sometimes for weeks, months; plus the fact that they have different moms… I didn't plan for it this way, but it happened and I have accepted it, no shaking. My plan was to have a wife and then have children. Something happened along the line, but I didn't run away from it."

You once told me that you would like to go back to school to study law, do you still have plans to do that?Tuface: Yes, I want to do that. I can't say when exactly, maybe in the next two or three years? But I'm definitely going to do that.

You've won virtually all the major continental and international awards for African artistes, but you haven't won a Grammy yet. Does that bother you?
Tuface: It doesn't bother me, but I definitely think about it. I still have some things to do. I'm not where I'm supposed to be or where I dream of being yet. So I still have lot of work to do before I cap that, even if I cap that, I would still keep on working (laughing).

When you first started out, did you honestly think you will get to this level, did you ever dream of this kind of success?Tuface: I will say yes. Everyone wishes to take his game to the highest level, but what you don't know is how fast or how long it would take to get there, but you definitely have that dream of getting there. So I had a dream of becoming a successful musician/ artiste. I hoped, worked and prayed for it and I'm getting there.

There has been a lot of controversy about who wrote your hit song, the evergreen 'African Queen'. Did blackface actually write the lyrics, as some claim?Tuface: The song was written by Innocent Idibia and Austin Amedu; Innocent Idibia is Tuface, Austin Amedu is Blackface.

So, who should get credit for the success of African Queen and did you know it was going to be monster hit at the time?Tuface: The credit goes to… Tuface, Blackface; OJB, for production; Kennis Music, for marketing; the credit goes to all them and also the fans, especially my Nigerian fans.

Your wife, Anne, featured prominently in the video. When you were writing the song, was she at the back of your mind?(General laughter)Tuface: There was no particular person in mind when the song was written, it was written with the general idea to show respect and love for the African woman.

Why did it take you so long to finally settle down with Anne?
Tuface: I don't really have an answer to that question, because I don't know. I can't explain why I don't have an answer to that, but somehow, by the grace of God, we are still together.

You don't see yourself as a player?
Tuface: If I were a player, they wouldn't have caught me like that (General laughter)

How challenging is the role of being a father to your kids?
Tuface: It's not easy. Sometimes, it is painful, especially when you don't get to see them as often as you would wish to because of work. Today I'm here, tomorrow, I'm there, sometimes for weeks, months; plus the fact that they have different moms… I didn't plan for it this way, but it happened and I have accepted it,no shaking. My plan was to have a wife and then have children. Something happened along the line, butI didn't run away from it.

But you seem happy with your career, especially as you discovered your talent early in life. Would you encourage your kids to follow in your footsteps career wise?Tuface: Yes, definitely I will. One already asked me that. If I see that they exhibit any talent, I will definitely encourage them in that direction. I'm not the guy who will tell his son or daughter that you must study this or that. If I see that they actually have genuine talent for it, I will definitely encourage them. If it is music, I've been there and still there, it would even be easy for me to be their best adviser.

Do you think education has a role to play in anybody's success?
Tuface: Success is relative, but having an education is also very important and I would encourage anybody to get an education. Although you find that in some cases, some people didn't even have access to education but they are very successful people today. All the same, education is important; it's a plus and a very good advantage.

How come the much anticipated Plantashun Boyz reunion never worked out as expected? Do you foresee another try at a reunion album or concert in the nearest future?Tuface: We have decided to do something but as it is right now, we haven't really talked about it or planned for any particular time because we are still on individual projects. But it's definitely in our minds.

I know you like football. What clubs do you support?
Tuface: Over the years, I have changed my support for many clubs. At different times, it was Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid. So I won't come out and say I'm a fan of any club. I don't know, I guess I'm a fan of good football (General laughter).

You have met famous people globally, which one stands out most and why?
Tuface: O boy! I will just go for Wyclef. The guy is just too much. He has the kind of spirit I like, simple, friendly, intelligent, talented, focused, playful, down to earth, serious. He's just my kind of person.

Which African musician would you say has had a great influence on your kind of music?
Tuface: Definitely, Fela is a big influence. Bongos Ikwue, Oliver De Coque, Hugh Masekela from South Africa, there's plenty of them, the list is long.

At what point did you realize that your music career had finally reached that breakthrough point?
Tuface: I think it was when I won the MTV Europe Music Awards. When I got that award, it was like okay, there's no going down anymore. I have to keep on working, keep on moving.

Despite being a superstar, you must have had some most embarrassing moments?
Tuface: Most embarrassing moments? The funny thing is, I can't remember right now (General laughter). But I don't like to put myself in any embarrassing situation.

You've mentioned in past interviews, how the name Tuface came about. The name also sounds like you have a multiple personality, a man of different parts. Was that the impression you hoped to achieve when you chose it as a stage name?Tuface: No. I chose that as a stage name, not because of any multiple personality but because of the fact that people in public will see me on TV, read about me in the papers, hear about me on the radio and it would create an impression for them, until they get to know the real me. The TV, radio, and papers are just one side of the whole story. But when you get to know the real me, every other thing now looks like film trick. So, Tuface is an artiste – the public figure, and Tuface, the actual me.

You're still a humble person, despite your success. Is fame sometimes a burden for you?
Tuface: Yes, it is. It takes away your privacy and freedom to do some kind of simple, basic things. Like I can't go to Iya Christopher to sit down and eat amala, the way I dey do before (General laughter)

How much is Tuface worth today?
Tuface: I never gather, but I dey try.
Abroad it's easy to be to tell how much a musician is worth, but in Nigeria, we don't like giving out figures.
Tuface: We don't want armed robbers to come visit us anywhere (General laughter).

Some people say that despite your achievements in the music industry, they don't see you as a role model because of the many 'baby mamas' dramas, what's your reaction to this?Tuface: If they say I'm not a role model, so be it. Let them not follow my footsteps. Let's leave it like that.

But do you see yourself as a role model?
Tuface: No, I'm not a role model. I'm just a guy that's living his life. I'm not forcing anybody to do anything, so you if you feel you want to follow my footsteps, it's your choice. But I'm not going to apologize for the choices I have made. I'm not going to apologize for accepting my responsibility, saying yes, it happened when it happened and I'm not going to run away from it. I didn't tell anybody I was a role model in the first place, so, if anyone says I'm not a role model, it's their opinion. Let them live their own clean life. Let me live my own 'nonsense' life.

Do you have any regrets?
Tuface: No regrets.

At your recent traditional wedding, you reportedly got car gifts (SUVs) from the governor of Akwa Ibom state…Tuface: Well, as per the gift we got, wedding gift… Yes, we got a jeep.

Because the report in the media was that the governor gave you guys two SUVs?
Tuface: Yes, sorry, one.

Back to your lovely wife, what are the qualities that made you choose her, and finally say 'this is the one for me'?Tuface: Wow. I have known her for a long time and for me she has a gentle heart, a good heart and that was the major quality that attracted me to her.

When you look back at your early days to today, what are some of the things that you are most grateful for?
Tuface: I think I am most grateful to my parents for the way they brought me up and the things they taught me when i was growing up, how to respect people, how to live and let live. Those things have built my character today.

How many women have you sh___ed? (General laughter)
Tuface: Oh boy o! I did not keep a record, so I don't actually know. If to say I know I for don dey count dey come (General laughter).

Outside music and movies you are going to get involved in, what are the other things that interest you and why?Tuface: The funny thing is, everything, but I'll just say real estate. Somehow you can never go wrong with real estate, man.

UNILAG Student Tricked & Raped By 2 Boys Shares Her Story

Posted: 27 Jun 2013 01:51 AM PDT

She was kidnapped and raped in turns by two friends, one of them close to her family, but she could not tell anyone because the guys took her nude photos and she was afraid of the stigma. The guys posted the photos on the internet and somehow her relations abroad saw them.

Olokunbolablessing.blogspot.Com gathered that it was her relations outside the country that contacted her mother and expose the rape of this UNILAG undergraduate. Below is what they did to the lady as stated by her:

"Babajide came to our house to treat our dog. In the process, he requested for my phone number and I reluctantly gave him. He started calling me and told me he would like to go out with me.

"But I told him I already had a boyfriend whom I loved. Yet, he kept calling me, saying he was not interested in just going out with me but wanted to marry me. Aside that, he kept monitoring my movements and at a point, I deleted his contact on my phone.

"I was returning home for a weekend in April, a car stopped by my side at Idumota bus-stop. Jide was sitting beside a driver who was unknown to me.

"On sighting him, I walked past. But the next thing he did was to hold me by the hand, dragged me into the car and drove to his house.

"When he got home, he started beating me and tore my clothes, asking what I wanted that he could not give me. He instructed me to unlock my phone and when he discovered that I used my boyfriend's name as password, he resumed the beating.

"At a point, he gave me his phone to speak with some of his friends who told me I was in for trouble, for turning down a member of their unnamed cult, threatening that they would kill me for treating him shabbily.

"Thereafter, he raped me and when he was done, his friend took his turn despite my plea. When he saw I was bleeding, he stopped and started begging me. At that point, he brought out his phone and started taking my nude pictures. I made attempt to cover my face but he hit me on the head with a bottle and continued taking the shots.

How I escaped
"I begged him to allow me call my mother to give him some money for my release but he refused. I also appealed to him to delete my pictures when he started begging me.

"I stayed in that room all night till the next day when he went out to get me some drugs. Immediately he stepped out, I tried the door and discovered it was not locked from outside. I quickly changed into one of my dirty clothes in my bag and escaped.

"But I could not tell anyone at home. When my elder brother asked what the problem was on seeing the blood stained clothes, I told him I was involved in an accident and when my mother insisted on knowing what the problem was, I told her I fought with a course mate. She insisted on going to school with me on seeing the magnitude of the injury but I prevented her.

"Barely had I settled down than Babjide called, threatening to kill me if I disclosed what happened to anyone. As if that was not enough, his friends also called and threatened me as well."

The alleged rapist, Babajide Bashorun, who claimed she was his girlfriend, has been charged to court.

‘Boko Haram leader is from Niger Republic’

Posted: 27 Jun 2013 01:48 AM PDT

The Head of the Terrorist sect Boko Haram Abubakar Shekau hails from Niger Republic according to the Senate joint committee that investigated the Baga town Deaths.
This news shatters the widely believed notion that he was born in Shekau village in Yobe state
Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima himself told visiting senators that the man was actually from the neighbouring Republic of Niger.
The senators were also informed that although the sect has some foreigners, 80% of the sect members where from the Kanuri tribe saying that the leader is a Kanuri from Niger Republic.
After Mohammed Yussuf's death Shekau became the leader of the sect bringing death and anguish to thousand's of Nigerians
He has not been seen in public eye since 2009, He has shown himself through youtube videos aimed at threatning the Jonathan led Nigerian Government and claiming responsibility of attacks by the group
The Senate on April 23 mandated its committees on Defense and Army, Police Affairs, and National Security and Intelligence to investigate the Baga violence in which local leaders accused soldiers of killing 185 people and destroying more than 2,000 homes.
Military authorities had denied conducting indiscriminate killings, saying only 37 people died in a gun battle between soldiers from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) and Boko Haram fighters. In its report, the Senate committee disputed the Baga death toll given by both sides but failed to provide a specific figure
"The death toll of 185 was exaggerated but there may be more than 37 deaths. This is possible as there is no documentary evidence from either the natives or the military to ascertain figure quoted," the report said. The report also tried to exonerate the military, saying the incident was caused by Boko Haram who pulled out an army officer from a bus and killed him on March 29, and also killed another soldier on April 16
In its recommendations, the 28-member Senate panel urged troops on internal security operations to adhere to the provisions of the Geneva Convention, Code of Conduct and Rules of Engagement in order to minimise casualties. The committee called on President Goodluck Jonathan to direct the armed forces to carry out urgent recruitment of soldiers and officers as insurgency has overstretched the military.

Nelson Mandela's condition is quickly deteriorating. Earlier in the week, Mandela was listed in critical condition over a recurring lung infection, and has reportedly been placed on life support.
Five "highly-placed " sources "close to the family" told The Citizen newspaper of the anti-Apartheid leader's status, which has yet to be updated publicly. "He is on a ventilation life support and his kidney function is very low.

He is critical, but has a entire team of doctors, from a cardiac specialist, pulmonary specialist, kidney specialist and a main consultant looking after him," a source said.
Two of the five people claimed to have visited the 94-year-old in the Pretoria hospital where's he's been admitted. In addition to the previous ailments, Mandela is said to be suffering from kidney failure and undergoing renal dialysis for three hours at a time, every other day.
Family members remain at Mandela's bedside and have allegdly been given the option to remove him from life support.
Zindzi Mandela, the former Souther African president's daughter, said her father "opened his eyes," and "gave a smile," upon hearing the President Obama would be visiting the country. Award Winning Director Kunle Afolayan Fights Brother Aremu For Being A Gigolo

Posted: 27 Jun 2013 01:34 AM PDT

kunle afolayan 1

ShareReport revealed that Award winning film maker, Kunle Afolayan and his younger brother, Aremu , are at loggerhead.
Snippets have it that the blood brothers don't see eye to eye again as they are involved in a personality clash.
Sources attribute this development to Aremu's controversial lifestyles.

Kunle is said not be comfortable with Aremu's lifestyle in and out of public eye.
Findings revealed that Aremu's penchant for mature women is one of the reasons the highly revered film maker is angry at him.
Another major reason pointed out by gist merchants is that Aremu failed to complete successfully his first degree all in the name to attain stardom.
"It's more messy and dirty than you think", one insider tells us. "They aren't on talking terms, it's that serious. I doubt they want to see eye to eye anymore, at least for now".
The source further disclosed that," Kunle believes that Aremu's lifestyle is dragging the family name into disrepute because he lacks contentment and want to be comfortable no matter whose ox is gored" The source squealed.
The insider alleged that Aremu loves dating older women and dupes them under the pretence of marriage.
The diverse opinion between the brothers on the issue erupted in a war of words recently.
And this adamant still upholds the tension between them.
aremu afolayan
Reacting to the report, Aremu said;
"(Laughter) Yes. The rumour was right. But we have made up.
The issue was based on love.
He was angry with me because of my lifestyle. He felt I wasn't serious. It's normal for every aspiring person, who deserves the top to do some things. And he was not too happy about that.
I am the Black sheep of the family not because I smoke or indulge in crime but because he felt I wasn't serious and that I wasn't focused.

But I love my family. He said I didn't go to school and I said yes, but thank God the story has changed now. Yes, I didn't go to school but it won't stop me from getting to the top.

Definitely, I can't be a successful armed robber but a successful producer and actor.
So, yes, we quarreled but it was a fight for success.
People still believe I am a Gigolo but I am not because a Gigolo can't be broke.
Some people do not understand what Gigolo means. I beg for everything but I don't steal.
When I beg and I get the money, I don't waste it on frivolous things but meaningful projects.
My relationship with mature women is normal. It's my taste and what I want.
A Gigolo lives primarily on women but I don't because I have a thriving career.
A Gigolo will hide his women but I flaunt mine, so what's Gigolo in that?
Kunle Afolayan got wind of the stories and he was mad with me but we have sorted things out". Aremu divulged.
However, insider insisted on the fact that the blood brothers are still walking on egg shell around each other over the issue.
It would be recalled that weeks back, Aremu acquires Bentley Continental. He also got a Mercedes Benz .

My Husband Wants A DNA? He Must Be Mad ––Laide Bakare

Posted: 27 Jun 2013 01:25 AM PDT

Actress Laide Bakare, who has been enmeshed in a paternity mess with two men, has finally reacted to the claims by her estranged husband, Olumide Okunfulire, that she should submit her new baby for a DNA test to ascertain the true father of the new child.

Olumide insisted that he and his estranged wife, Laide Bakare, had sex several times in the last 9 months and wondered why she wants to give his baby to a man, popular known as ATM.

Reacting to her husband's claims, Laide Bakare said:
He must be "mad and oozing from chronic drunkenness" to dare ask her to come out for a DNA test in order to prove the father of her new baby.

In a chat with City People she said, "Ordinarily, I would not believe all the stories of him saying those rubbish in the media. Maybe he was being pushed to say those things by those who know nothing about how we lived together or, maybe, they just want to put him in a big trouble."

Laide, who failed to confirm if she was having sex with both men, simply said "I'm sure he has run mad".
